GENERAL RULES and CONDITIONS OF ENTRY 1. COURSE LENGTHS and NUMBER OF FENCES, stated in the schedule, are approximate. FENCE HEIGHTS refer to the approximate maximum height of fixed rails. Hedges may be higher. 2. In ALL CLASSES competitors must JUMP every fence on their course only, in numerical order and pass between all designated flags. 3. REFUSALS will not be penalised, but a competitor who has more than three refusals at any one fence, or five in total, will be eliminated and must leave the course and at a walk. Failure to do so will result in the team being disqualified. A single FALL OF ANY RIDER will not be penalised but two falls by any one rider will mean elimination. 4. The first two members will be issued with blue and red ribbons to be attached to their whips. These whips will be handed over to the next two members in the CHANGEOVER PEN. The last member(s) must have the whip in their hand before proceeding, failure to do so will incur a 3 minute penalty to their team time. 5. If one of the first pair is eliminated or retires, the next pair can proceed but the team will incur an additional 3 minutes to their time. 6. When a HORSE FALLS during any class, it is immediately eliminated and may not continue on the course. A horse is considered to have fallen when its shoulder and quarters have touched either the ground or the obstacle and the ground, or when it is trapped in a fence in such a way that it is unable to proceed without assistance or is liable to injure itself. This does not prevent a horse which stumbles or refuses, thus unseating the rider, from being re-mounted to continue. 7. Any horse ELIMINATED or RETIRING must leave the course at a walk. 8. Team members, officials, or attendants are permitted in any class to retrieve and return a loose horse to its rider; they may ASSIST a rider to RE-MOUNT at his request, as long as it is safe to do so and no injury has been sustained.

9. Team Captains must declare their teams at least 30 minutes prior to their appointed starting time and register any change of horse or rider. Each Team must report to the COLLECTING RING Steward 10 minutes before their actual starting time. 10. All competitors will be given NUMBER CLOTHS and two coloured RIBBONS for which a deposit of 10 will be required and which will be refunded on their return. 11. Competitors may warm up their horses/ponies beforehand only in the area provided, which includes a PRACTICE fence. 12. All competitors must wear HEADGEAR and a BACK PROTECTOR to current British Safety Standards, see Health & Safety Statement above. Hunting, cross country or team dress to be worn. 13. The ORGANISERS RESERVE THE RIGHTS to: Withhold or amend any prize or cancel any class because of insufficient entries; Alter the advertised times; Refuse any entry with or without stating reasons; Alter the course or leave out any obstacle before or during the competition; Split a class if there is significant change in course; Eliminate any competitor not adhering to the rules; Eliminate any horse they consider to be exhausted; Eliminate any competitor for excessive use of the whip. 14. No refund of entry fees will be made if the event is POSTPONED due to bad weather or any other unforeseen circumstances; entry fees will be carried forward to the next date for The Forest Relay. In the event of ABANDONMENT, after the start of the event, refunds of 30% of Entry Fees will be offered. If the event is CANCELLED, 50% of entry fees will be returned 15.
