U13 Lady Taverner National Finalists After being crowned the U13 Regional Champions in the Ageas Bowl, Hampshire, the team went on to represent the school at the National Finals, which took place at Lord s Cricket Ground. The team were up against four of the best schools in the Country including Bristol Grammar School, Wakefield Grammar School, Kent College and Leicester Grammar School. The team finished in a commendable 4th place after 1 win against Bristol Grammar and 3 losses. On behalf of the P.E department we are so proud of our young team who were a credit to our school. We hope the girls can continue with their success and we look forward to the year ahead. Congratulations to Bethany Cook (Y8) who was awarded player of the tournament by Miss Ireland and Miss Willis. Cardiff Schools Selection Wales Hockey A special mention to Rhys Couston, Clem Entwistle and Will Morgan on playing for the U13 Welsh Hockey Dragons and representing Wales at the regional UK tournaments. What a huge achievement. Well done! Congratulations to our fantastic Year 9 GCSE P.E pupils on their selection for Cardiff School s Rugby. Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions Well done to all the pupils (Y10 Y13) who have completed their Bronze, Silver and Gold expeditions over the past few months. Gold and Silver taking place in the Brecon Beacons and the Bronze at the Gower. Special thanks to Mrs Atkins and the Storey Arms staff for organising and hosting the expedition. Additionally, many thanks to all the staff who have given up their time to accompany the expeditions. Thank you all for giving up your time!
Player of the year Cardiff school s rugby U12 Plate Winners Well done to Morgan Jones (Y10) who received the Cardiff RFC Hubert Johnson Player of the Year award. Congratulations Morgan! Cardiff & Vale Congratulations to Daniel John (Y10) on representing the Cardiff and Vale County schools football. Unfortunate to lose on penalties in the finals against Wrexham after drawing 3-3. Dan also won U15 squad man of the year as well as receiving his CVSFA cap for representing 3 years! Well done Dan. Congratulations to the Y7 boys who represented Pentyrch in the Blues Cup and became the 2018 U12 Plate Winners. Well done to all involved including our own Roan Vanstone (Y7). Cardiff & Vale This year/season Ethan Akram (Y8) captained Cardiff & Vale Schools football association under 13 s and after a hard fight in the group stages the team managed to reach the national final in Oswestry. Unfortunately, they lost but Ethan enjoyed the day and gained unforgettable memories. Ethan managed to duplicate his success and won the under 13 s player of the year award! Ethan was also rewarded a playing cap for representing the association for four years, three of which have been in competitive football. A Cap for Caitlin Da iawn to our Year 7 pupil Caitlin Jewitt who received her first cap for Wales U12 girls Cricket squad. Exciting times! Well done Caitlin. Swimming Sensation! Congratulations to our GCSE P.E pupil Isabelle Morgan (Y9) who has been selected to compete in Germany at the Internationales Stuttgarter Schwimmfest. We wish you all the best Issy! Sports Day 2018 On June 29, the whole school headed on down to Leckwith Athletic Stadium for what was set to be another fantastic Sports Day at Radyr. All staff and pupils were in high spirits throughout the day. There were some amazing displays of athleticism and talent on show. It was a pleasure to see everyone having fun and embracing the day and getting involved in all the different events. Thank you to all the pupils who created the amazing banners to represent their form group. The standard was higher than ever. A substantial number of records broken and pupils who placed in events will be presented with their certificates in their end of term assemblies. We are already looking forward to next year! Congratulations to Dwynwen who were victorious! Credit to Miss Ireland for her superb organisation and making it all happen! Y6 P.E Transition Day Year 6 P.E transition morning was a fantastic success with all our feeder primary schools engaging in a full morning of P.E. related activities. All form groups experienced different sports featured on the P.E curriculum including Hockey, Football, Outdoor and Adventure, Rugby, Athletics, Basketball and Tennis. We look forward to welcoming you to Year 7 in September. Many thanks to all the staff involved and to Mr Jama for organising! We would also like to thank the Year 7 transition ambassadors who are fantastic role models and assisted the Year 6 pupils throughout the morning. Wales V England Radyr V Church Stretton On July 10, Radyr P.E welcomed Church Stretton School, Shropshire. Over 100 pupils took part in what was a fantastic afternoon of sport. Sports included U15 Netball, U13 Rounders, U13 Football and U13 Touch Rugby. Credit to all pupils from both Radyr and Church Stretton for their effort and enthusiasm particularly with the hot weather. The U15 Netball team drew 15-15 after four tough quarters. The U13 Radyr Rounders team won with a total score of 16-5. The U13 Football team had a great game winning 5-0 and congratulations to the Touch Rugby team who defeated Church Stretton with a score of 49-7. Thank you to all the staff and pupils who travelled, we look forward welcoming you again soon! Panos Karras I am the mother of Panos Karras (11 Congratulations to Panos Karras (Y11) who participated in the U16 boys FIBA European Basketball tournament with the Wales National team (San Marino, 3-12 July). The Welsh team won the silver medal for the very first time ever! Panos was selected in the All Star 5 players of the tournament (amongst 10 participating countries)! What a fantastic achievement and experience to be a part of. Da iawn Panos. Congratulations to our fantastic GCSE P.E pupils Grace Morgan, Nia Riley, Issie Tustin (Y11) on your international selection for the Celtic Games. We would also like to congratulate Nia Riley (Y11) who is the current Champion of the 800m event. We are so proud of you all and everything you have achieved over the past year. We wish you all the best for the upcoming season. Welsh International Huge Congratulations to our very own ex-pupil Ben Fry. Ben represented his country in the Rugby World Cup U20 s Welsh squad playing number 8 in his debut match against Japan winning 18-17. He also went on to play against Argentina. What a fantastic achievement for Ben and his family. He is a true role model. We wish him all the best with his future career. U17 Wales Netball Congratulations to Niamh Driscoll (Y10) who has been selected for the Welsh U17 Netball long squad. Niamh currently plays for CTK and has worked tremendously hard and it s fantastic to see all her hard work and commitment has paid off! We wish you all the best with your upcoming season! Go Niamh.
Euro Hockey Congratulations to Will Couston (Y11) representing Whitchurch Hockey Club at the Euro Hockey Club Challenge. Whitchurch managed a fantastic win after coming from 4-2 down with 10 minutes left to play. The team drew 4-4 with the final goal just seconds from the end. The team pulled through and won 3-1 on penalties. What a fantastic experience for Will and his team mates, Da Iawn. Welsh Discus Champion Congratulations to Ella Jackson (Y9) on becoming the U15 Welsh Champion in the Discus. Well done Ella! A special mention to our very own Head of Department, Miss Ireland. Miss Ireland leaves us at the end of the school year to embark on a new adventure as Head of P.E in Ludlow Church of England School, Shropshire. We are confident that you will do an amazing job and on behalf of everyone at Radyr, we can t thank you enough for everything you have done for the pupils, the department and the school.
