From the moment the horse enters the ring its movement is being evaluated. The horse proceed directly along the rail, or trot a counterclockwise circle at the in-gate end of the arena and then proceed along the rail to the far end of the arena. Upon each horse reaching the designated position at the far end of the arena they are to remain relaxed. The judge(s) will then ask for the next horse to enter the ring. When all horses have entered the ring the horses shall be asked to walk collectively counter-clockwise and/or clockwise past each (and all) judge(s). They shall walk in a relaxed manner on a loose lead with the handler at the side of his horse, whips down. The lead line must maintain a discernible drape and the handler must not place his hand on the chain or close enough to in any way restrict the natural head and neck motion. The handler may not unnecessarily impede the forward motion of the horse while at the walk. Following the cessation of ed to the judge(s) at the walk and presented for judging. In order to satisfy a proper presentation to the judge, horses should stand correctly, bearing weight on all four feet (not stretched), in a quiet and deliberate manner. Following the evaluation by the judge(s), horses shall walk away from the judge(s), and then strike a trot be-fore turning left and proceeding counter clockwise down the rail. They shall resume their relaxed position at the end of the arena. b. Handlers are expected to keep a reasonable clearance between horses and judges should modify the alignment of horses to achieve that clearance. Further judging will not commence until the Call Judge approves the placement and spacing of all horses. c. After the last horse is presented, the adjudication process is complete and horses will not be further compared. 2. That in the event that any comparative judging is used, in a one (1) judge system, judge shall give oral reasons for their decisions after the card is handed in. In the event of concurrent shows the two (2) judges shall alternate classes in giving reasons. 30. Performance Halter: Performance Halter Classes will be subject to all of the General Rules of both AHA and USEF, particularly AR1, AR2, and AR3. Both Open and Amateur classes may be held. Only an all-age class will be held, except a separate "Prospect" class may be held for horses 2 years of age and under at the discretion of show management. Separate classes may be held for Purebred Arabian stallions, mares and geldings in the open and amateur divisions. Separate classes may be held for mares and geldings in the youth and Half-Arabian/Anglo Arabian divisions. Separate classes should be held for Purebreds vs. Half-Arabians/Anglo Arabians if numbers allow. All Horses 3 years of age and older must have been entered and shown in a performance class at the same show as the one in which the performance halter class is being held, or have completed an AHA or AERC sanctioned Endurance ride, or a Competitive Trail ride recognized by AHA or sanctioned by an AHA recognized Competitive Trail riding organization in the past 90 days. Horses qualifying via Endurance or Competitive Trail must present dated proof of completion to the show secretary. If classes are held in conjunction with an AHA or AERC sanctioned Endurance ride, or a Competitive Trail ride recognized by AHA or sanctioned by an AHA recognized Competitive Trail riding organization, all registered Arabian and Half-Arabian/ Anglo Arabian horses entered in the ride are eligible to show. No whips or other attention getting devices are allowed. Exhibitors may carry carrots, treats, hay, or grass with them. Excessive use of these treats, or unmannerly behavior caused by them, will be penalized. Horses will be presented in a relaxed and dignified manner. Horses should be positioned with their weight squarely on their feet, not stretched. Horses shall be presented for judging, in a soft manner. It is useful to the judge for the horse to remain relatively still while being evaluated. No hard standups will be permitted. Horses will be judged using the Arabian Performance Halter Scorecard, with the results based on the total scores. Shows must post copies of the Scorecards no later than one hour after completion of the class. A horse will be disqualified, and dismissed, if it: a. is crouching, cowering, buckling at the knees, sweating, trembling, racing backwards or sideways to escape their handlers, or other behavior indicating fear, stress, or intimidation. This rule will be strictly enforced; b. exhibits any welt or swelling that looks like a whip mark, regardless of how this c. is obviously limping, or of impaired gait; e. exhibits disruptive behavior such that the safety of it, the han on its body, including, but not limited to, the nose, chin, mouth, tongue, or gums, regardless of cause. Rather than disqualify, a judge may choose to fault a horse that is exhibiting disruptive behavior so long as such disruptive behavior does not qualify as being any of the behaviors described immediately above in Rule 6. Horses may show in a traditional style Arabian show halter, a western style show halter, or a show quality barn halter. Horses may be shown in bridles appropriate to their performance division. Lip chains, or chains through the mouth must not be used. Leather straps under the chin, or leather pieces connecting the two sides of the halter under the chin, are permitted.
