Issue 24 August 14th 2014 Tinternvale Primary School Tintalk Principal s Comment This week I have felt extra proud of our school. Both Junior and Senior Choirs performed at the Oxfam Music Festival at Box Hill Town Hall on Tuesday night. This was a big event for our students and their first performance at such a big venue in front of hundreds of people. It s important to remember that our Junior Choir members are only in Year 1 and 2. The way both choirs sang tunefully, with confidence and enthusiasm was amazing. Congratulations to every one of you. There was a lot of waiting around for the students and as we have come to expect, they behaved beautifully and were great audience members for the other performances. When you consider these students have only been singing as a group this year it makes it even more amazing. All the credit must go to Beth Stephen who has trained both groups brilliantly. Thank you Beth. Thanks also to Lauren Heywood for her assistance with the Senior Choir. Other staff in attendance Ann Turnbull, Simon Datson, Joanne Wood and I had the privilege of helping out as well. Well done to everyone involved. Yesterday the House Athletics for P-2 students were held. It was great to see so many students dressed in their house colours trying their hardest to earn points for their house. Thanks to Simon Datson for his great organisation once again and thank you to the staff for their assistance. A huge thank you must go to the House Captains for running the activities so well and in such a supportive way. Thanks also to all the parents, grandparents and friends who came along to support and cheer on the athletes. Illness There is quite a lot of illness amongst our students and staff. Colds, flu and gastro are the main ones at the moment. Please keep your child at home if they are sick. Not only are sick children miserable at school, they assist in the spread of germs to others. If your child has an upset tummy in the morning, there s a fair chance they will continue to feel this way throughout the day. Gastro in particular spreads very quickly. Thank you for your assistance in this matter. Concert Music Through the Ages Our whole school concert will take place at 7:00pm on Tuesday 9th September at The George Wood Theatre, Yarra Valley Grammar. Tomorrow a notice will come home to every family for ticket sales. These will be restricted to begin with so that every family has the opportunity to purchase. If there are any remaining tickets, they will be opened up for sale at a later date. Please read the notice carefully and follow the instructions for purchase. As this is a whole school event, it is the expectation that every child will participate. Work on this performance has formed a large part of our curriculum this term and it is important for all students to see it through to the end. The performance will be professionally filmed and the DVD will be available for purchase at a cost of $35.00. Parents will be asked not to film using their mobile devices as this interrupts the viewing for others and more importantly, distracts the performers. Tinternvale Primary School Tintern Avenue, Ringwood East 3135. P.O. Box 179 Bayswater 3153 Phone: 9720 1215 Fax: 9720 8923 E-mail: tinternvale.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au www.tinternvaleps.vic.edu.au

Parking Parents are asked not to park in the staff car park. This is a huge safety issue and prevents the flow of traffic making it dangerous in the street as well. The only exceptions are if there are injuries to students (broken leg, etc.) and after the parent has spoken to me. Rain is not a reason to drop your child off in the car park. If you have other carers collecting your children please explain that they cannot park in the car park. From now on the gates will be closed at the beginning and end of the day. Please do not open the gates to drive in or out of the car park. Try dropping your children off at a safe stopping point and allowing them to walk into school. This builds their self-esteem, sense of responsibility and gives them exercise as well. Last week s session was fantastic, with about 35 pre-school students participating. This week the children will participate in a Phys. Ed session and a Performing Arts session. Shopping Tour A fabulous shopping tour has been organised for Saturday 18 th of October. These tours offer a fantastic day of shopping and fun, with lots of laughter promised. Places are filling fast, so gather a couple of friends and book in with your $20 deposit. Kerrie Level 1 & 2 Athletics Day What a fantastic day had by all on Wednesday as all of our Prep to 2 students arrived in house colours and competed in our Athletics Carnival. They did a wonderful job at each one of the events showing that TPS spirit of great competition and sportsmanship. The sun dried the oval out just enough for all students to complete their sprints whilst the finishing relays were a huge hit as always. A very special thank you to all of the parents, grandparents and friends of the school for attending the event and offering to help wherever it was needed. It was most appreciated. Also, the day reinforced how good our House Captains are! They are amazing! They ran each event on their own, fairly and to time. A wonderful effort. They should all be really proud of themselves as should all of the competitors, well done. A great day all round. Big thanks!!! (Oxfam Festival) HUGE congratulations to all the students who performed at the Oxfam Festival on Tuesday night. It was a huge success and both choirs performed absolutely superbly. I couldn t be more proud and thrilled with how the evening turned out. Thank you to all the parents for making it happen by enabling and supporting their children to be a part of such an opportunity and being there on the night, in the audience supporting us. It was a big night, particularly for the younger year levels, so thank you parents for making arrangements and allowances so that your children could be involved - particularly those who brought along even younger siblings when it was way past their bedtime! From the look on all the students faces I have no doubt it was a thrill for all who performed. I must make special thanks to the staff who attended the evening and helped supervise, roadie, cheer and simply be present as added support. Kerrie Anderson, Joanne Wood, Lauren Heywood, Simon Datson, Ann Turnbull and my mum thank you! There s no way I could have managed the evening on my own. Also, Melissa Kilmartin (a very generous mum) who handmade 120 sparkly choir badges that provided an extra visual pizazz to our already stunning looking choristers.
