John Downes English Channel Swim John is a former Irish international swimmer at underage level who went back swimming seriously about 3 years ago after approximately a 25 year absence. John was chairman of the Juvenile Committee in Trim GAA for a number of years and is the man behind the Trim Way our underage coaching initiative which clearly sets out the principles upon which our underage coaching should be developed. John has been a hugely influential figure at underage level and has been a great help at Senior Executive Committee level in terms of the finishing of our development of St. Loman s Park. John has curtailed his activity within the Club this year as he is training very intensively for the cross channel challenge. As you can image the commitment level for such a challenge is daunting and John has embarked on a very gruelling training regime which involves very early morning starts three to four times a week and swimming in the Irish Sea off Malahide every Sunday morning at 9am. His dedication and determination are an inspiration to everybody in the Club. We wish him the very best with his endeavours.
