Chiawana Dance Team Tryout Packet Chiawana High School Auxiliary Gym June 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th 5:30-7:30 p.m. Head Coach: Sierra Lobkov

Hello, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Sierra Lobkov and I am the new head coach for dance team at CHS for the 2017/2018 season. I am eager to jump in and work with the team. I have quite a bit of dance experience. I danced when I was younger and then participated in dance team at Ephrata High School from 2004-2007. I then went to Central Washington University where I competed with their dance team, joined the Orchesis Dance Company, and minored in dance. I greatly enjoy dance and believe I bring a lot of great experience to share with our dancers. I am also an elementary teacher in Richland where I currently teach second grade and will teach fourth grade next year. Before you make your decision to prepare yourself for tryout, please make sure that you become thoroughly familiar with the packet of material that you have received because Dance Team is nearly a year-round commitment. You will also want to keep in mind that even though dancing at football and basketball games is a thrill, representing your school at Districts and the Dance/Drill State Tournament is an experience you will never forget. I would like you to consider the financial constraints of membership while on the Chiawana High School Dance Team. Each member will participate in Team fundraisers to help out your individual accounts. Please read the following packet completely. Please don t hesitate to contact me with any questions. I look forward to working with all of you and I will see you at tryout. Good Luck! Sincerely, Sierra Lobkov 770-0324 lobkov.chs@gmail.com

Parents, As a dance team parent I also will hold you to higher standards. I ask that you remember that I am the coach and will make the decisions for the team. Please remember that I make my decisions based on what is best for the team as a whole. There are certain things you are allowed to approach me about and matters you are not. Allowed -If your dancer is sick or you have an emergency family matter -If you would like to volunteer to help on game/competition days Not allowed -To discuss your dancers position in a form, or which dances she is in. -To discuss other dancers. -I take each dancer s privacy very serious and I will never discuss a dancer with another parent. Please sign stating you will comply with the above rules. Print name Date Sign Name Date

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF A DANCE TEAM MEMBER Dance Team members at Chiawana have tremendous responsibilities. Students, faculty and the entire Chiawana community have very high expectations of them in every aspect of school and personal life. In order to have a productive, successful, and enjoyable year; it is vital that each candidate has a clear idea of what these expectations are. Dancers must understand not only what is expected of them, but also be aware that if they choose to fall below these expectations or fail to comply with the rules for the group, they can be removed from the squad. Dancing is a fun and rewarding experience, but the responsibilities are significant and last the duration of one full calendar year. RULES, REGULATIONS AND GUIDELINES 1. As representatives of their school, dancers are expected to serve as examples for others at all times, whether in or out of uniform. They must observe the following: a. No drinking of alcoholic beverages. b. No illegal use of drugs. c. No smoking. d. No use of profane language. e. No obnoxious or derogatory conduct. The Chiawana High School Activities Code must be signed and will be implemented in any situation that is applicable to members of the Dance Team. 2. Travel to and from performances will be as designated by the Dance Team advisor. Dancers will always travel to competitions with the team. Usually dancers will travel from competitions and performances with the team as well, but exceptions may be made ahead of time by written agreement only. 3. Dancers are responsible for the appropriate care of their uniforms, costumes and poms. If uniforms, costumes or poms are lost during the year, the dancer will be responsible for the cost of replacing them. 4. Dancers must wear the chosen outfit for a performance and/or competition. Choosing not to have the correct outfit means choosing not to perform. This includes what they wear when they travel as a group. 5. Any conflicts that arise between members of the group should be kept within the team and settled immediately. It is counterproductive to discuss group problems outside the team. 6. Dancers must attend all practices the week of a competition/performance in order to perform at that competition. They must attend all classes before a regular performance and all classes on the day of an event in order to perform at a regular game performance. 7. Dancers may not hold a job that conflicts with Dance Team responsibilities. Flexibility is essential, and if last minute schedule changes occur, dance must come first.

8. All girls must have a current sports physical if they make the team. 9. All girls must buy an ASB card in the fall. 10. All girls must have their parents fill-out and sign an emergency information sheet along with a current picture of the girl. 11. Girls and parents must read, sign and follow the WIAA Spirit Rules. (Nails, jewelry, shoes, etc.) 12. ALL piercings must be old enough that all piercings may be removed for all practices. 13. They will be expected to attend practices in August in order to perform at the first football games. 14. A girl will earn a Varsity Letter for Dance Team by making and performing in at least 10 dances. She will need to be a member in good standing for the entire year. 15. There may be tryouts for individual performances. 16. Girls on Dance Team will only be able to do a Fall or Spring sport if they do not conflict with the girls ability to participate fully in Dance. 17. Dancers will not be allowed to take any other Zero Hour class as dance team is held during Zero hour. 18. Grades are to be kept up to CHS sports standards. A student has one week from grade release to raise the grade to a passing grade, after that one week the student can no longer perform or compete. 19. Girls may not miss practice for any reason other than a family emergency, or pre planned appointment. I must receive at least one weeks notice of any schedule appointments but ask that you schedule any appointments on non-practice days. Any emails or texts before practice will count as an unexcused absence. When one member of the team is missing a practice cannot be fully productive. Dancer Signature Date Parent Signature Date

WIAA SPIRIT RULES These are a few of the hundreds of rules that are issued by the WIAA and apply to dancers and dance teams. Due to privacy issues, I will not be conducting a full body search before every event. (Some of the possible locations for jewelry or tattoos require the girls to be responsible for removal before practice or performances. Therefore, I am asking that both a parent and the dancer read this information and then sign the statement below. I must have this returned before the first practice. 1. Glitter shall not be on the face, hair or body. (This includes make-up and lotion that includes glitter, but not shimmer.) 2. Hair must be off the face when dancing. If anyone on the team performs any type of stunt or tumbling, then everyone on the team must have their hair off the face and shoulders. 3. Nails cannot be visible over the tops of your fingers as seen from the palm side of your hand. 4. You cannot wear jewelry of any kind. You cannot tape or use spacers. (This includes tongue-rings, belly-rings, ear piercings, nose piercings, rings, necklaces, and every other type of jewelry you can think of.) 5. You cannot chew gum or candy. 6. You cannot fall without full hands hitting first. 7. You cannot wear stickers or stick-on tattoos. (WIAA says you can have a real tattoo but I would check with your Mom or Dad first!) If you do have a real tattoo, it must be fully covered whenever you perform (you may buy tattoo cover-up made for tattoos). If I can see the tattoo..you will be removed from the routine. 8. You may wear small FLAT barrettes or bobby pins. They cannot have anything on them such as jewels. 9. When dancing, you cannot step on any prop. (Including hairpieces or pom poms.) 10. If you must wear a brace, it must be a soft-style OR if there are hard parts, they must be covered to make them soft. 11. THESE RULES APPLY TO ALL PRACTICES, GAMES, PERFORMANCES AND COMPETITIONS. I have read the above information and agree to follow the rules. I understand that the rules are made by WIAA and apply to all dancers in Washington State. Failure to follow these rules may force Sierra (or her designee) to remove me from the practice or performance. Student signature: Date: Parent signature: Date:
