Huron Women s Swim & Dive Team Huron Aquatics Newsletter Huron vs Dexter September 24th, 2013 Pictures by: Lori Riegger Article by: Margaret Baker The River Rats faced a strong Dreadnaughts team on September 24th evening at the Ratatorium. Dexter came out ahead 102-84, but there were many great moments for the Rats. Sophomore Kathy Pan continued her first-place dominance in the 200 IM (2:12:78), with fellow sophomore Anna Riegger a strong third (2:19:54) in the event. In the 200 free, Captain Samadhi Kiridena (2:03:02) and Mary Claire Chamberlain (2:08:99) were 2nd and 4th, and in the 50 free, Adela Baker (26.81) and Rachel Mattson (26.92) finished 4th and 5th, very close in on Dexter s Abby Mesaros (26.80), who was 3rd. Kiridena won the 100 fly (1:02:04), and sophomore Dany Kotlyar (1:08:03) finished 4th. Huron s best event of the night was the 100 free, where junior Anna Li Aguirre (58.74) took 2nd, followed by a tie for 3rd by teammates Mattson and sophomore Abby Dittmar (59.85). Pan took 2nd in the 500 free (5:20:84) with Baker in 4th (5:42:05). In the 100 back, Aguirre (1:05:07) and sophomore Shely Redding (1:08:07) finished 2nd and 5th, while Kotlyar (1:13:03)and Riegger (1:14:11) were 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 100 breast. Because of a rare DQ by the Dexter A 4 X 100 relay, Huron took the top spot (3:57:41) with swimmers Chamberlain, Aguirre, Dittmar and Kiridena, and Huron s young B relay took 3rd (4:11:94), featuring freshmen Kirby Gardner and Katy Stegemann, and sophomores Annabelle St. Pierre and Baker. In diving, Captain Madeline Woods dove to her fifth victory in a row with a score of 208.15. Junior Katherine Wardner had an excellent showing with a 3rd place finish of 159.75. She secured her place with a score of 17.50 on her 401B, inward dive pike. Senior Meghan Meader came in 4th with a score of 158.95 and sophomore Georgia Plagens took 5th with a score of 132.20. On Thursday, Sept. 26, Huron travels to Bedford for their next dual meet contest, and will send a strong squad to Salem Saturday, Sept. 27th for the Salem Rock Mauer Invitational. Huron Women s Swim & Dive Team Huron vs Bedford September 26th, 2013 Article by: Margaret Baker The River Rats captured their fifth dual meet victory at Temperance Bedford with a final score of 122-64. Temperance Bedford started out the evening strong with a win in the 200 Medley Relay, but Huron took 2nd and 3rd in the event, which featured Captain Samadhi Kiridena, Captain Rachel Mattson, MaryClaire Chamberlain, and Adela Baker (1:59:25), and Abby Dittmar, Anna Riegger, Meghan Meader and freshman Katy Stegemann (2:07:65). Anna Li Aguirre just missed 1st in the 200 free, coming in a very close 2nd (2:05:69), followed by Annabelle St.Pierre (2:20:16) and Sarah Wang (2:20:57) in 3rd and 4th. The 200 IM was dominated by Huron swimmers, with Riegger (2:19:98) taking the top spot, Dany Kotlyar (2:23:32) in 2nd and sophomore Sarah Gargan (2:42:12) in 4th place. The Rats also shone in the 50 free with Kathy Pan (25:98), Baker (26:24) and Chamberlain (28:09) in 1st, 2nd and 5th. Pan racked up a second victory in the 100 fly (1:02:38). Kotlyar (1:07:94) and sophomore Nisha Gudal (1:25:43) were 3rd and 5th, also scoring points for Huron. Continuing her strong season, Kiridena easily won the 100 free (55:49), followed by teammates Dittmar (59.59) in 2nd and St. Pierre (1:03:54) in 4th. The 500 free was a close race, with Aguirre (5:36:53) just a second off the podium. Chamberlain (5:53:47) and freshman Sara Mattson (6:49:46) were 3rd and 5th. Kiridena was 2nd in the 100 back (1:02:53), with Baker (1:09:92) and Dittmar (1:12:36) in 4th and 5th, while Captain Mattson, Riegger, and sophomore Alice Deng were 1st, 2nd and 5th in the 100 breast, adding 11 points to Huron s total. The Rats once again showed their impressive depth in the two Free Relays. In the 200 Free Relay, Huron teams scored 1, 2, 3, though only receiving points for the top two teams. These strong relays included: Captain Mattson, Kotlyar, Riegger, and Pan (1:47:64); Meader, Gargan, Stegemann, and Wang (1:56:33); and Katherine Wardner, St. Pierre, Deng and Lucy Moran (1:58:46). And in the final event of the evening, the 4 X 100 Free Relay, the Rats were 1st and 2nd, with swimmers Pan, Dittmar, Chamberlain, and Kiridena (3:53:73) in 1st and Baker, Kotlyar, Wang and Aguirre (4:04:24) in 2nd. On the diving board, senior and captain Madeline Woods continued to show her characteristic excellence and consistency. Undefeated this season in all 5 of Huron s dual meets, she took 1st with 217.55 points. Freshman Izzy Holcomb was also a standout, finishing 2nd with 191.50 points, and sophomore Georgia Plagens finished 4th with 172.60. 4 Rat Tales Newsletter

Huron Women s Swim & Dive Team Huron Aquatics Newsletter Salem Rock Maurer Invitational September 28th, 2013 Pictures by: Andrea Stanczyk Article by: Margaret Baker & Jillian Moreno Ann Arbor Huron brought twenty-four swimmers and divers to the 14th annual Salem Rock Mauer Invitational at Salem yesterday, Sept. 28th, and ended up a solid fourth with 170 points, just 26 behind 3rd place Salem. The other teams participating were host Farmington Hills Mercy, Canton, Livonia Stevenson, and Northville. An atypical swim meet, each heat is scored, 1st to 6th, and each event has four heats, accommodating the four top swimmers of each of the six teams represented. Top three finishes for Huron are as follows. In the opening event, the 200 Medley Relay, Huron s team of Shely Redding, Annabelle St. Pierre, Lucy Moran and Kirby Gardner tied Salem for 3rd (2:10:09). St. Pierre (2:36:10) and Anna Riegger (2:20:77) were each third in their respective heats of the 200 IM, while Adela Baker (27:08) and Captain Rachel Mattson (25:79) were each second in their 50 free heats. All three 200 Free Relay squads for the Rats were 3rd, consisting of Sarah Wang, Lynsey Kingma, Ani Weiss, and Gardner (1:58:54); Dany Kotlyar, Alice Deng, MaryClaire Chamberlain, and St. Pierre (1:55:10); and Captain Mattson, Abby Dittmar, Captain Samadhi Kiridena and Kathy Pan (1:45:05). Kiridena took 2nd in her 100 fly heat (1:01:58), while all four Huron breaststrokers scored high in the 100 Breast: St. Pierre (1:20:82); Kotlyar (1:12:50), and Pan (1:11:29) were all 2nd while Captain Mattson took the one 1st place finish of Huron s day (1:13:92) in her heat. The River Rats had an outstanding showing in diving, bringing home 4 medals with 1st place wins in two heats and 2nd places in two heats. Junior Katherine Wardner edged into her 1st place spot by.25 points with a 254.55 score. Senior Megan Meader handily won her heat with a final score of 288. Sophomore Georgia Plagens came in 2nd in her heat, diving for 294.75 points, while Freshman Izzy Holcomb took a strong second place in her heat with a score of 350.10, a full 71.10 points ahead of 3rd place. Holcomb was also third in the overall field, only behind two Farmington Hills Mercy seniors, so this was a remarkable accomplishment for the freshman diver. Congratulations go to all the swimmers and divers representing Huron, who also included Keri Haddrill, Sara Mattson, Katy Stegemann, and Anna Li Aguirre. Rat Tales Newsletter 5

Huron Women s Swim & Dive Team Huron vs Monroe October 3rd, 2013 Pictures by: Lori Riegger Article by: Margaret Baker & Jillian Moreno Ann Arbor Huron won their sixth dual meet victory at the Ratatorium with a 134-52 win over Monroe. The night opened with a 1st and 2nd place finish for Huron s 200 Medley Relay teams: Anna Li Aguirre, Kathy Pan, Captain Samadhi Kiridena, and Captain Rachel Mattson (1:57:10); Shely Redding, Annabelle St. Pierre, Anna Riegger, and Adela Baker (2:03:63). Monroe s Ally Smith took the 200 free (2:06:95), but only barely, as Mary Claire Chamberlain took 2nd (2:07:09), and Dany Kotlyar (2:13:04) finished 3rd. The 200 IM was strong for the Rats, with Mattson (2:27:55) in 1st, Alice Deng (2:30:86) in 2nd and Lucy Moran (2:36:69) in 4th, and the 50 free was also a big Huron point-getter, as Riegger (26.71), Aguirre (26.80) and freshman Kayley Smith (29.72) clocked in 1st, 2nd and 5th. Riegger continued on her roll for the evening, with a victory in the 100 fly (1:03:57), with Baker (1:06:07) and Sarah Wang (1:11:66) in the 2nd and 3rd spots, while Mattson (58:06), Aguirre (59:19) and Chamberlain (59:73) ranked 1st, 3rd and 4th in the 100 free. In the 500 free distance event, Kiridena (5:25:51), Kotlyar (5:59:60) and St. Pierre (6:07:77) came in 1, 2, 3; Pan (1:04:25), Redding (1:06:47) and Deng (1:14:84) were 1, 2, and 5 in the 100 backstroke, and St. Pierre (1:21:09), sophomore Kate Monnett (1:24:15) and Abby Dittmar (1:25:27) were 1st, 2nd and 4th in the 100 breast. Both Free Relays were victories for Huron. In the 200 free, Huron teams were 1,2,3, though by swim rules, only two scored points. These teams included: Kiridena, Baker, Mattson and Pan (1:43:83); Wang, sophomore Sarah Gargan, Chamberlain, and Dittmar (1:51:31); and diver Georgia Plagens, freshmen Katy Stegemann & Lynsey Kingma and Moran (1:57:02). The final event of the evening, the 400 FR, Huron s A took gold (Riegger, Baker, Chamberlain and Aguirre in 3:55:19), with their B garnering a bronze (freshman Kirby Gardner, Deng, Moran and Kotylar in 4:15:26). In the 1 meter Diving Event, Senior/Captain Madeline Woods remains undefeated with her win at the meet. Her score of 230.90 was a personal best for this year. Freshman Izzy Holcomb took third place with a score of 205.45. Personal best scores were hit by three other River Rat divers: sophomore Georgia Plagens scored 181.40 for 5th, Senior Meghan Meader scored 170.10 for 6th, and freshman Tori Hood took 7th with 126.00 points. 6 Rat Tales Newsletter

Huron Women s Swim & Dive Team Huron Aquatics Newsletter Dexter Freshman/Sophomore Invite October 5th, 2013 Pictures by: Lori Riegger Article by: Margaret Baker Eight teams gathered on Saturday, October 5th, at Dexter s Wylie Community Pool for the 24th Annual Freshman/Sophomore meet. While the overall meet was not scored, medals were awarded for top 8 finishes (relays) and top 12 (individual events). Ann Arbor Huron medaled in all but one event, starting out the meet with a 3rd place finish in the 200 Medley Relay by swimmers Anna Riegger, Kathy Pan, Adela Baker and Abby Dittmar (1:59:76). Pan won the 200 IM (2:14:82), with Baker, swimming the event for the first time ever in competition finishing 8th (2:34:56), and Dittmar (2:38:70), 10th. Sophomore Sarah Gargan was 10th (28:73) in the 50 free, while fellow sophomore Annabelle St. Pierre (29:09), missed the medal stand by just one place, finishing 13th. Riegger was 3rd in the 100 Fly (1:04:84), and Dittmar, 7th in the 100 Free (1:00:33). Freshman Kirby Gardner (1:03:83), was 13th in the event, only one place shy of the podium. In the 500 Free, Baker was 8th (5:46:88), and another all-sophomore squad (Riegger, Ani Weiss, Nisha Gudal, and St. Pierre) was 8th in the 200 Free Relay (1:58:79). In the 100 Back, Pan was 3rd (1:04:95), with sophomore Alice Deng (1:14:36) in 12th, while Riegger, with another stellar performance, was 3rd in the 100 Breast (1:13:41), followed by teammate St. Pierre (1:23:15) in a tie for 12th. In the final event of the meet, the 400 Free Relay, Huron s Dittmar, Baker, Deng and Pan cruised to a 5th place finish (4:03:09), finishing up a promising day for the young Rats. Huron Women s Swim & Dive Team Huron vs Adrian October 10th, 2013 Article by: Margaret Baker & Jillian Moreno Even though Ann Arbor Huron won only four of the eleven swimming events in last night s meet at Adrian, they still came out on top, 102-84, a tribute to the depth of this team. Uncharacteristically, the Rats didn t score a first place victory until Event 8, when junior Anna Li Aguirre came out on top of the 500 free (5:41:40). Freshman Lynsey Kingma also earned a point in the distance event with her 5th place finish (6:24:72). The A and B 200 Free Relay teams scored 1st and 2nd, featuring Captain Rachel Mattson, and sophomores Anna Riegger, Adela Baker and Kathy Pan (1:45:00), and Juniors Shely Redding, Dany Kotlyar, and Mary Claire Chamberlain, with freshman Katy Stegemann (1:50:67), and putting 12 points on the board for Huron. Captain Samadhi Kiridena easily took the top spot in the 100 back (1:02:12), with sophomore Abby Dittmar finishing 5th (1:11:62). Pan won the 100 Breast (1:10:37), followed by 2nd place Sarah Wang (1:17:67) and 5th place sophomore Kate Monnett (1:25:46). And while Pan was edged out of her dominance in the 200 IM, coming in 2nd (2:15:63), teammates Kotlyar (2:26:60) in 3rd and Wang in 4th (2:30:78) gave Huron the edge for points in the event. And in three events, Huron s depth enabled them to keep pace with the strong Adrian squad, even without taking first place. These events were the 200 Free with Aguirre (2:07:79) in 2nd, Mattson (2:07:81) in 3rd, and senior Lucy Moran (2:17:62) in 5th; the 100 Fly, with Riegger (1:03:16) in 2nd, followed by Kotlyar (1:07:64) in 3rd and Moran (1:14:03) in 5th; and the 50 free, Kiridena (25:31) in 2nd, Baker (27.14) in 3rd, and Chamberlain (28.44) in 5th. Huron Divers contributed a mighty 13 points to the Rats total, scoring a remarkable hat trick for the night, with divers finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Captain and Senior Madeline Woods continued her unbroken winning streak with 223.50 points. Freshman Izzy Holcomb secured her 2nd place finish with 195.55, while Senior Meghan Meader finished 3rd with a score of 161.20, solidifying her place with excellent execution of Dive 5124D, a forward somersault with 2 twists that earned her 31.05 points. 8 Rat Tales Newsletter
