There are five photo categories: Nature Capture a naturally beautiful scene, whether it s a Saskatchewan sunset, an ocean view, or a Prairie Lily in bloom - this is the category for your nature photos. People Do you like taking pictures of your friends or family? This is the category for you! It doesn t need to be a formal portrait, as long as it captures a human moment. Animals Domestic or wild, it doesn t matter! This is the category for all of those photos of your project animal, or that special shot of a wild bird or deer! Action Shot Photos of sports scenes, animals in motion, or a funny event about to happen are perfect for this category! 4-H Day at the Cramer Livestock Expo Green & Clean Our theme this year is Environment & Healthy Living so show us your best Green & Clean photos. This could be events to help the environment, people picking garbage, planting gardens the sky is the limit! All Saskatchewan 4-H members are eligible to enter (you do not have to be in the Photography project). Entries will be judged in three age categories 1: Cloverbuds and Juniors (6-12 as of Dec. 31, 2017) 2: Intermediates and Seniors (13-21 as of Dec. 31, 2017) 3: Adult Entries will be judged based on lighting, composition, and creativity. In 2018, there will be a 4-H Pavilion at the Eighth Annual Cramer Ag Expo on February 22 in Swift Current at Kinetic Park, where 4-H will be running a day program around the Environment and Healthy Living 4-H pillar. The program will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lunch provided for participants. Since our theme this year is Green & Clean, we will be focusing on fun activities to do with water security, watersheds and the environment. There will be an opportunity to do some hands-on activities and maybe even have something to take home at the end of the day. Registration will be available on Eventbrite. More information will be available on the 4-H Saskatchewan website.

Regional 4-H Judging Judging is an important life skill, which teaches the process of evaluation and how to identify important characteristics that can improve quality in an item or animal. Judging can be fun and challenging, but it can also be very rewarding. Learn to Judge Many livestock clubs, districts or regions organize judging clinics throughout the year, where members learn how to judge a class of animals or items, as well as how to present their choices. Additionally, many agricultural societies and exhibition associations offer livestock judging competitions to members. Your Regional 4-H Specialist can present a Learn to Judge workshop for your club or your club members can attend judging workshops. Many of the Regional 4-H Judging Competitions have a judging clinic or workshop for younger members or beginners to judging. Regional 4-H Judging Competitions Regional judging competitions select only the top eight senior members to be Regional Judging Teams. Most judging competitions also combine a judging clinic for younger members. You do not need to be in a livestock project to participate. 2018 Regional 4-H Judging Competition Dates will be available in the Monthly Update and on the 4-H website. Journey 2050 and Farmer 2050 The year 2050 is a key moment in time - the world s population is projected to be 2 billion more than today. Food production needs are expected to rise by at least 60 per cent resulting in increased pressure on agricultural land, habitats and communities. Agrium has created two apps, available on Google Play and itunes, to help teach youth about these challenges. Journey 2050 Journey 2050 takes students on a virtual farm simulation that explores world food sustainability. Using an inquiry based approach the program encourages students to make decisions and adjust them as they see their impact on society, the environment and the economy at a local and global scale. The students experience the lives of three farm families in Kenya, India, and Canada. As the student interacts with each family they learn the role of best management practices in feeding the world, reducing environmental impacts and in improving social performance through greater access to education, medical care and community infrastructure. Remember, every decision you make impacts our world s sustainability learn to balance social, economic and environmental factors at a local and global scale. Farmer 2050 Agrium worked with community partners around the world to launch Farmers 2050 a new version of the Journey 2050 farm simulation game that allows for ongoing game playing at home and it s available for download to your mobile device right now. Farmers 2050 s interactions include more commodities, exposure to careers, unique learning moments, videos of real farm practices and much more. There are educational messages incorporated to ensure players understand the importance of feeding the world while balancing economic, social and environmental factors.

4-H Canada Events & Opportunities Club to Club Exchanges Have you always dreamed of exploring this amazing country we live in? By taking part in a 4-H Canada Club to Club Exchange, you can head to the other side of the country and take in all that Canada has to offer! The 4-H Canada Club to Club Exchange program is open to groups of eight to 10 4-H member delegates between the ages of 12 and 17, supported by two chaperones. Selected groups from Eastern Canada will be twinned with groups in Western Canada. Three time periods for travel have been established and selected groups will choose, in consultation with their twin group, when each will host and travel. The length of the exchange can be shortened, but will not fall outside of these set dates. Exchange participants will stay with their twin family and enjoy a unique experience spanning cultures, languages, and history. Apply by January 15, 2018!
