Another busy month has seen us embracing leisurely pursuits and past times despite the cooler weather. The winter chill has not dampened our spirits to relish the opportunity to get out and about. Our regular bus outings have seen us dine in style with outings to Burke s Hotel Yarrawonga and the Bundalong Tavern. We are still keeping our eyes on the birds as part of our bird watching trips. With outings to Yarrawonga foreshore, where it was a case of first in best served as we competed with the seagulls for a bite to eat. Homemade pumpkin soup, scones jam and cream. No wonder we had a fight on our hands. We also kept an eye on the birds with a recent trip and picnic in the park in Tallangatta. Grapevine Newsletter Page 1 of 10

2 We have had plenty of fun kicking up our heels, dancing and warming our hearts and souls with recent entertainment provided by our good friend and regular entertainer Kaylene Katzer from Corowa. Kaylene took us on a stroll down memory lane with a variety of classic songs from the 50 s, 60 s, and 70 s. There was more toe tapping and clapping at our regular Morning Melodies session at the Corowa RSL and many a tune was played during a good old fashion sing a long at Pickers Cafe here in Rutherglen. Fr Brian Carey and resident Joan Smith lead us in song to the delight of residents and visitors. The old piano took pride of place and was recently decorated by the friends of Glenview and community members and donated to use around various community outlets for all to enjoy. Popular Australian author Jenn J McLeod spoke to some of our residents recently during a Meet the Author gathering organised by Art s Rutherglen here at our local library. Jenn spoke about her inspiration for her stories, House of all seasons, Summering season, Season of shadow and light and the other side of the season. On the days where we have been lucky enough to see the sunshine residents have strolled outdoors. Back indoors we have been keeping fit with gentle seated exercise, seated carpet bowls and a new Tai Chi program which residents have Grapevine Newsletter Page 2 of 10

3 embraced with overwhelming support. Gentle seated Tai Chi with instructors Val Chenoweth and Sharon Duke from Chiltern have been guiding residents weekly on Tuesday mornings in this beautiful, tranquil and peaceful form of gentle movement. We have regularly stretched our minds with games and puzzles. Many remain hopeful of taking out the honour of seeing their name on the Glenview Footy Tipping Champion Shield. As well as the bragging rights that comes with it. Leading the competition are Cheryl Lister, June Steventon and Fred Cooper. Of course opportunities for residents cannot be realised without our continued support from our wonderful families, volunteers, and staff working together to enhance quality of life for our residents. 4 Reminders Due to fire and safety precautions any person who is a visitor to Glenview Residential Aged care must sign the Visitor s Register upon arrival and departure. Please also write the proximity tag no. into the book. Quiet time 1.30pm to 2.30pm All food donations (includes any food items brought in for a resident) must be registered in the Food Safety Register of Donated Foods at reception (read below information) Your thoughts and suggestions are values and we would greatly appreciate any customer feedback whether it is a compliment, suggestion or any issue that you may have. Visiting and Outings We encourage family and friends to visit residents anytime. Quiet time is between 1.30pm and 2.30pm daily. To help us know who is the facility should there be an emergency, please complete the Visitors Register located at reception when you arrive and when you leave. Grapevine Newsletter Page 4 of 10

5 Access to Glenview during business hours Monday to Friday 8.30am-5pm is by the use of a Proximity Key Tag located in a basket beside the Visitor s Register. Please record the Proximity Key Tag number in the register. To enter and exit: WAVE TAG in front of the Proximity Reader (black pad) Please ensure the door is closed behind you. If doors stay open, use the door release button located on the dividing wall. Return tag to basket when signing out. Outside business hours: ring call bell outside entrance to Indigo North Health. Food Safety Program Food is handled and prepared, purchased and stored according to the Food Safety program. Residents, family or friends may bring in food, if the resident prefers. However, foods of high risk such as, poultry, fish, dairy products, meat, eggs, and rice brought in by the resident or family /friends must be consumed at the time of being brought to the facility. Staff must not store these food items or reheat them. Foods must be stored and transported to the facility in an appropriate temperature controlled container e.g. esky). Food of low risk such as, biscuits, unfilled cakes, fruit are acceptable to be stored and served. Any food donated is kept and stored in the dinette refrigerator or cupboards, and not brought into the kitchen. A Register of Food Donated /Brought to the Facility is maintained and located next to the sign on folder in the reception area. Chiltern Op Shop DONATIONS WANTED!!! Do you have an overflowing wardrobe or unwanted goods?? Make a donation of good quality, clean and reusable goods to INH s Op Shop, located on the corner of Conness & Main St, Chiltern.
