This guide contains important information for 2018. Dance Lab Competition Dates Students that are not available for all competitions WILL be removed from troupe team. This is a TEAM commitment. We will have exact dates/times closer to the competitions. Dance Lab Summer School - TBC January Term 1 Monday 29 th January Thursday 29 th March February Saturday 17 th & Sunday 18 th - Vic Dance Festival March Saturday 11 th All Classes including Troupe classes will run as normal (Labour Day weekend) Monday 12 th March - Somerville Family Day Troupe and Solo Performance (not compulsory) Sunday 25 th March Together We Dance Good Friday Appeal (not compulsory) During School Holiday s Moe Dance Eisteddfod, Jump Challenge, In Motion, Stage Attack for Solo Dates TBC. Normal classes on Saturday 3 rd and Monday 5 th Choreographic Competitions: Cechetti October Date to be Confirmed (If no clash with troupe classes SFD October Date to be Confirmed (If no clash with troupe classes Please note Classes run and is compulsory for troupe members to attend the Saturday weekend class before public holidays. Troupe learning days MUST not be missed. They MUST be a priority over extra dance programs.

Solo s, Duo s and Trios Solo Conditions Must have regular fortnightly lessons Must be responsible for own music at competition Acro tricks will not be permitted in solos if student doesn't attend regular Acro classes at Dance Lab. This is for your child's safety. Song choice and genre of routine/s is the teacher s choice Students must attend 90% of technical classes to be invited into solo performance program. Students must attend minimum classical class requirements to qualify and the class/s of genre of solo. Students performing Ballet solos must attend the invite ballet class. It is recommended all competition students attend invite ballet class. All costuming must be approved by emailing dancelab.info@gmail.com. Parents to check emails regularly as ALL communications are sent by email. Cancellation policy 24hrs or medical certificate supplied. If a student/parent decides to not continue training or commitment with Dance Lab ALL Solos/Duos/Trios remain property of Dance Lab and items must not be performed anywhere from exit date. Please note that from 2019, students that are not members of our troupe team, will be offered solos on a case by case situation as per Miss Emily only. It is an expectation that soloists are a part of our troupe teams, this is to build community spirit and team support within the studio. Cost $30 per 30min class. This is payable to the teacher at the beginning of lesson. Price will change as of 2018. Cost of $25 will be for the remainder of 2017 Timetable Private lesson times are allocated at the beginning of each term. We spend many hours working out the best times for students, however spaces are limited. Lessons are offered fortnightly. Students with 5 or more solo s may be offered a 45min lesson fortnightly. Times may change each term. Please note new solo s may require extra time. Attire for Class Students are expected to be dressed following the Dance Lab guidelines. Including hair in a bun. Can t make your private lesson? Please get the contact details of the family your sharing the lesson with and try to swap. If you are unable to swap, please contact Emily dancelab.info@gmail.com, 24 hrs notice must be given or a no-show fee of $30 will be added to your account. A medical certificate is required to have fee waived. Competitions Entries You are responsible for your child s entries. Information for main competitions are emailed. Please read the rules carefully, as each competition is different. Please check your email and the notice board regularly. If you choose to compete outside the standard Dance Lab competitions, approval must be given by Miss Emily prior to entry into the competition. Individual competitions that conflict with troupe or concert rehearsal may not compete unless Miss Emily has given permission. Soloists that enter extra competitions enter the risk of not being able to perform if clashes with troupe commitments. Costumes All costumes and are an additional cost to student/family. (to be organized by student/family) All designs and colours, must be approved by Miss Emily ONLY via email dancelab.info@gmail.com. If costumes are to be ordered via Dance Lab min $50 deposits is required prior to ordering. Music Students will be given 1 x copy of their music. If you require extra copies of your music cost is $5 per CD. Please make extra copies do not use re recordable disc s. Music must be in WAV format. Student must bring music to each lesson, it can be on a ipod/ipad It is the student s responsibility to take and submit music at each competition, this must be on CD, ipod or USB, please check as all completions are different.

Troupes General Information It is a privilege to be invited to do troupes. Students must dance in their age group, before older troupes. Students/Parents can t pick. Students agree to be available for the entire lesson time and for extra rehearsal time when required Take care of costumes any losses or damages are charged to students account. Arrive at competitions with hair and makeup done. Arrive on time Wear Dance Lab Tracksuit / Uniform must be worn with pride to and from competition/dance events. Students must attend a minimum of 90% of all technical classes (Jazz, Ballet & Tap) and all troupe rehearsals. Failure to do so, may result in student being removed. If you are unable to commit to attend all 3 Dance Lab competitions listed unfortunately troupes will be not an option for you, No exceptions. If the team is let down other than for medical reasons (please supply Medical certificate) the student will be withdrawn from all troupe and/or solo/duo/trio commitments indefinitely Any prior arrangements must be made with Miss Emily and confirmed in writing (dancelab.info@gmail.com) prior to signing troupe agreement due by 16th September. Ballet Troupe Students must do invite ballet lesson. It is recommended all competition students attend invite ballet class. Students must attend minimum classical class requirements to qualify and the class/s of genre of troupe. Troupe entries and music for competitions are looked after by Miss Emily. Classical Ballet troupes are to wear matte ribbons on shoes. Photos and DVD s of our troupes are used for advertising ie Facebook, Yellow Pages and Newsletters. Parents to check email regularly as ALL communications are sent by email. If a student/parent decides to not continue training or commitment with Dance Lab ALL troupe costumes are hired and are property of Dance Lab and must be returned within 1 week of exiting. If a student/parent decides they are unable to compete in a competition (except for injury or illness), after signing troupe agreement, the risk will be the removal of all troupe items for the year and private lesson/solos privileges withdrawn. If your commitment changes due to any circumstances except injury or illness Medical Cert to be Supplied, a the below exit fee s apply Exit fee - $100 plus costume costs - Term 4-2017 or Term 1-2018 Exit fee - $200 plus costume costs - Term 2 or 3-2018. Acro Conditions Acro tricks in troupes, will only be performed by students that attend regular Acro classes at Dance Lab. This is for your child's safety. (This does not include private tuition outside the studio) Cost $33.00 per troupe classes per term. Unlimited Troupes - 7 plus Troupes $231 per term Troupe entry fees approx. $2-$5 per troupe item per competition. Costumes Hire fee - $33 - $38.50 per costume. Troupe Shoes We do have compulsory shoe brands/tights for Troupes. A list will be issued Term 1-2018. These are to be provided by families at their expense. Attire for Class Students are expected to be dressed following the Dance Lab guidelines. Including hair in a bun. Can t make your lesson? Please contact Emily dancelab.info@gmail.com, students are required to give 24 hrs notice if missing class. A medical certificate is required if under 24 hrs. If troupe students continue to miss classes, the student may be removed from troupes.

Costume Care Costume sets cost thousands of dollars and are sometimes not replaceable. 1 x lost costume/head piece may result in a whole set needing to be replaced at your expense if lost. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THEM and check items after each comp. Troupe Tutus will not be handed out to go home in 2018, they are taken to competitions for you. All of the costumes for 2018 Troupes are hired. Some of the costumes may need a few repairs. Please read the following information carefully. Please let Emily know if your hired costume is damaged or marked upon receiving, hang all costumes in a suit protector bag. We do not make spares; please look after your costumes, missing items may result in not performing. Keep costumes away from little fingers and paws. Accidents can happen and there are no spares. Do not iron costumes unless instructed to most fabrics contain lycra and other synthetic materials. Costumes are not to be worn in the car, nor squashed in a bag. Please bring costumes hanging in a DANCE LAB suit protector bag, Costumes may be hemmed by hand (NOT MACHINE) DO NOT CUT ANY COSTUMES Costumes may need the straps adjusted, please adjust to the required position at the back of the costume; please do by hand sewing only. Do not leave safety pins in costumes as they can rust PLEASE DO NOT WRITE YOUR NAMES ON THE COSTUMES IF UNSURE CHECK WITH EMILY. Hair & Make Up Hair styles for each competition will be advised on check list, provided prior to each competition. Please ensure that hair is well lacquered, with no fluffy ends coming out. ALL Students in troupes must wear eyelashes and Diamante earrings. Make-up: Heavy base foundation and Powder, Dark Brown eye shadow on lower eyelids and White eye shadow on top of eyelid, up to eyebrow. Black Liquid eyeliner on top of eyelid, above eyelashes, with a small flick continuing towards the eyebrow. Black eyeliner under ½ the eye, with flick at end. White Eye liner under eye and between side flicks. Black Mascara, pencil in eyebrows in suitable colour. Blush or Bronzer to Cheek Bones. Line lips with RED, lip liner and fill with Revlon Colourstay RED lipstick #50 Top Tomato. Please remember stage lights are very bright and The Darker the Better.
