Common Golf Rules Welcome to the 2013 season of golf! This year has many exciting and fun events planned for the 9 Hole League. In addition there have been some modifications and additions to enhance the spirit of the league and encourage stronger membership. Take a little time and read some of the refresher tips outlined here. It will help you brush up on some things you may have forgotten or do not know. Remember, if you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of the Pros. 1. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you are not allowed to touch the sand. You may take a practice swing as long as you do not make contact with the sand. 2. If your ball comes to rest in casual water, an animal hole, or ground under repair in a bunker, you may take relief from the area without incurring a penalty. You must drop the ball in the bunker no nearer to the hole. 3. If your ball becomes embedded in a bunker, you may move enough sand to see part o the ball. If the ball moves, there is no penalty, but you must replace the ball as it lied. 4. If you decide that you cannot hit the ball as it lies, you must take an unplayable lie. Yu may do one of two things: You can drop the ball two club lengths from where it lied, no nearer to the hole; You may also drop the ball in a straight line back, keeping the point where the ball originally lied and the hole between you. There is no limit as to how far back you can go. 5. If you take an unplayable lie in a bunker, you must drop the ball in the bunker. This will incur a one stroke penalty. You cannot take an unplayable lie if your ball lies in the water hazard.
6. Be sure to hole out on every hole. If you take a "Give me," you are not completing the hole, therefore, making your score incorrect. 7. A water hazard is outlined by red or yellow stakes. You may not ground your club in a hazard. The penalty for grounding your club in a hazard is two strokes. You may take a practice swing as long as you do not ground your club. 8. Remember to play "READY GOLF!" Start to line up your shot before it is your turn to hit. This way, when it is your turn, you will be ready to play. If you need to read the green before a putt, do it while others are putting. Be careful not to distract the others putting. If you do this, it will make the play go quicker. 9. Park the golf carts on the side of the green that is closer to the next tee. This makes it quicker to get off the green and allow the group behind you to "play up." 10. Remember to have fun! We are all about learning the game and having fun in this league. There is never a question that is too simple or too complicated. Never be embarrassed to ask. We want to make golf enjoyable for all!
9 Hole League Specifics Lunch with the Pro This is an opportunity for us to have social and teaching time with the Pro of the day. They may have a brief statement or talk for us and we can ask those burning questions. These days are usually allocated as shotgun starts. In order to further facilitate a lunch start of 11:30 the committee with the counsel of the Head Pro has instituted an all stop time of 11:15. This is based on the reasoning that it should take only 2 hours to get through 9 holes at FCC. If we all play to finish there should be no problems. Walking helps you finish faster. At 11:15 you must stop and turn in your score card whether you are finished or not. For handicap purposes, the player shall record the score that likely would have been made, or, that is the maximum with the guidelines of the USGA Equitable Stroke Control Chart. Cancelling your round If you cannot attend an event you signed up for or someone signed you up for it is your responsibility to notify us. Try to cancel before Sunday afternoon. Otherwise, 1st call the Pro Shop. If no one answers, leave a message then call Ladies Locker Room. If no answer, leave a message then call the chairperson. On Tipping Gratuities to caddies should be given at your discretion and based on the level of service given. The general practice for a good standard round is to give a tip equal to the flat rate appropriate for your caddy's level. If the service was subpar,
give a little less. If it was extraordinary, give more. If the caddy was shared between two or more golfers the tip should be equitably divided amongst the group. 9-hole Ladies rate is $7.50/bag (riding) and ½ the 18 hole rate when walking. ex. Sue and Mary shared a caddy for 9 holes of golf. The caddy performed to expectation. The 18 hole flat rate for the caddy's level is $20. The suggested minimal gratuity for each lady would be $5. Others that could be tipped include the person who receives and cleans your clubs at the end of a round played without a caddy. (Caddies typically clean the clubs during play.) One could also tip the locker room attendant, particularly if your shoes are being cleaned. Walking Golf is a game best enjoyed walking (when physically possible). If you are physically fit do it. If you are physically able but don't think you are fit, try it you may find your fitness improves. It is a common misconception that you play faster while riding. Actually compared to riding in a shared cart, your pace of play tends to be faster. You typically go directly to your ball and play better because your concentration is uninterrupted during the walk. If you are walking you will be assigned a caddy if available. There are a limited number of pull carts in the pro shop if there are no caddies available. The Pros highly encourage walking.
General Golf Rules USGA Rules will govern all play except when modified by local rules. Rules will be enforced at all times. A Golf Rule Book should be carried in your bag and consulted when needed. If any questions do arise, get a ruling from the Pro Shop or Rules Committee. If an immediate answer is not available, play a provisional ball and get a ruling at the end of the round. 1. Know your ball at all times- 2 stroke penalty for hitting the wrong ball. 2. Weather- In case of inclement weather, at least 10% of members regardless of class must finish 9 holes that day. Play may be stopped for lightning, not rain. If this occurs, mark where your ball lies, and after play resumes, replace the ball and proceed. The event will be cancelled after a one hour wait th Hole- Our 9 Holes Rule states that we do not have to put more than 1 ball in the water. If this occurs, carry the ball over and drop in the designated drop area. You will be shooting 3. If your first ball should land anywhere in front of the Women s Tee, but not over the water, it is a stroke and your second shot is played from that point. If you put 1 ball in the water from there, the above rule applies, and you will be shooting A member may not play by themselves on Tuesday morning and have it count for points, birdies, or other prizes.
Handicaps 1. New members should establish a temporary handicap based on 5 scores as soon as possible. 2. To compete for points, prizes or in matches, all players must have an established or temporary handicap and have paid their dues. 3. All adjusted scores must be turned in for a handicap between May 1 and October 1. Post on computer in Pro Shop. 4. Nine Hole Players may obtain an 18 hole handicap by playing 9 holes on the front one day, and 9 holes on the back another day. (CDGA Rule.) 5. Each person is responsible for scoring herself properly and correctly.
Adjusting 1. Learn to adjust correctly. An adjusted score is calculated by checking your score by hole and assuring that you have not exceeded the maximum strokes per hole allowed. (An adjustment chart is posted on the 9 hole bulletin board and in the Pro Shop.) If so adjust gross score by subtracting the number of strokes over allowable per hole. The Handicap Committee will help you. 2. Check the Handicap Chart before play. 3. Post the adjusted score on the computer in the Pro Shop. 4. Post gross, net and adjusted score on the daily sheets after 9 holes. Failure to do so will result in loss of points and prizes for the day s play. X-Ing a Hole The player will receive credit for attendance, and Choice Scores on the other holes, and Birdies. She will not be eligible for a prize for the Day s event or receive credit for Nets and Putts. For handicap purposes, the player shall record the score that likely would have been made, or, that is the maximum with the guidelines of the USGA Equitable Stroke Control Chart.
Hole In One Club Membership is optional. The fee will be determined by the F.C.C. Women s Golf Association. The membership is carried from year to year until won, at which time dues will be reassessed. Hole-in-One members accept automatic renewal of dues unless they have advised the Treasured in writing of their intent to resign as of the next reassessment. If a member leaves the 9 Hole Group, for whatever reason, her money will not be refunded and she will not be eligible to collect for a Hole-in- One. A Hole-in-One is honored at F.C.C. any time during the year, provided it is attained during a regulation 9 Hole Round, played under USGA Rules, and witnessed. The score card must be signed and attested by another player. Guest Day Prizes will be awarded only to Guests. Members post their own scores as on a regular Tuesday and receive points for the day. Members of F.C.C. 18 Hole Group may participate, but are not eligible for prizes. Social members may receive prizes. Donna Gifford Tournament This event is played in the month of June and July.
