PRESIDENT S CORNER. As I write this today, it is as warm and sunny spring day. And now I hear on the news we may be in for more snow next week. Gee, will it ever stay warm? I am ready for some hiking without having to freeze my buns off. Hopefully Mark is planning a hike on a good day in the near future. If you missed Bavarian Bingo you missed an awesome night at the Rogers. Wonderfully delicious food, mostly homemade too, by Mike and Barbara, and another night of entertainment we would have never expected. Thank you both for a job well done, and for hosting the event. Speaking of Mike, he is doing a grand job with our socials, and this month will be no exception as we dine at Stone Soup in Landrum. Jan is taking sign ups (AND money) for the Piedmont Club in April, so don t get left out of that delight. Crescent is hosting a spring conference (aka p-a-r-t-y!) at Myrtle Beach, not to be confused with Myrtle Manor. The Purple Bus is coming up in a couple of months and I am taking money for that event. Perhaps Greenville and Asheville will be joining us this year. I want to send many thanks to Kent Welke and Mark McCall for a job well done in taking care of all the racing events and all that is involved. You were great co-directors. I know this takes a lot of time and effort on your part, and I appreciate you doing all of that. Where is SAM????? I hope we see him more next year. And once again, thanks also to ALL the racers! As always, when you make out a check for a ski club event, please be sure and make it out to the club. Thank you and I look forward to see you at the Piedmont Club. Conni Harrell President, SSOC Page 2

PIEDMONT CLUB April 0 A reminder that we will be hold our annual awards dinner at the Piedmont Club. Remember the buffet is only on the second Thursday, so we will meet on April 0 for our evening of celebration. The room will be available to us beginning at 6:00 PM and we will go through the line at 7:00 PM. The club will provide the all-important beverages! The deadline for signing up will be April 7. We have to let them know how many of us will be eating so they will be sure to have enough of the luscious food to go around! This year the cost has gone up, so we will have to charge $40.00 and as always, it covers the buffet, the bar tender, setups, taxes and tips. I will have the sign-up sheet available at the Wild Wings mini-social on March 25. If you wish to mail your money to me, phone and we can make the arrangements. Whenever you pay me, the monies go through the club so please make any checks out to the Ski and outing Club. For those who like to plan your calendar in advance, we have a tentative date reserved for April 9, 205. See all of you at the Piedmont Club for our annual awards dinner and officer installation. Birthdays The following members have birthdays in April. Happy Birthday to: Taylor Bomar Mark McCall Teresa Bowers April 2st April 7th April 8 th Have a wonderful day! LaZoom ASHEVILLE BUS TOUR Here we go again! The BIG Purple bus tour will be a hoot. Almost 2 years ago we found his hilarious group of actors on our historical tour of Asheville. Our plans are to hop on the bus and take a 90-minute tour of Asheville, seeing the historical and hysterical side. It s an open-air bus so May 24 should be a good time before our summer heat waves and summer vacation crowds. Tickets will be $22.00 if we have 0 or more, and I have reserved 5 seats. The bus is scheduled to leave at 3 PM from downtown Asheville. In order to reserve a seat, payment to the club will be made no later than May. We will release any unsold seats on that date. We might be able get more seats after that, but I wouldn t want to take a chance. We can eat lunch before the tour, or dinner afterwards. Remember first to pay, first on the bus. Please let me know who is interested so SSOC can start planning. Check it out at www.lazoomtours.com Contact me at 864-592-3404 or tedcancom@att.net and get on the bus! Conni Harrell Page 5

SPARTANBURG LITTLE THEATRE PRESENTS BOEING BOEING This play was taken from the movie of the same name. It is a story of a playboy who juggles 3 international fiancées who are also stewardesses (not yet named flight attendants of today). He keeps track of their flight schedules and layovers, so they won t cross paths with each other, but, an unexpected change, a new airplane called a Boeing, lands all three in his apartment at the same time! A fast paced romp with quick timing. Saturday May 0, 8 PM, Dinner before the play Tickets $24.00 Seniors All others $25.00 This too should be a fun filled event. If you are interested, or have a question, please contact me at 864-592-3405 or at tedcancom@att.net. Tickets will be on your own, but let s try to get a group together for seating. We will be going to dinner somewhere before the play, so keep in touch. Look forward to hearing from you! Conni Harrell President, SSOC Page 6

NOTES Any Spartanburg Ski Club member may submit items for publication in the newsletter. Publication deadlines can be found on the pullout calendar included in the newsletter each month. Call Taylor for information on how to submit your newsletter item. Also, don t forget - the club has a tent available for rent. It is an 8 X 20 tent, and it is easy to assemble. We also have 4 tables that can be rented with or without the tent. We have the makings for that special occasion and it is all very reasonably priced! Tent rental is $ 35. Tables can be rented for $5 per table. Remember; don t have a party without the comfort of shade. Your guests will appreciate it and so will the club! For rentals of either tent or tables contact Joy Bobo. The Spartanburg Ski & Outing Club normally meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. We are located at the Chapman Cultural Center (West Wing) on East St. John Street in Spartanburg on the first floor. During the summer months (June, July, and August) meetings are frequently held, more informally, at different sites and times. Therefore it is necessary to consult the club web site or a current newsletter for the time and location. April s meeting is held at the Piedmont Club. The club does not provide alcoholic beverages at membership meetings, but members are allowed to bring their own (BYOB) choices of beer or wine. Over-indulgence is not condoned under any circumstances. Cups, ice, and some soft drinks are provided. Thank you.
