CELEBRATING 17 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Upstate SC Chapter - American Singles Golf Association October 2009 Next Chapter Meeting October 5, 2009 The next Chapter meeting is scheduled for Oct. 5 th, 2009. We will meet at Logan s Roadhouse in the meeting room with social hour from 6:30-7:30 PM and meeting to follow. Logan s is located at 53 Beacon Drive off Pelham Road in Greenville. Please contact Deborah Fowler (864) 801 2939 or Darlene Lancaster (864) 415-3566 for additional details. President s Message Hello All, I hope everyone has had a great summer. I know we have had some fun golf times and weather permitting we can continue to have some more this fall. I wanted to thank every one of our members that came to multi-chapter Santee outing and helped make the event a great success! We had 22 play Santee Cooper Country Club Friday at 1:00. The format was to play whatever your cart group agreed on. There were no prized involved for that afternoon. We met at 6:30 in the restaurant/bar area for the meet and greet. Thanks to Leslie our table looked very nice where we handed out the name badges and goodie bags. Thanks to Gina, Francine, Hugh and Sam for getting all of the bags together and providing the name tags. Thanks to Sam for taking pictures at the table, Francine, Leslie, Allen, and everyone else that helped sell the raffle tickets and greeted. The donations from everyone in our chapter were great. We had enough door prizes items donated that almost everyone received one. Bob Blaylock really loved his sleeve of golf balls that were used and different brands. He got a kick out of that. You always have to have one to pick on right? I did give him a sleeve of brand new balls, all the same brand! I truly appreciate you for contributing your time and gifts for the outing. It made my job a lot easier. We purchased a Veggie tray for an appetizer and Kitty from Quality Inn donated the chips and salsa and the tubs of free beer at the bar. The staff at the Quality Inn really was great in accommodating us for the whole weekend. They furnished all we asked for and contributed to keep our cost down. That was great! Saturday we had breakfast that was included with the package, and then a great round of golf. The weather couldn t have been better. We had 48 plays at 9:00, at Lake Marion, shot gun start. The format was captain s choice. I think everyone finished within about 4 hours and could enjoy the afternoon around the pool, etc. for free time. John brought some music and Allen brought a jam box for entertainment. We had a lot of dancers and some even came back out to the pool after dinner and door prizes. We provided a Hamburger/hot dog cook out with the fixings and that went very well. Gina graciously did the winners announcements and the door prizes. We paid first and second place. First place was $60.00- $15.00 each player and second was $40.00- $10.00 each for both Saturday and Sunday play. The closest to the pin and longest drive for both days were certificates for ASGA logo shirts. Saturday winners included Ray Kelly, Brenda Powell, Bill Covell, & Jim Whitemore. Second Place was George Weinfurter, Charlene Walker (our new VP of the chapter) ha, and Edna Feliz, & Dave Cummings. Ray Kelly won closest to the pin and longest drive for the men. Judy Holland won longest drive and Francine G. won Closest to the pin. We gave out a door prize of $176.00 cash (free weekend at Santee) and the winner of that was Maria Han Upcoming Events Include: Myrtle Beach in November - Details in newsletter & at Singles- Golf.com/BattleAtTheBeach New Year's at ChampionsGate, Florida. Please take advantage of the weather and plan on getting to know our members and guest better by playing golf and entertaining. If you have an idea or would like to host an event at your home please call Beth Ball. Bethball01@chater.net A TRIP TO COSTCO Yesterday I was at my local COSTCO buying a large bag of Purina Dog Chow for my loyal pet, Biscuit, the Wonder Dog and was in the checkout line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had, an elephant? So since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's ass and a car hit us both. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Costco won't let me shop there anymore. Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the world to think of crazy things to say ABOUT OUR MEMBERS Happy Birthday to these members: Sharon Coln - 10/31 Bobby Gossett - 11/08 These members are up for renewal: (date shown is last day of membership) Marc Brady - 10/31/2009 Welcome newest members: Missy Cashman - Joined 08/20/2009 These members recently renewed: Beth Ball Lesley Chandler These members did not renew their dues: (date shown is date membership expired) Ray Kelly - 08/31/2009 Our chapter currently has 21 members.
