Have a responsible adult stay with your kids at all times. Judging and Competition Schedule Information Judging schedules will be available in your check-in packet. We will follow a multi-division format and all assignments are randomly generated. Be advised the schedule may vary, please be flexible and gracious if things are not exact. Judging Information (Please discuss this with your team and with parents) This tournament is about the achievements of the students, teamwork and sportsmanship. Gracious Professionalism is expected from all. Our referees and judges have been trained and are professional in their attitudes and behaviors. They are, however, human and are participating in this tournament as volunteers. The ruling of a judge or referee in this tournament can be reviewed by the Head Referee or Head Judge on the day of the event but their rulings are final and will not be debated. There is no instant replay. 2 Judging Notes Please make sure you have read the Coaches handbook http://www.firstinspires.org/resource-library/fll/coaches-handbook Review Judging Information at the FIRST website (www.firstinspires.org) Please pay close attention to your judging schedule and arrive at least five (5) minutes before your designated time. If you miss your time slot, you will NOT be rescheduled. Please thank your judges for their time. Judging Process: A Team Perspective Project and Robot Design can be impromptu presentations with no previously generated materials. However, your team will do better if you have a prepared presentation to cover all relevant material in the allotted time. All Judging times: 10 minutes/session. All judging takes place in classrooms. It is often difficult to understand a child who is chewing gum or sucking on hard candy. Please respect other teams by being quiet in the hallways when other teams are being judged. Project: 5 minutes to set up and present; 5 minutes for questions o Adults may carry very heavy or valuable items, but may not set up.

o Bring/provide any equipment needed (laptop, projector, sets, costumes). o Set-up counts towards the 5 min. presentation. Robot: 4 minutes for Robot Design Executive Summary (RDES); 6 minutes for questions o Present RDES if you have one: The RDES can be as simple as walking the judges through what the robot does and why you chose to do those missions in that way. o Bring program printout if you have one. o The judges are oriented to the robot game, but are not experts in the minutiae of the rules. Questions about scoring, etc., should be addressed to the referees. Core Values: 5 minutes for exercise; 5 minutes for questions o Do NOT bring core values poster to the room if you made one - keep it at your Team Pit table. o No preparation required. o 5 minutes to read sheet, ask questions and carry out activity. Awards There will be multiple competition divisions at an individual venue. Each division will have 5 awards (Championship, Robot Performance; Core Values, Project and Robot Design). The advancing teams from an event will be chosen by the judges as the best from all divisions. This could mean no teams advance from a venue division, though it is much more likely the advancing teams would be distributed across all divisions at the qualifier venue. Teams will still be evaluated on all matrix content. Teams will receive a feedback scoring rubric http://www.firstinspires.org/resource-library/fll/judging-rubrics Event notes What to Bring One (1) copy of your team roster - to be turned in at check-in/registration. Copies of the Team Profile/Information Sheet - one copy turned in during check-in. A plastic tub or trash bag for storing your coats and bags. Any tools you may need for your team s robot; tape; glue; First-Aid items Items to share with/give to other teams as hand-outs (strictly optional). For ANY precaution or accommodation required for your team, please notify the Tournament Director ASAP to allow for your special needs or considerations. Food Our event is not considered peanut free but we will accommodate as much as possible. We request that teams do not pass out food or candy which contains nuts. NO FOOD WILL BE ALLOWED in the JUDGING CLASSROOMS at SCCC. At St. Dominic High School, we will have a concession stand onsite selling breakfast & lunch items (food & drink) for teams and audience members a menu of items will be provided prior to the event (so you can plan for your team s lunch plan in advance). The concession stand will be run by an SDHS FIRST Robotics Organization a FTC Teams 5481 & 5560 as a fund-raiser. 3

Pit Table Each team will be provided one table and two chairs. Tables will be marked with assigned team numbers. Please no balloons, candy suckers or running during the event. Display your research or solution. Please keep your pit area clean. Power Availability in the Pit Power will NOT be provided at the individual pit tables. Please make sure laptops and robots are fully charged before arriving. A power charging station (with surge protectors) will be available. Please mark all items with your team number. Practice Facilities Practice tables will be available in the pits for teams to use. Please take turns. Please leave all mission items on the Practice table(s) do your best to not walk away with items. Individual teams may bring their mat and mission objects to lay on the floor but if you bring it, you must share and the Tournament Director must approve its placement prior to set-up please inquire at time of Registration (or by contacting the Tournament Director ahead of time). Safety Notes Please be sure you know where your team members are and that they are behaving appropriately. A First Aid station will be available at the Information table. This event is advertised to the public. We encourage others to come and see what your students have done. FLL is growing because of your efforts and those of others. Use common sense. Don t leave valuables unattended. If something is expensive and a likely target of theft, leave it at home or keep it with you at all times. Encourage your students to do the same. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Let s Celebrate! All team members will receive Participation ribbons at the Awards Ceremony, please plan to stay. Award winning teams will receive a Team Certificate. Feel free to copy for each team member. Teams advancing to the Eastern MO Championship (Sunday January 13, 2019) will be recognized at the Awards Ceremony.
