1 Creekview Jr. Grizzlies Football Cheerleading Constitution 2018 I. Squads 6 th Grade Cheer Squad 7 th Grade Cheer Squad 8 th Grade Cheer Squad II. Purpose and Values of Cheerleading To create school and community spirit, pride and loyalty. To cheer at all, home and away, Creekview Jr. Football games. To develop responsibility, leadership, organizational skills and punctuality. To develop self-respect, self-control, and self-confidence. To encourage honest effort, develop good character, and strive to uphold the highest personal, as well as cheerleading, standards. To show courtesy, tolerance and respect to others. To teach teamwork and pride in a quality performance while also maintaining good sportsmanship. To encourage physical fitness, coordination, and a healthy lifestyle. To have fun. III. Uniforms Each cheerleader will be fitted for: a uniform (which includes a skirt, shell, sweat shirt, and bloomers), shoes, practice shirt, shorts and warm-ups. A parent must attend the fitting and sign off on size. Cheerleaders will also receive a cheer bag, pom poms, bow and any accessories required. DO NOT DRY CLEAN or IRON THE UNIFORM IV. Practices Practices are mandatory. Illness and death in the family are the only excused absences, and you must call the team mom and inform them as to why you are going to be absent. If you are sick, you must have a doctor s excuse. Spring practices will begin once the squads are formed. This provides cheerleaders a chance to become familiar with the cheers and practice over the summer before the season begins. Practices will be after school beginning in the fall. Cheerleaders should head to the bathrooms after the second load bell and change. As soon as they are changed, they should go to the hall outside the cafeteria and quietly eat their snack. The girls are not to disturb other students or faculty during this time. Cheerleaders should come to practice in designated cheer shirt, shorts and shoes. Hair must be up in a ponytail. No fingernails beyond the end of the finger tips. No jewelry. It is the parent s responsibility to ensure that cheerleaders are picked up from all practices on time and arrive at all events on time. V. Games Cheerleaders must attend all games. Illness and death in the family are the only excused absences, and you must call the team mom and inform them as to why you are going to be absent. If you are sick, you must have a doctor s excuse. This includes pre-season games and play-offs. Captains will be chosen weekly by the team moms/trainers based on several factors including, but not limited to attitude, respect for others, team commitment and attendance. Not all girls are guaranteed to be captain. This will be at the discretion of the team moms/trainers. Some games may fall during a holiday weekend; however, cheerleaders are still expected to attend. Cheerleaders must arrive 1 hour before the game to prepare for run through of half time performance.
2 Cheerleaders must be in full uniform when they arrive at the game. Any cheerleader not prepared for the game (bow, uniform, shoes, poms, etc) will need to sit out until they are identical to the rest of the squad. Please keep warm up pants, pom poms and jacket in cheer bag at all times. While in uniform, cheerleaders are not allowed to wear jewelry. This includes body piercing such as belly rings, ear piercing, cartilage piercing, rings, anklets, and necklaces, feather extensions etc. During a game with inclement weather, the squad is required to stay on the field and continue to perform unless the game has been suspended or they have been dismissed by their coach. Creekland Middle School Competition cheerleader's absences will be excused if a competition should interfere with a game. Excuses for other "one time event" cheer team commitments will be considered on a case by case basis at the discretion of the Board. Code of Conduct Cheerleaders represent the school and are expected to have exemplary behavior and behave at all events. Cheerleaders should willingly cooperate with all coaches, trainers, captains, board members, team moms, and other cheerleaders. Poor conduct, unsportsmanlike conduct*, excessive tardiness, and absenteeism could result in removal from the squad. Removal is at the board s Inappropriate behavior includes but is not limited to: Infraction/Consequence Chart for Sideline Squads: Infraction Bullying (including on social media sites) Profane language Smoking, Drinking, Misuse of Drugs Inappropriate displays of affection Inappropriate gestures or poses (including but not limited to pictures, likes, posts, retweets, comments, texts, sharing, etc. of any inappropriate behavior) Fighting Vandalism Cheating Missing Mandatory Summer Camp Inappropriate practice attire Missing practice, sitting out at practice, leaving practice early. (exception for sickness with doctor excuse) Not being at game 1 hour early* Missing a game Missing any uniform piece during a game (pom poms, sweat shirt, jacket, pants, bow, etc.) Not being in proper game-day attire at school (uniform, jacket, pants or alternate outfit chosen by director) **Unsportsmanlike Conduct OSS/Alternative School Consequence Physical conditioning deemed appropriate by trainer. Sit out 1 ½ games. Loss of position in Half-time routine. Sit out until you are identical to the rest of the squad. Physical conditioning deemed appropriate by trainer. Physical conditioning deemed appropriate by trainer and sit 1 st quarter of the next game. First infraction - Sit out 1 st quarter of game. Second infraction will be brought to board for review and possible removal from squad Removed from squad
3 *If a cheerleader is lost or having car trouble and calls the team mom prior to the designated arrival time, then allowance may be made. Cheerleaders who quit a team or are removed from a squad for any reason during the season will not be allowed to try out for the following year. Penalties earned during the 2018 season will be considered during tryouts for the 2019 season. PLEASE MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO BE ON TIME FOR PRACTICE/GAMES! Practice is over at 5:45 pm. Since the cheerleaders are unable to drive themselves to/from games/practice, the responsibility falls on the parents to ensure timeliness to/from all events. If a parent does not pick up cheerleader after a 10 minute grace window, your cheerleader will be subject to consequences deemed appropriate by coach, Director or Co-Director(s). Excessive tardiness may result in removal from the squad. If there is an unforeseen incident that prevents you from picking up your child on time, it is your responsibility to contact your Team Mom(s), the Director, Cyndee Goeman ( ) or Co-Director(s), Amy Long ( ) or Erin Ford (770) There is absolutely NO STUNTING OR TUMBLING without a trainer present. ** Unsportsmanlike conduct (verbal or otherwise) will NOT be tolerated. This includes negative comments or actions regarding other cheerleaders, students, athletes, teachers-either in school, on school property, during practice, game time (your game or anyone else s), out of school or electronically. If a cheerleader is dismissed from a squad for Disciplinary reasons there are no refunds of money paid and outstanding balances for uniform, etc. on order will still be due and no further product will be delivered. Time Commitment Cheerleading is very time consuming and a team sport. It is important that both cheerleaders and parents realize this commitment. The squad cannot work around everyone s schedules, and stunt groups cannot perform without all members being present. We will practice on Tuesdays for the entire season. Games are on Saturdays and our season starts sometime in August and can possibly run through November. Squads will cheer additional games at Creekview High School for the middle school JV football team some games will be mandatory. The mandatory games will be determined once the schedule is released. All practices and games are mandatory (including games prior to school holidays) Mandatory summer camp - missing camp will result in dismissal from the squad. Mandatory season practices I understand that if my child makes the squad that there is a time commitment on my part. She must participate in all games and practices unless there is an excused absence. If your child is out sick, a doctor s note is required. Frequent absences, excused or unexcused, may result in the cheerleader being removed from the squad. Financial Commitment I also understand that there is a financial commitment on my part if my child is chosen for a squad. The financial responsibilities of a cheerleader include the cost of uniforms, booster fees, spirit materials, camp, instruction and coaching. Cheerleaders will be expected to meet their financial responsibilities. If a cheerleader is more than 30 days in arrears for squad expenses, the cheerleader will be benched until payment is received. Additionally, if a check is returned for Non-sufficient funds you will be charged for all banking fees associated with the check and future payments must be made in cash only. Any balances outstanding from the prior season must be paid in full before tryouts for the child to participate in the current season's tryouts.
