Comet Connection February 15, 2018 Dear Saint Pius X Family and Friends, Congratulations to all of our Comet basketball teams and cheerleading squads for a wonderful season of basketball and spirit. Special congratulations also go to the following basketball teams for their conference wins in last weekend s PECSAA basketball tournament: JV Girls third place, and JV Boys Gold, Varsity Girls, and Varsity Boys Gold who all placed first. I would also like to congratulate our Varsity Cheer Squad for placing first in the 2018 Winter Cheerleading Classic. After a week of spirit days, we have just about completed a week that included our Mardi Gras and Valentine s Day celebrations, as well as Ash Wednesday. I believe that most of us are looking forward to getting back into a normal routine. Although I have to say that this is all relative. It seems that once we enter February, the school year flies by at an extremely fast pace. Students and teachers are working hard in the classroom and it is a joy for me to hear the busy chatter of learning going on as I walk the halls! On Friday, March 2 nd, we will be holding our second Middle School Night Out of the year. This event was snowed out in January during our three days of snow and ice. Student Council decided that the suggested dress for the evening will be semi-formal, although your student may choose to dress casually as well, as long as they follow our no-uniform dress code policy. The hours for Middle School Night Out will be 7:00 to 9:30PM, and we hope that all middle school students will be able to come and be a part of this fun evening. The Shamrock Basketball Tournament, which is held in Charlotte each year, begins tomorrow, Friday, February 16. We wish good luck and good sportsmanship to all of our varsity basketball teams and cheerleading squad. Coach Shelton will be tweeting at @StPiusComets. If you are unable to attend the tournament, you will be able to be kept abreast of the scores of each game by following Coach Shelton s tweets.
Please remember that we will be having school on Monday, February 19 th as a snow make up day. We are finalizing our budget and we will be sending out our reregistration materials in the coming weeks. Please make sure to closely read all of your school emails so that you do not miss this important information. Finally, I want to assure all of our Saint Pius X School families that safety is the number one priority at our school! The safety of our school community is one that we do not take lightly. We have emergency plans in place, and our faculty and staff participates in training each year. We do additionally have lockdown drills with our students, but we do our best to not to alarm our students so that they are not afraid. We continue to evaluate and make changes when appropriate, and our PTO as well as the Knights of Columbus, have helped to purchase items to make our campus continue to be safe throughout the school year. Please see the attached letter regarding school safety from our Superintendent, Dr. Janice Ritter. We thank all of our school community for their support and help to make St. Pius X Catholic School the best school in the Triad. Cheerfully in Christ, Ann G. Flynt, M.Ed. Principal
