Thank you to those who attended the relatives meeting this is always a good opportunity to find out how we could improve and hearing the things you think we are doing well at. We hope you enjoy this addition of our latest newsletter.

2 2 Introduction After a very busy Christmas and New Year, things have settled down nicely and we are embracing LATEST NEWS - Hungerford Care Home has entered the lip sync battle competition with other brighterkind homes! Our team of boys lead by Kanika one of our Activities Coordinators have done amazingly well and we wish them luck for the results! See more on page 15

6 6 recreation & activity At brighterkind we believe in living life to the full. That s why we do our upmost to ensure that our residents have access to a varied programme of activities to deliver the Magic Moments that will help them love every day. Our Magic Moments programme also aims to encourage well-being by concentrating in equal measure on the mind, through mental agility; the body, through fitness and mobility; and the soul, through entertainment and personal interests, continued learning and emotional engagement. In the pink Our Activities coordinators Kanika and Frances are the people who helps make the Magic happen here at Hungerford Care Home! They are there to provide a comprehensive activity programme that will be loved by our residents and their families. Our Activities team can always be spotted because of their pink uniforms and the fact that they are always having fun! You can see all the exciting activities that we are having daily by looking at our pink activity boards throughout the home.

7 7 Wishing Wells Another Victory for Corky We were delighted to take former Chelsea FC star to Stamford Bridge on 28 th January to watch the football match. He cheered his old team on to a 3-0 win against Newcastle. Girls just want to have fun- Christine experienced a great Girls night in organized by the activities team. She enjoyed drinking her favorite cocktails and Gin n Tonic with some chocolates, and listening to her favorite 60s and 70s music. It was a great night. Champagne Party for Patricia Pat enjoyed her champagne party along with her favorite Indian snacks like samosas and onion bhajis. She danced along to Frank Sinatra music and other residents joined as well. Lord of the Dance Michael Flatley Margaret enjoyed watching and dancing along to the signed DVD sent by Lord of the dance himself. Margaret said, It brought back lots of memories of Ireland.

9 9 Here we are in our new Art Club looking at some Living Paintings and listening to the lovely description that comes with it. Margaret especially enjoyed the Thermoform picture. Our Residents participated in Garden Bird watching. They enjoyed spotting the birds. It was a lovely, gentle afternoon of just watching the busy birds. The quiet, calming nature of bird watching can help lower anxiety, while the colorful sights and distinctive sounds of our feathered friends provide plenty of sensory stimulation. Bird watching can also be a valuable reminiscence activity, with the appearance of certain species and the sounds of birdsong evoking memories and helping residents recall their love of nature.

10 10 Burns Night Celebrations Residents and families enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment for a Burns night celebration by Paul Livey playing Scottish music with a Ukulele. It was a marvelous afternoon and everyone had a great time. Here s Audrey having a go at the Ukulele!!

11 11 Love is in the air! On Valentine s Day, we invited couples to have lunch together and feel the love. Team members were dressed in red and the Finches dining room was decorated with love heart confetti, Be my Valentine banner and various other decorations. The couples enjoyed a three course meal served by the Recreation and Leisure Coordinators and listening to love songs. We also had a Love show performed by Matt Bond who sang beautiful love songs by Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, Jim Reeves and many more! Everyone loved the show and said how good he was.

13 13 Once Upon a Time Event For our Once upon a time themed event on 22 nd February, we invited year 1 students from Lambourn Primary School to watch the Punch and Judy puppet show performed by Benjamin Hasker. The children and residents enjoyed magic tricks and juggling by him. He also got the children involved and the residents were delighted to see the young ones having fun. After the show the children and teachers from Lambourn School joined the residents for lunch and presented the residents with drawings. The children were pleased to meet our nurse Andrea and wanted to have a picture with her. The children enjoyed talking to the residents and listening to their stories. It was a day full of fun and laughter.

To place this text box anywhere on the page, just drag it.] We have been very lucky to have been chosen by Oomph our activity training providers to trial their new mini bus trips. The group from Finches and Robins used this opportunity to visit St Peters coffee shop in Marlborough. All enjoyed a lovely coffee and cake whilst admiring the stain glass windows. Martins Mini Bus Trip Our residents enjoyed their Mini bus trip to the Hungerford Garden Centre on 26 th February. Even the cold weather did not stop our residents from going out and having a great time looking around the shop. It was lovely and warm in the garden center and they all enjoyed cups of tea/latte/cappuccino with lovely cakes, toasted teas cakes and crumpets in Costa coffee shop. Joyce bought a present for her daughter and Greta did some shopping with her daughter Sue.

15 15 Lip Sync Battle!! We took part in a lip sync competition with other brighterkind homes. Vali, Mihai and Adrian agreed to be a part of the video and Kanika choreographed a dance for them on the popular song Single ladies by Beyonce. We had a great time recording the video. Hopefully we will win the competition. The boys or should we say girls worked very hard for it. Goodbye Leah We said goodbye to Leah who came from France on a 4 week placement program. We would like to thank her for everything she did during her time here. We will all miss her.

16 16 Pimp my Zimmer Audrey and Phillip have been entered into a Pimp my Zimmer competition. We think they look great. Take a look and see what you think. For our resident Audrey we decorated her Zimmer frame as a Mini Cooper. Audrey used to own a Mini 1000 in a Harvest Gold color. She always talks about her Mini and says how much she misses it. She used to love driving her Mini around and owned it for 34 years. When we discussed with her that we will decorate her Zimmer to look like a Mini she was over the moon. Our resident Phillip McKnight used to play as a professional footballer (winghalf) for Chelsea FC team in He was famously known as Corky by his fellow team members. We recently took him to Stamford Bridge as a part of his Wishing Well experience to see a football match and he was delighted to be there. So this is the reason we decorated his Zimmer with things from Chelsea. Philip helped us decorate the Zimmer and was very happy to see what it looked it.

17 17 WANTED ITEMS Please donate some items for our Easter raffle. Help needed on 23 rd March to clear the Orchard.
