The BlueClaws return to the Eastern Shore after splitting a four game set with the Shorebirds in the last weekend in May. The Shorebirds finished up a six game road trip with a 2-4 mark against Greensboro and West Virginia, while Lakewood finished their homestand 3-3 against Hickory and Lexington. Since the Shorebirds opened the season with a 4-6 mark and lost two of the first three series, they have a series record of 9-3-2 over their last 14 sets, going 29-19 over that stretch. There are 11 games left for the Shorebirds in the first half, and they enter the evening four games behind divisionleading Hagerstown. TONIGHT S OPPONENT: Right-hander Drew Anderson makes his fourth start of the season tonight, and his third against the Shorebirds. Anderson missed significant time with Tommy John surgery after hoping to originally avoid the procedure. He was a 21st rounder in 2012 from Reno, Nevada-area high school. Anderson pitched in Lakewood in 2014 as well, when he injured his elbow pitching against the Shorebirds in May of that season. LAST GAME QUICK HITS: The Shorebirds played their third extra innings game in four nights, but they came out on top 2-1 thanks to Natanael Delgado. Delgado was activated off of the Disabled List prior to yesterday s game, and he finished the night 2-4 with a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the tenth off of Luis Morales. Delgado helped the Shorebirds to an 8-1 record in extra inning affairs. Ofelky Peralta battled early control problems, but a double-play in the first and two runners caught stealing in the fourth really helped him settle down. PLAYER TO WATCH WHO S HOT/WHO ELSE ALEX MURPHY C Alex Murphy has been the most consistent offensive weapon for Ryan Minor s club this season. He s rotated between catcher, first base and DH, and has been on a tear lately. Murphy is hitting.260 with 10 homers and had reached base safely in 22 straight games until 5/26. WHO S HOT RYAN MOUNTCASTLE Ryan Mountcastle had a rough start to the season, hitting.162 in 18 April games. Since then, he s hitting.337 (34-101) in 27 games over May and June to bring his average up to.266, which is second best on the team. He went 1-4 with an RBI last night. WHO ELSE GARRETT CLEAVINGER Cleavinger was the Orioles Minor League Pitcher of the Month in April and was even better in May. The lefty is now 5-0 with 2 saves & a 1.56 ERA in 15 games this season.

This will be his 35th start in the South Atlantic League and his 45th career start since being drafted early in the 2014 MLB First Year Player Draft. He was selected in the third round of the draft, but was the Orioles top selection that summer. Gonzalez has a 2016 Shorebirds season-best among starting pitchers with five wins entering this evening s game. ARSENAL: 2-Seam Fastball, 4-Seam Fastball, Curve, Circle Change 2015 WITH THE SHOREBIRDS: Gonzalez pitched 105.1 innings in Delmarva last year, starting in each of the 23 games in which he worked. He finished the campaign 4-9 with a 5.71 ERA. Gonzalez finished the season on a sour note, tainting what was otherwise a fairly strong year. He allowed at least four runs in each of his last four outings. Brian has great stuff and was dominating in his four winning decisions. Gonzalez was high school teammates at Archbishop McCarthy in Fort Lauderdale, FL with Cincinnati Reds Top 10 prospect and 1st round draft pick Nick Travieso. Two years after the Reds took Travieso 14th overall, the Orioles selected Gonzalez in the third round (90th overall). Chicago White Sox catcher Alex Avila, Detroit Tigers outfielder Nick Castellanos and Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Danny Farquhar are among the most notable professional baseball players from Archbishop Mc- Carthy. LAST OUTING: Gonzalez battled through some control problems in Greensboro and gave Delmarva a chance to win, but he left with a no-decision after five innings. He allowed two runs on six hits and left in a 2-1 game. The first run he allowed came when Anfernee Seymour stole home on a failed pickoff and rundown between first and second base. The second run came on a two out grounder through the middle, just past Ryan Mountcastle. He dealt with baserunners in every inning and didn t have the same success he s found with his breaking ball over the last four starts. 2016 SINGLE GAME STATS PRO CAREER GAME HIGHS Low Runs: 0, twice Innings: 6.1 vs. LWD (5/19/15) High Runs: 4, twice Runs: 7 vs. HAG (6/29/15) Low Hit: 2, 5/24 vs. GBO Hits: 8, 5/29/16 vs. LWD (7, 2x) High Hits: 8, 5/29 vs. LWD Walks: 6, vs. KAN (4/24/16) Innings: 6.0, five times Strikeouts: 10, vs. GBO (5/24/16) Most Walks: 6, 4/24 vs. KAN Pitches: 96-56 vs. KAN (4/13/16) Strikeouts: 10, 5/24 vs. GBO Hit Batters: 2, 3x (last 5/2/16) 2016 MISCELLANEOUS NUMBERS W L ERA GS IP ER Home 2 2 2.05 4 22.0 5 Road 3 0 2.56 7 38.2 11 Day 0 1 3.94 3 16.0 7 Night 5 1 1.81 8 44.2 9 AVG AB H HR BB SO vs. Left:.254 59 15 0 7 17 vs. Right:.237 169 40 2 15 36 TOTALS:.241 228 55 2 22 53 2016 INNING-BY-INNING Inning ERA IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG GIDP 1 4.91 11.0 17 7 6 1 3 9.370 1 2 0.82 11.0 6 2 1 0 3 7.162 2 3 1.64 11.0 9 2 2 0 3 6.225 0 4 0.82 11.0 6 1 1 0 5 10.162 1 5 3.27 11.0 10 5 4 1 5 14.233 1 6 3.18 5.2 7 2 2 0 3 7.280 0 7 8 9+ 2016 MONTH-BY-MONTH Month Record ERA IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG April 2-0 3.48 20.2 21 10 8 2 10 17.263 May 3-2 1.54 35.0 28 7 6 0 10 34.220 June 0-0 3.60 5.0 6 2 2 0 2 2.286 July August CAREER STATISTICS Season Team W-L ERA IP H R ER HR BB SO 2014 Aberdeen 0-1 5.00 9.0 10 5 5 0 2 11 2015 Delmarva 4-9 5.71 105.2 98 76 67 8 59 81 2016 Delmarva 5-2 2.26 60.2 55 19 16 2 22 53 TOTALS 9-12 3.96 200.0 174 101 88 10 91 170 CAREER AGAINST THE BLUECLAWS: Gonzalez makes his sixth career start against Lakewood tonight. In three starts in 2015, Gonzalez went 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA, but that doesn t tell the whole story. On May 19th last year, Gonzalez tossed arguably the best game of his career when he fired six shutout frames and allowed just one base hit. He walked two and struck out five. He was solid again on June 16th, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in five innings. His final start of the 2015 season also came against Lakewood on August 15th, and Gonzalez surrendered five runs in 3.2 innings and took the loss. Two of his four wins last season came against Lakewood. He made one start against the BlueClaws last weekend and earned the win in six shutout innings. This season, he is 1-1... he threw six shut out frames in Lakewood on May 19th with seven strikeouts, but he lost at home on May 29th when he gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits in five innings. TOMORROW S PROBABLE: Reid Love is slated to take the ball tomorrow night for the Birds. He is 3-3 with a 3.00 ERA this year, and makes his third career start against Lakewood.

Game #61 Delmarva Shorebirds vs. Lakewood BlueClaws (Phillies) Arthur W. Perdue Stadium MANAGER RYAN MINOR Minor, 42, returns for his eighth season on the Shorebirds coaching staff, and his sixth as the team s manager. In 2015, he led the Shorebirds to 71 wins, the most victories for the franchise since 2009. This is Minor s second stint in Salisbury, having previously managed the Shorebirds for three seasons (2010-12) and spent two seasons (2008-09) as the hitting coach for the Shorebirds. In between, he managed the Frederick Keys (Advanced-A) in 2013. During his tenure as manager of the Shorebirds, the team compiled 302 wins, the most of any Delmarva manager. Minor aided the development of current Orioles, Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop, who played for the Shorebirds in 2011. Minor, a longtime resident of Salisbury with his wife Allyson and two children Reagan and Finley, enjoyed a four-year run in the major leagues from 1998 through 2001. He spent his first three years with the Orioles and his final season with the Montreal Expos. Minor s playing career is best remembered for replacing Cal Ripken, Jr. at third base on September 20, 1998 when the consecutive games streak of 2,632 came to a close. The Orioles drafted Minor in the 33rd round of the 1996 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Oklahoma. In 1997, he played for Shorebirds and was an SAL All-Star third baseman. He batted.307 with 24 home runs and 97 RBIs. Minor still owns the franchise single season records for doubles (42). Minor also owns a decorated college basketball career. He is seventh all-time in scoring at Oklahoma with 1,946 points. He was selected in the second round (32nd overall) of the 1996 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.
