Jack and the Beanstalk 7. We re rich! Hi there! I m Sarah Jane and welcome back to Jack and the Beanstalk our story about a boy called Jack who climbs up a magic beanstalk to seek his fortune. We re going to be learning our final song today - it's called, 'We're rich!' It's a really lively, happy song, so listen to me singing the first verse. Music: Song 7, verse 1 and chorus Took a bag of silver coins, Gave his mum the silver coins, The giant didn't know. In this first verse, you sing the tune twice the notes are the same both times, but the words change. See if you can hear the difference in the words in these two phrases. Listen while I sing them to you... And...
There was one word which changed. It was the word 'up' which became 'down' the second time I sang it. Now, let's sing all of verse one! This song is all about how Jack and his mother s worries are over. They can now live happily ever after. So sing with a happy smile on your face and with lots of energy! Music: Song 7, verse 1 Ready, and... Took a bag of silver coins, Gave his mum the silver coins, The giant didn't know. Well done! Let's go on now to sing the chorus. Listen me singing it first. 2
Our troubles are all gone. Let s sing a happy song. All our worries are over, There's nothing more to fear. Sing and dance and shout 'Hooray!' Let's be full of cheer. This chorus has a fun, jumpy note pattern. Listen how the words: Jump from low to high like this... Low, high...low, high... Sing 'We're rich,' with me now. Ready, and... Now, hold one hand in front of you and lift it up when you sing the word - rich! - to show how the note gets higher. So ready, one hand in front of you? Ready, and... We're rich! And again! We're rich! That's it! Let s do that once more. So ready one hand out in front of you. Ready and... We re rich! We re rich. Well done. We ll sing all of the chorus now. So, sitting up straight and ready to sing with lots of energy! Ready, and... 3
Music: Song 7, chorus Our troubles are all gone. Let s sing a happy song. All our worries are over, There's nothing more to fear. Sing and dance and shout 'Hooray!' Let's be full of cheer. Fantastic! Now let's learn verse two. Here, Jack climbs up the beanstalk again and this time he returns with the little magic hen. This verse has the same tune as the first verse, but some of the words are a little different. Listen to me singing it and see if you can hear the changes. Ready? Music: Song 7, verse 2 Took a little magic hen, Gave his mum the magic hen, The giant didn't know. 4
I wonder if you could hear the words that were different to verse one? They were: Took a little magic hen. And... Gave his mum the magic hen. Let's sing the whole of verse two together. Ready? And... Music: Song 7, verse 2 Took a little magic hen, Gave his mum the magic hen, The giant didn't know. Time to sing again now and learn the final verse of our song. It has the same tune as verses one and two, but then something happens to make it quite different! Listen to verse three and see if you can hear where the music changes. Music: Song 7, verse 3 5
Took a lovely golden harp, Wow! This verse becomes very different from the others, with the words: The giant woke up... Listen again to the second half of the verse. Music: Song 7, verse 3 6
There's a lot of chopping in this song! And I'm doing something quite different with my voice here - perhaps you know what that is I'm speaking, not singing! So let's speak this part of verse three in time together, from 'The giant woke up.' Music: Song 7, verse 3 Ready and... That was great! Now, once more and this time, make a great big chopping movement with your arms after you say each 'Chop!' as though you're Jack, cutting down the beanstalk. Do it in time with the beat of the music. So, from 'The giant woke up.' MUSIC: Song 7, verse 3 Ready and... 7
Fantastic! Let's sing all of verse three now and then go on to sing the final chorus. Ready? And.. Music: Song 7, verse 3 and chorus Took a lovely golden harp, Our troubles are all gone. Let s sing a happy song. 8
All our worries are over, There's nothing more to fear. Sing and dance and shout 'Hooray!' Let's be full of cheer. That was great! And now you ve learned all of the final song! Imagine there s a huge beanstalk in front of you. Look up isn t it huge! In a moment, we're going to chop it down. So everyone stand up! Ready to join in with me? Music: Song 7 Ready and... Keep going... Good And stop! Perhaps later you'd like to make up your own chopping piece, using percussion instruments, and ending in a big crash when the beanstalk falls down! It's time for me to go, so happy singing and happy chopping! Goodbye! 9
