Implementatin The Apprved Prvider r Nminated Supervisr is respnsible fr: cnducting a risk assessment t identify ptential emergencies that culd affect the service and use this t prepare emergency and evacuatin prcedures. eg an evacuatin may be necessary in the event f a fire, chemical spill, bmb scare, earthquake, siege, fld etc. (Optinal template at Appendix C) implementing measures t reduce the risk f injury during ptential emergencies. Fr example, string heavy items n the flr r bttm shelves, ensuring hazardus material is stred in a stable and secure way develping and implementing an Emergency Management Plan based n all identified risks and which includes apprpriate respnses including evacuatin, lckdwn, lckut and shelter-inplace, and drill and training schedules. If apprpriate, lcal emergency services (eg fire, plice, ambulance), lcal gvernment, cmmunity leaders and ther relevant agencies will be cnsulted fr advice abut issues like evacuatin rutes, assembly pints and accessibility fr adults r children with special needs submitting the current emergency management plan via the NQA ITS using Regulatry Authrity Requested Infrmatin (RI01) frm by the 21st f Nvember every year if n the Bushfire At-Risk Register. Training may include evacuatin drills, identifying assembly pints and the lcatin f emergency equipment, first aid arrangements and hw t turn ff the electricity and gas supplies. All new educatrs and staff will receive training during their inductin and refresher training fr all educatrs and staff will take place at least annually. Emergency Cmmunicatin Plan The Nminated Supervisr will regularly remind families via cnversatins, email and newsletters that the Service maintains a Register f emergency telephne numbers fr families and we must have current cntact infrmatin. Items will include: attendance registers fr children, staff and vlunteers medicatins fr staff and children financial and business recrds eg cmputer backups if these nt dne externally The Nminated Supervisr will diarise t replace batteries, fd, water, sunscreen and insect repellent every 12 mnths if necessary. Emergency and Evacuatin Prcedures and Drills 4/15

The service will add t each child s sense f security, predictability and safety, and ensure all educatrs and staff are familiar with ur emergency evacuatin prcedures, by cnducting rehearsal evacuatin drills every three mnths. The Nminated Supervisr will develp a schedule fr cnducting drills fr the different types f emergencies identified in the Emergency Management Plan. The drills will: take place at varius times f the day and week (rather than always n a Tuesday at 10 am fr example) t ensure all children and staff members get the pprtunity t rehearse. All persns present at the service during the evacuatin drill must participate be dcumented and assessed against specific utcmes using the Checklist at Appendix B. We will appint an bserver t evaluate ur drills using the checklist at Appendix B be immediately fllwed by a debriefing sessin if pssible t identify any imprvements that may be made. Any training needs will be identified and actin taken t implement the relevant training. Shelter-in-place prcedures The fllwing shelter-in-place prcedure will be cnsidered when an event takes place utside f the children s service and emergency services determine the safest curse f actin is t keep children and staff inside a designated building in the children s service until the external event is handled. If a shelter-in-place actin is determined the Apprved Prvider r Nminated Supervisr activates shelter-in-place prcedures. Mves all children, staff and visitrs t the pre-determined shelter-in-place area. Obtains emergency kit. Ntifies parents/families if the shelter-in-place is ging t extend beynd the services hurs f peratin. Emergency respnse prcedures (specific emergencies) FIRE All staff will remain calm and reprt the utbreak f fire immediately t the Apprved Prvider r Nminated Supervisr wh will: activate the fire alarm. BUSHFIRES/GRASS FIRES Refer Bushfire Plicy SEVERE WEATHER /STORMS AND FLOODING The Apprved Prvider r Nminated Supervisr will direct educatrs and staff t: Stre r secure lse items external t the building, such as utdr furniture. Secure windws (clse curtains & blinds) and external drs. If necessary, tape windws and glass entrances. Utilise bards and sandbags if required. Prtect valuables and discnnect electrical equipment cver and/r mve this equipment away frm windws. (During a severe strm) remain in the building and ensure they and children keep away frm windws. Restrict the use f telephne landlines t emergency calls nly. Tune in t ABC radi if pssible t fllw any emergency instructins. Reprt t the Apprved Prvider r Nminated Supervisr regarding the status f children, staff and visitrs safety. After the strm passes, the Apprved Prvider r Nminated Supervisr will evaluate the need t evacuate if uncntrlled fires, gas leaks, r structural damage has ccurred as a result f the strm. PANDEMIC The Apprved Prvider r Nminated Supervisr will: Ensure basic hygiene measures are in place including the display f hygiene infrmatin. Prvide cnvenient access t water and liquid sap and/r alchl-based sanitiser. Educate staff and children abut cvering their cugh t prevent the spread f germs. Stay alert and fllw any instructins issued by Health authrities. Be prepared fr multiple waves. Ntify the Regulatry Authrity f incident as set ut in ur Incident, Injury, Trauma and Illness Plicy. BOMB/CHEMICAL THREAT The Apprved Prvider r Nminated Supervisr will implement the fllwing prcedures: If a bmb/chemical threat is received by telephne: stay calm d nt hang up refer t the bmb threat checklist. 8/15
