Fax. 9792 3958 Website: www.revesbysth-p.schools.nsw.edu.au Email: revesbysth-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au 19 th August 2015 Principal s Report: Well here we are at week six, having already completed half of the term and we still have a very busy five weeks to go. I am filling in for Mr Whitten, who is on leave for the week. He will be back in the seat next week. Earlier this week I had the pleasure of attending a concert by a combined choir at the Opera House. The choir involved many students from around the region and from China. Included in the choir was a group of girls from Revesby South, who Miss Pincaro has been very busy coaching. The girls spent the day at the Opera House rehearsing and then the evening singing in the choir. They did a fabulous job, not only in their singing but also in their behaviour. Well done girls, you did an amazing job representing our school and thank you Miss Pincaro for the great job you did and for all the time you have dedicated to this group of girls and to the choir. We have also had another group of children representing our school at the District Athletics Carnival. While we did not win the carnival, our students were well behaved and competed to the best of their ability. Congratulations to those students who made it to next level and well done to all those students who attended on the day. The students have been very busy preparing and presenting their speeches in class this week. I have heard that there have been many fantastic speeches given, making it a very hard job for teachers to select the students who will represent their class. I know I have had a very difficult time. So many great performances by the students and sadly I can only select two students to represent the class. Congratulations to all the students who stood up in front of the class to give a speech. This is not an easy thing to do! Well done to the students who have been selected to represent their class at the next level, I look forward to hearing the speeches next week.. The school finals will be held in the hall next week, Stage 1 on Monday at 9.15am, Stage 2 on Monday at 12.10pm, Kindergarten on Thursday at 9.15am and Stage 3 on Thursday at 2.00pm. The children are very busy rehearsing for Bedazzled later this term. Every class is preparing an item and it will be a wonderful performance. Every child has a role to play in their class item and it is very important that all the children attend all the performances. There will be a matinee and evening performance on Tuesday, September 15 and another night time performance on Wednesday, September 16. I look forward to watching a fantastic show. On Thursday, the children s author, Boori (Monty) Pryor will be visiting the school to talk to the children about his books. The incursion

costs $4.50 per child. It is not too late to send in the money for your child to attend. Looking forward to seeing many of you at our Bedazzled Performance! Ms Walsh Relieving Principal OFFICE NEWS: Please ensure when sending money to the office, you clearly state on the envelope your childs full name, class and what the money is for. Please also provide separate permission notes for any whole school activity (eg sporting carnival, end of term BBQ etc) for EACH child as these go to individual classes. EAST HILLS CHORAL FESTIVAL INVITATION The East Hills Choral Festival is a concert showcasing the musical, dance and singing talents of primary and high school students from across the East Hills District. EXPANDING HORIZONS OPERA HOUSE CONCERT The Expanding Horizons project is a cultural exchange program between China and Australia which began in 2009. Every second year, students from China travel to Australia visiting schools around Sydney and performing with NSW Public School students at the Sydney Opera House. Every other year, NSW Public Schools visit China. For the first time this year, 11 Revesby South choir members were selected to join in the 700 mass choir of students from primary schools and high schools all over NSW to sing in the Opera House. The concert also included several other individual group choir performances, full ensemble and jazz orchestras and dance items made up of students from all across NSW. Up to 80 schools were involved in the whole concert. Students from China also performed several items throughout the evening. Those who attended thoroughly enjoyed every performance, were in absolute awe, and very appreciative of the entire concert. It was truly an outstanding showcase of the talent in our Public Schools and those of our Chinese counterparts. It was a very honourable, amazing exciting experience for our school choir. The 11 choir members who performed were: Hannah Bentley, Sarah Bray, Michaela Cosgrove, Felicity Earl, Malayah Evans, Gloria Gong, Kate Kozlowski, Renee Lao, Chanelle Rehayem, Tamara Smith and Danielle Zidan Thank you for the wonderful support of all the staff and parents.
