SPRUCE CREEK HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR VARSITY/VARSITY BOYS SOCCER *Please review all information carefully. The last page must be filled out completely and returned to room C8 by Friday November 2; no uniforms will be issued until all forms are submitted. Signatures indicate that all information in this packet has been reviewed and is understood. Please feel free to contact throughout the season with any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with you this season. Coach Costner A. Purpose 1. The following information has been provided to inform parents/players about the responsibilities associated with being a member of the Spruce Creek soccer program. B. Eligibility 1. Players must be in school for a minimum of 5 periods to practice or play in a match that same day. Attendance and tardies will be very closely monitored throughout the season. Students with excessive unexcused absences and/or tardies may be suspended until improvement is realized. 2. Players must maintain a minimum 2.0 overall GPA (FHSAA rule) in order to remain eligible. 3. Regular attendance at meetings, fundraisers, practices and matches is required in order to play. Players must be on the varsity roster for the majority of the season to earn a varsity letter. 4. Players are expected to maintain high grades; Grade Book will be checked often and players may be suspended for low grades until improvement is realized. 5. Players are expected to practice good conduct and sportsmanship at school, during practices and at matches. School detentions and suspensions are not considered good conduct. 6. GROSS UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT will not be tolerated; our coaches and/or FHSAA will determine when a player has been behaving in this manner. Examples of this type of behavior are fighting, profanity or dissent. Penalties for gross unsportsmanlike conduct will be severe and likely result in several games suspension or possible dismissal.

C. Attendance at Practices/Matches 1. Players are expected to be on time and attend all practices/matches. Please report to all matches at least one hour early. ALL HOME MATCHES ARE NOW PLAYED ON CAMPUS AT THE SPRUCE CREEK HIGH STADIUM. 2. Coaches must be notified in cases where the player will be absent or late. The following are the only acceptable means of notifying us: a. Notify one of the coaches prior to the absence/tardy b. Email coach Costner prior to the absence/tardy c. Call or text coach Costner prior to the absence/tardy d. See Coach Costner in person in room C8 prior to the absence/tardy 3. The policy for *unexcused absences/tardies is as follows: a. Unexcused Tardies 1 st offense/warning 2 nd offense/game suspension 3 rd offense/ game(s) suspension 4 th offense/game(s) suspension or possible dismissal b. Unexcused Absences 1 st offense/game suspension 2 nd offense/game(s) suspension 3 rd offense/game(s) suspension or possible dismissal 4. Please remember to schedule make up work, club meetings etc. in the morning, at lunch or on off days if possible. Academics are your priority, but they are not to be used as an excuse for frequent tardies/absences. 5. Practices will usually be daily from 3:30-5:30 Monday-Friday (boys practice on Fields 2&3 at Spruce Creek High) when matches are not scheduled. Coaches will keep players up to date weekly on practice days and time changes. Please listen to the 2:40 PA announcement in the event that a practice is cancelled due to weather etc. 6. The PRACTICE SCHEDULE is listed on a monthly calendar on our school website. Logon to sprucecreekhigh.com and click on Athletics (follow to soccer page) to access the schedule.

7. Policy on Club sports practices and tournaments: Boys are not excused from high school practices or matches to attend club team practices or tourneys during high school season. Violation of this policy will result in immediate dismissal from the team. D. Uniform 1. Players are expected to maintain and take good care of jerseys, warm up and bag. Players will purchase and keep their shorts, socks and t-shirts. 2. Please wear your jersey to school on game days. 3. Please bring both home and away uniforms to every match. 4. Uniform jerseys, warm up and bag are expected to be returned promptly at the end of the season; players are responsible for the replacement cost of any lost or damaged items. E. Additional Responsibilities: 1. Report all injuries to coaches IMMEDIATELY 2. CHECK EMAIL AND TEXT MESSAGES OFTEN. This is often how I communicate carpool departure times, time changes for matches/practices, cancellations etc. 3. Players may drive themselves to home matches and local (in county) away matches. Players are not allowed to drive to matches outside of Volusia. 4. Participate in all fundraising activities: a. Sell 3 coupon books (begins in October) b. Sell stadium signs throughout season (see Coach Costner) 5. All junior varsity players are required to work 2 varsity home matches. A sign up list will be distributed at the uniform distribution meeting for JV; bring your calendar or email Coach Costner ASAP to reserve your 2 matches as we only need 5 players per match. Failure to show up to work a home match will result in an automatic suspension from the next JV match. It is the JV player s responsibility to find a replacement if they cannot work a match that they signed up for. 6. Only coaches, players and school personnel are allowed in the bench area/and the benches side of the field during matches.
