Ithaca-Weston Wrestlers Take on the Bi-State Classic Submi ed by: Coach McCauley; Photos by: Lisa Clary I W finished with 61.5 team points. 62 teams par cipated. The 61.5 team points placed us 43rd overall and 10th out of 18 teams in Division 3. 113 Hunter Birdsill went 0 2 145 Gavin Burch went 3 2 but did not place. 2 nice wins in preliminary rounds and one win in consola on rounds. Losses came vs 8th & 10th place finishers in the weight class. 152 Monty Jennings went 2 2 and did not place. Defeated in in preliminaries. Came back with two strong wins by pin vs New Lisbon and Cuba City / Southwestern / Benton before being eliminated by 11th place finisher in the weight class. 160 Colton Clary went 3 2 but did not place. Had 2 tough wins in preliminary rounds one vs a ranked wrestler from Holmen. Faced #1 seed and returning Bi State champ Hayden Krein from Sparta in round of 16. Wrestled hard but lost by pin. Came back to pick up a major decision win in consola on round before bowing out by injury default to eventual 6th place finisher from Dodgeville. 170 Sawyer Willis went 2 2 and did not place. Picked up two wins in preliminary rounds one by pin using a nice cradle right from his takedown. Then faced #1 seed and top ranked in Div 2 Shane Liegel of River Valley. Sawyer ba led hard into the middle of the second period before losing by pin. Then lost a hard fought match with a wrestler from Boscobel in the consola on round. 182 Cade Ne esheim went 2 2 and did not place. Had a close, hard fought win in preliminaries before being defeated by 5th seed and 5th ranked in Division 2 Jacob Heyroth of Lodi. Then lost a 3 1 ba le in consola on round. 285 Carson McCauley went 4 3 and placed 8th. Started with wins by pin over opponents from Belmont / Pla eville and Lodi in preliminary rounds. Then faced #1 seed and ranked #2 in Division 1 Cole Godbout of Hudson. Trailing 9 1 nearing end of first period Carson reversed Godbout to his back and was nearing a pin before he was able to fight off his back. Carson ba led hard in the second period before falling by pin to the eventual weight class champion. Carson defeated a wrestler from Monroe by pin in wrestle back ac on before dropping a 7 4 decision to Lancaster and then dropping a 5 1 decision to Lodi in the 7th place match. We had some very tough draws in facing three #1 seeds on the first day of wrestling. While the overall results won't show it there were matches the guys ba led and wrestled hard right to the end. We had some nice takedowns using good techniques we've been working on. But we didn't take advantage of some scoring opportuni es and those cost us a couple of wins in close matches. That's where we need to improve, we can't let those opportuni es slip away without taking advantage of them. Kelley Thieding and Jake Wagner did not compete at this tournament. Hunter Birdsill facing a tough opponent! Monty Jennings working hard on the mat! 31
