BE A RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER SUBMITTED BY FAITH HOFAKER (CAT PROJECT) Did you know that February is National Spay and Neuter Awareness Month? According to the Humane Society, in the United States, there are some 70,000 puppies and kittens born every day; and an estimated 6-8 million homeless animals entering animal shelters every year. If you have a pet, it s important to be a responsible pet owner. Part of being a responsible pet owner is having your pet spayed or neutered. Spaying and neutering is the only permanent, 100 percent effective methods of birth control. There are many reasons to get your pet spayed or neutered; 1. Your pet will live a longer healthier life. Neutering your male pet will help prevent testicular cancer. Spaying your female pet will help prevent urinary and ovary cancer. 2. Your pet will be better behaved. Males especially will become less aggressive after neutering. They also won t have the urge to mark their territory as often. 3. It will help prevent pet overpopulation. Too many unwanted cats and dogs end up on the street or in animal shelters each year. This is the direct result of pet overpopulation. In the cat project, members will learn all about how to take care of their cat, including spaying and neutering. This is super important to the overall wellbeing of your cat. So, if you haven t done it already, join the cat project and go get your pet spayed or neutered.
