1 23rd June 2017 Weekly Digest THIS WEEK S TOP STORIES Leavers Day Celebrations This was the first of many for me. Please may I thank all of you who have already sent in such heartfelt messages about how important the school has been in contributing to the journey your children have made. The pride you felt on this day, is shared by the entire team at school. It goes without saying that tutors, teachers and educational support staff have played a significant role in this, but the one thing that makes this school what it is, is that no one person is more important than another. Our wonderful catering and cleaning team work tirelessly to keep us tidy and well-fed; the site team keep our environment safe and I m sure you ll agree, the grounds always look stunning; the therapists work with groups and individuals to build confidence, self-esteem and improve educational outcomes, and our admin team both front of house and beyond keep the rest of us buoyed with their knowledge, support and all-round smiles. We are a team. Your children are part of that team and for those leaving and even those returning for Sixth form, this marks a new chapter of their lives. There were many tears on Wednesday but I know there are joys to come, and now our Year 11 leavers become part of that larger team; one that I hope will keep us informed of their inevitable successes. I would like to thank everybody who supported this day, but more importantly everybody who has worked with our leavers through thick and thin. You are their inspiration, though perhaps it s taken them until now to only begin to start realising this. Let s be fair, how many of us got to the end of school desperately ready to leave until it happened? School should help equip us for the next stage, whatever that may be and I can only hope that our leavers feel that this has been the case. So keep us posted and for those of you able to join me in raising a glass (not quite yet for me still at school!), please do so for our fabulous Year 11s: to infinity and beyond! Cheers!

2 Year 11 Dinner Dance at the White Hart The departing Year 11 students may just have started a new tradition at Northease holding a dinner dance to celebrate together and mark the end of their time at the school. Parent, Tracy White organised the event at The White Hart in Lewes. Most of Year 11 attended with their proud parents and some staff. All who were there thoroughly enjoyed a fabulous evening of singing, dancing, food and banter. Dave Donnelly declared that seeing Patrick surrounded by his friends and leading the singing along to Queen was the highlight of his whole career! The students looked so grown up in their finery that it was hard not to keep photographing them they complained about the paparazzi, but they loved it really, especially Conor! After the food, there were speeches from the adults, but then the surprise came when Hugh stood up after Conor sat down; he just wanted to say how much Northease has meant to him, how it has changed him and how much he will miss everyone. It was impossible not to be moved. It really was a privilege to be part of the students celebration dinner dance on Saturday evening.

3 Football Festival Fun! On Thursday, eight members of the girls Northease Football Team set off to take part in a fun filled football festival. This was not a football tournament as we would usually attend, but a celebration event that enabled the girls to take part in a number of alternative football based activities such as football freestyling, refereeing and goal-keeper development. Alongside these activities, there were also some fantastic interactive games such as the speed strike and the reaction board. Bel scored a speedy 36mph on her kick into the goal whilst Zoe and Kerry scored an impressive top score of 18 on the reaction board. The girls also got the chance to have their hair braided and some body art applied to their faces and hands. To finish the event, the girls took part in a mini tournament where they beat Angmering with an impressive 3-1 victory but lost to Saxon Mount with a 4-2 defeat; the girls put this down to being very hungry and in need of their lunch! Although the weather was not as glorious as it had been; we had to take shelter from the thunder and lighting, a great time was had by all. Well done to Olivia, Zoe, Kerry, Morgan R, Sophie, Bel, Chloe L and Gaby AC for being such fantastic representatives of the school. Physical Education Department This week students have enjoyed making full use of the swimming pool to cool off from the very hot weather. Students have been practicing their swimming in preparation for sports day next week, as well as their throwing and running for the athletics event. This week Year 9 also got to experience a football taster session with the Russell Martin Academy and both younger and older students also got to come down to the field at lunch time and join in the fun. For those students that missed the taster session they will be back again during activity week. Fingers crossed the sun will shine for sports day next week and don t forget to practice your running, throwing and swimming over the weekend! Activity Week Reminder All students who will be on school site must return their Activity Week Booklet to the office by Monday 26 th June, along with payment for any additional activities. It is essential that activity choices are returned otherwise students risk not getting their first choice. Booklets were handed out last Friday and a digital copy has also been ed home.

4 Dear Parents/Carers Just a reminder that our Sports Day/Summer Fair is next Friday. Thank you to those of you who have already donated items to our tombola/hampers we really appreciate your support. We still welcome items to help us make the raffle even bigger and better, so please send in items to reception in Stone Hall up until Monday 26th June. Please continue to sell your raffle tickets, we will have lots of hampers and gifts for you to win, including vouchers for clothing, trampolining at Urban Jump & Fun Abounds, Deliciously Gorgeous Chocolates, horse riding, wine tasting, Tai chi and bowling. Please return your raffle ticket stubs, money and any unused tickets by Wednesday 28th June. Tickets will also be available on the day to increase your odds of winning!! We look forward to seeing you next Friday morning for tea/coffee and danishes after drop off, a great sporting day with lots of fun and socialising over lunch. Thank you again, Northease PTA

5 Beauty and the Beast This is the official Beauty and the Beast poster designed by Emma in Year 7. Emma s was picked out of all of the fantastic designs created by junior students. I think that Emma s design stood out because it encompasses the main symbols from the story of Beauty and the Beast with the rose representing the divide between the two principle characters. Well done Emma! Performance Update The guest list for the Northease Manor School production of Beauty and the Beast is now open! A 5 donation per person will grant you entry to the performance, a show programme and refreshments. The night s entertainment will include a themed raffle and a performing arts awards ceremony. Raffle tickets are currently on sale and the draw will take place during the show s interval. All of the evening s proceeds will go towards funding the performing arts and future performances at the school. The students will also be taking part in an in-house performance on Friday 7 th July which is closed to friends and families.
