NINERS NOTES June/July 2018 Vol. 19 Issue 6/7 Editor ~ Maria Byers President s Message Since so many of us are out of town over the next several weeks this issue is for both June and July. Hopefully we will cover all the news. It was an honor to win the President s Cup. Thank you to all the ladies who participated and thank you for the kind comments and notes. I certainly never expected to win against my great competition. It was my first time playing in the event and I would encourage you to participate next year. The best part is that it is just one hole at a time. You can forget about your bad hole and move on. I learned a valuable lesson the week following the tournament. Always check your handicap number on the score card. I didn t and posted the wrong score because the number of strokes I was allowed per hole had changed. So, instead of maybe winning some money in my flight, my name showed up on the list of posting the wrong score. Lesson learned. Looking ahead we have our general membership meeting coming up on June 12. There is still time to sign up for the event. (See more details later in this newsletter.) July 10 brings another fun event which is 9ers Unite. The men and women s Niner groups join together for this outing. Look for more information from Charlotte James. Even though I need to set an alarm to make the early tee times, I love teeing off before the heat of the day. We manage to finish before the wind comes up and definitely before the heat. If you haven t signed up for a June play date, please do. The comradery is special as we play through the summer. Debbie Thompson ~ President
With the addition of Sandra Knowles as a regular member and Jane Beck as a social member we are up to 92 full members and 10 social members. Welcome, Sandra and Jane! JO ANN ELLISON, MEMBERSHIP General Membership Golf and Brunch The next general meeting for our membership is Tuesday, June 12. After an 8 AM shotgun we convene in the Agave Lounge for brunch and a general meeting. At this meeting we present our donation to a representative from Tucson Girls Golf Association and of course we have our raffle. Kat Danner has planned a terrific meal and it is a great time to connect with each other since we don t see each other so much with tee times instead of shotgun starts. It s also a great time for our social members to connect with us as well. The sign-up sheet is on our bulletin board. If you can t play golf, sign up for brunch. It you don t want to stay for brunch sign up for golf. And of course, we would love for you to sign up for both!
RULES We are reviewing Rule 19-2 this month. Avoiding penalty strokes, is a way to improve our scores. We can avoid this penalty by being mindful of where our equipment is at all times. Ball in Motion Defected or Stopped 19.2 By Player, Partner, Caddie, Or Equipment If a player s ball is accidentally deflected or stopped by himself, his partner or either of their caddies or equipment, the player incurs a penalty of one stroke. The ball must be played as it lies, except when it comes to rest in or on the player s, his partner s or either of their caddies clothes or equipment, in which case the ball must through the green or in a hazard be dropped, or on the putting green be placed, as near as possible to the spot directly under the place where the ball came to rest in or on the article, but not nearer the hole.
