Kurrajong-Bilpin Little Athletics Centre 2014-15 Summer Season Family, Fun and Fitness www.kblac.org.au Newsletter No. 7 27 th February, 2015 Only 3 more Friday night competitions remain and another season has flown by! Make sure you RSVP for our Presentation night (details in this issue), and could all of our Perpetual Trophy holders please return their trophies either on a Friday night or at training. Age Managers also need to be thinking about their nominations for Encouragement Awards within their age group, as these will need to be provided preferably by next week. Regional Championships Well done to everyone who made the trip to Parkes for the recent Region 3 Championships. Thank you to all the parents who helped fill our volunteer roster over the weekend, and to our athletes who achieved some amazing results. Congratulations to both our junior and senior girls relay teams who won their races to progress on to State, and also to the junior and senior boys relay teams who both ran well to place 3 rd and bring home a bronze medal. Special mention also to our U8 athletes who are not old enough to progress to State yet, but performed well to bring home 6 medals Well done! Congratulations to the 39 KBLAC athletes who have qualified for the State Championships in March. Extra qualifiers have now been finalised and the complete list of KBLAC qualifiers and their events appears at the end of the newsletter. State Championships Any athlete who qualifies for State is eligible for one subsidized item from the club. Orders and payments MUST be completed by tonight, Friday 27 th February. Please see Kellie at the desk. Any athlete who already has a jacket and has again qualified for State, please hand in your jackets to Kellie tonight so that this year s embroidery can be done. Any jackets not returned by tonight will NOT be returned in time for the State Championships. We will again be placing a pre-order for State Merchandise. All orders and payment for State Merchandise MUST be finalised by tonight! Orders will be sent off next week, and the items can be collected from Susan over the weekend of State. Merchandise can sell out and the queues at the merchandise stand get very long, so it s best to get your order in to save time and ensure you don t miss out. If your child is competing at the State Championships, please make sure you check the program for their event times, call room times and location. The timed program for State is available on the Little Athletics website - go to the Competitions tab, select Championships, then State Track and Field for all relevant info about the event, or go to our facebook page where the program will be loaded. Please note some events move from Saturday at Regional to Friday night at State, so make sure you check your events. with a W next to them will be held on the warm up track, which has its own Call room separate from the main track Call Room, so please check the program carefully. Please don t forget that protests can be lodged and events may need to be re-run, for this reason we ask that you not leave for at least an hour after your event has finished. Like any other Championship event we will have jobs to do at State, and parents of all participating athletes are required to help. As soon as we receive our allocated jobs we will let everyone know, then please see Milton to put your name down otherwise he will come chasing you! As with Zone and Regional, participation in the State Carnival requires athletes to be in full uniform, including the correct singlet/crop top and shorts, as well as registration, age and Jetstar patches on the front of the uniform, and the 150 number on the back of the uniform. Athletes who are not in full uniform with patches firmly attached WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE. Should any athletes require Jetstar patches or 150 numbers (cost is $1.50), please see Susan on Friday nights or at the carnival. Certificates & Medals Every athlete who competed at Zone and Regional is issued with a Certificate listing their events and performances. These will once again be available for collection from the desk tonight. I would ask all athletes to collect these as soon as possible, as any which remain unclaimed at the end of the season will be disposed of. There are also Regional medals yet to be collected by some of our relay team runners, please see Susan at the desk tonight to claim them. Tiny Tots Presentation Presentation Night for our Tiny Tots will be held on Friday 6 th March. They will still participate in their usual activities starting at 5pm; this will be followed by a short Presentation when they will receive their medals and lollybags. All Tiny Tots will also receive a free sausage sandwich and a slushie. Presentation Night Presentation Night for our U6 U17 athletes will be held on Friday 17 th April at The Richmond Club. The formalities will be starting at 6pm sharp, so please arrive and be seated before then. Athletes will be seated at tables with their age groups and food will be provided for them, while there will be additional seating at the back of the room for parents and family members. For catering purposes please RSVP to 0402 917 126 or email s.ferrier@bigpond.com stating your child s name and age group by the end of the State Carnival on Sunday 22 nd March. There will be a list at the desk on Friday nights and at the State Carnival on which you can RSVP, or there will also be an event set up on facebook so that you can advise whether or not you will be attending. It is important that we know athlete numbers to ensure there is sufficient seating and food for everyone. A reminder to all State Athletes to please bring your State Jackets on the night so we can get a team photo. After the formalities have ended, we will be having a disco using the same great DJ as previous years!

New Records: The following athletes have broken club records since our last newsletter. 6 th February: Lianna Davidson broke the U12 Girls Discus record with a throw of 25.92m. 20 th February: Shayne Campbell broke the U16 Boys Javelin record with a throw of 49.57m. Lianna Davidson broke the U12 Girls Javelin record with a throw of 27.18m. KURRAJONG TRAINING SQUAD RESULTS by Marilyn Pearson NSW Youth and Junior Championships The Squad was well represented once again at the NSW Youth and Junior Championships held at Homebush from the 6th to 8th February. Medal winners from this championship and medal winners from the NSW All Schools held last October are eligible to compete at the Australian Youth and Junior Championships to be held in Sydney in March. Individual National qualifying performances were also eligible. Six Squad athletes have now met the criteria for the NSW Team. They are Caitlyn Ferrier (200m & 400m), Renee Hardy (3000m W), Phoebe Young (Long & Triple J), Matilda Ryan (800m), Tully Murphy (Triple J), and Hayden Perry (High & Jav). Most outstanding athletes from this meet were Renee Hardy (above right) who got the championships off to a brilliant start with her gutsy Silver medal performance competing up an age group in the 3000m walk. Caitlyn Ferrier (right) was another star performer slashing a massive 4 seconds from her 400m personal best between her heat and final where she ran a blinder of a race to just miss the Gold medal on the line. Promising young horizontal jumper Phoebe Young put in another massive effort to score well deserved bronze medals in both her long and triple jumps. High jumper Hayden Perry was also once again amongst the medals with Silver in high jump and bronze in javelin. Tully Murphy also had a great comp placing just outside the medals in his triple jump. Our other star performer was the ever improving Matilda Ryan who ran a massive PB & national qualifier in her 800m heat to qualify for the finals with the third fastest time but unfortunately had a bad fall before the final. After a visit to first aid Matilda made the start line but was in too much discomfort to be able to reproduce her previous fine performance. Individual results: Caitlyn Ferrier U14G 400m Final SILVER medal 60.48 (PB & National qualifier), U14G 200m Final 4th 26.76 (PB & National qualifier) Renee Hardy U14G 3000m W SILVER medal 16.48.06 (PB & National qualifier) Phoebe Young U14G Triple J BRONZE medal 10.10m (PB), Long J BRONZE medal 4.79m Matilda Ryan U14G 800m Final 9th 2.31.15 (PB 2.25.12 in heat & National qualifier) Katherine Bettencourt U14G 1500m Final 12th 5.47.43 Michael Bettencourt U14B 800m Final 7th 2.27.01, 1500m Final 7th 4.53.49 (PB) Tully Murphy U15B Triple J 4th 11.49m

Conditions were quite windy so the times overall weren t as fast, but Sara finished for the first time within 2 seconds of Lauren and was very pleased with her run. Lauren ran 57.60 and Sara finished in 59.12. Adelaide Track Classic Jack Bangel was invited to compete in the Adelaide Track Classic on the 21 st February placing an excellent 3rd in a 54.30. Kirsty Klein competed the following day in the Australian & Oceania Open 20km Race Walking Championships, finishing 7th in the Oceania Titles and 6th Australian with a personal best over the distance of 1 hour 41mins. This event was held in 40 degree temperature which made the competition also a trial of endurance. Canteen Roster We are especially in need of volunteers to assist on the BBQ each week. Helping out is a condition of your registration with the club and is vital to helping our club run smoothly. Please make sure you sign on when you are helping out. The Canteen roster is below. Week 1 U6, U9, U12 Week 2 U7, U10, U13 & 14 Week 3 U8, U11, U15, 16 & 17 - tonight! Results: Regional Little Athletics Championships, Parkes, 14 th -15 th Feb. Parkes was the venue for this year s Little Athletics Regional Championships, with 70 local Kurrajong Bilpin athletes making the trip, to compete for the chance to progress to the Little Athletics State Championships next month. While the Under 8 athletes are not yet old enough to progress to State, they did bring home an impressive 6 medals between them, with Caitlin Feltham and Shayli-Rose MacPherson both earning 2 medals each, to accompany the bronze medals earned by Justin Charlesworth and Rebecca Coyte. Of the 62 remaining athletes eligible to progress to State, an impressive 39 athletes qualified to do so in a total of 85 events, after some dominant performances by the Kurrajong Bilpin kids. Leading the charge with 4 gold medal performances each, were Aiden Miller in the U9 Boys who took out the 70m, 100m, 200m and Long Jump events, Brooke Keller who scored wins in the 60m Hurdles, 100, Long Jump and Triple Jump events, and Caitlyn Ferrier who was victorious in the U13 Girls 100m, 200m, 400m and 200m Hurdles, and also qualified for State in the Javelin. Other athletes qualifying for 4 State events were Jessica Keller (Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump and Javelin) and Kiara Ison (100m, 200m, 200m Hurdles and Long Jump), while Cameron Ferrier, Caleb Fairweather, Tully Murphy, Julia Black, Lochlan Brian, Natalie Chapman, Alanah Wiblen, Shayne Campbell and Lauren Russell will represent the club in 3 events at Sydney Olympic Park next month. Kurrajong Bilpin also enjoyed success in the 4x100m relays, with both the Junior Girls and Senior Girls teams winning gold at Regional and earning the right to compete at State. The 38 successful athletes will descend upon Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre for the State Championships from 20 th -22 nd March, hoping for further success representing both the Kurrajong Bilpin club and the Hawkesbury community.
