Primary School Assemblies This term we have performance from the following classes at the Primary Assembly. Please come along and join the assembly if you would like to. Term 4 Dates Year 4 Friday 2 October Year 5 Friday 16 Nov Year 6 Friday 30 Nov 2018 Term Dates Term 3 July 9 to September 21 Term 4 October 8 to December 14 P & F Meetings BSSA NEWS Term 4 Thursday 01 November & Thursday 29 November BSSA Soccer Week 3 results AIS 9-10 Yrs Mixed The team travelled to SLK for games against the hosts and the French School 1 st team. Watching them play each other in the early kick off showed how bumpy the pitch was and how difficult it was going to be to play passing football. The ball often went out on the narrow pitch so how we used our throw in tactics would be crucial. Kicking off against the French School, the team showed their usual trait of being slow starters and by half time we were losing 2-1. An unfortunate own goal and a long ball over the defence had allowed the opposition to sneak ahead and Joe had scored following a corner. The team rallied in the second half and utterly dominated the game. The French were pinned into their half of the field as shots, throws and corners rained down on them. Incredibly they scored two further goals, one of which bounced off a post and deflected in off their player in what turned out to be a 4-1 score line that in no way reflected the game. More was to follow in the game against SLK, as we dominated from start to the finish. SLK snatched an early goal from a breakaway and had one further attempt at goal as we

won tackles, put together attacking moves and fired in shots. Sonny Gosling smashed home a free kick but the team was simply unable to take another of our numerous chances in what became a frustrating game for both players and fans. The game ended 1-1 Both matches had seen our team give everything they had and been exciting to watch. The coach and parents were proud of the team and their efforts. There were good performances from all the players but Joe in particular had been outstanding in both games, breaking up attacks and covering every move the opponent made. In a rare event in these BSSA games, which are predominantly played by the boys, we had featured our all girl defence of Joey and Diajeng. Next week we finish the season at AIS with games against the Green School and French School second teams. AIS 11-12 Yrs Boys Well done to the boys this week in their second round of matches, again on home soil at AIS. This week the boys played against the Green School and the French School. The first match was against the Green School and the AIS boys fought hard to a 1-1 draw. Well done to Gustu for setting up the plays and to Xavier for his offensive attacks. Jackson and Mikhail ran hard in defence to keep the Green School attacks under control. The second match against the French School resulted in a high scoring 3-2 win to the French. Brayton and Kahea were excellent in securing the ball through the midfield, while Mitch and Orlando secured the back half. A big congratulations to Ethan for his bravery and skill in goal, once again putting it all on the line to save numerous shots on our goal. The team s next and final match for the term will be next Wednesday at SLK. This week s players: Gustu, Xavier, Jackson, Mikhail, Brayton, Kahea, Mitch, Orlando and Ethan. Coaches: Arran and Steve PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWS Primary School Swimming Program As most of you are aware, each Term 1 & Term 4 we have been providing Learn to Swim programmes for our Primary School students. Now that we are firmly ensconced in our new campus we are modifying the swimming program to better suit the needs of the community. Upper Primary - Year 3 to Year 6 will now continue swimming during PE time 1 period per week as follows. These students are all independent swimmers and are able to follow a swimming programme supervised by Pak Rod and Pak Putu who are both competent swimmers: Year 3 Wed P.5 Year 4 Thurs P.6 Year 5 Fri P.6 Year 6 Fri P.5 Early Childhood & Lower Primary PS3 Year 2 will be following the compulsory in-school Learn to Swim program with Bali Nelangi once a week. This is in-line with our curriculum and teaching students to swim is also part of our responsibility as an Australian school. The Bali Nelangi team are swimming teachers who are able to develop confidence in your child s ability to swim. They are also able to provide opportunities for

more confident swimmers to develop their stroke and swimming techniques. Both the Upper, Lower Primary & Early Childhood will run from Wk 3 to Wk 8 (6 weeks) Please Note: This is not a replacement for the AIS Flippers Swimming Club as you are free to choose to attend the afternoon club if you would like your child to develop their swimming skills further. Book Week 2018 Find Your Treasure Ahoy Matey! In Week 2 Term 4, we will be celebrating Book Week here at AIS Bali. There will be games, competitions and activities for your class to enjoy as well as the Friday Book Week Character Parade. The theme this year is Find Your Treasure, you may wish to start planning your dress up ideas. This year you can dress as one of your favorite storybook characters or alternatively anything Pirate to go with our Find Your Treasure theme. Aarrgh! See you there me Hearties. Healthy Eating At AIS Bali we promote and encourage all students to have a healthy eating plan. We ask that all parents encourage their child/ren to eat healthy meals throughout the day and avoid too many unhealthy snacks such as chips, chocolates and lollies. We have all been busy parents at some stage and know that at times its tricky getting a lunch box packed in the mornings; however some fruit and other healthy snacks should be encouraged. Here at AIS we do not allow junk food on campus eg. McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Burger King etc to be delivered and we ask you not to pack loads of sugar into your child s lunchbox. Teachers in the Lower Primary classes will remove any of these food items and they can have them after school. Too much sugar inhibits your child s ability to concentrate and focus throughout the day. Please also be aware that this is a nut free campus and no nuts are allowed to be consumed. This includes Nutella sandwiches or snack packs, birthday cakes, donuts etc. Please always be aware of what you are putting in your child s lunch box. Head Lice There have been reports of Head Lice in the Primary School. With the current weather starting to be rainy and humid, it s the more prolific time for head lice to multiply. Please be aware of this and monitor your child s hair regularly. If they have head lice we are obliged to call you and have you take your child home to treat their hair. Best also if you wash school hats and keep an eye on linen at home. Let s all work together to keep these little critters under control. We still have natural head lice lotion from Nitti Gritti for sale in the office along with Nit combs. HIGH SCHOOL Work Experience Year 9 would like to thank the AIS Parent community for it's support of the Work Experience program, we had many wonderful offers of placements with some amazing experiences for the students and thank-you for your time with this en-devour. If your placement has not been taken up by the students please consider again for next year as we will have another cohort that may have varied interests. Regards Sarah
