1 Point A Competition Company MISSION: The Point A School of Dance is dedicated to dance education for the developing young dancer ages 4 to 18. We will offer guidance through proper dance technique as well as individual attention and respect towards each student. Our philosophy is focused on instilling a passion for dance while also building confidence and poise in every child. We also promote positive group interactions and cooperation with others while providing a fun, structured physical activity in a positive atmosphere. We strive to be on the cutting edge of the dance world, bringing fresh and fun choreography while exploring the artistic side of dance. Our main goal is to inspire growth and passion in each dancer while providing them with a creative outlet. The Point A School of Dance is for a dancer that is more committed and serious than the recreational level. GOALS: To efficiently train dancers with modern or hip hop based technique while incorporating musicality. To develop a truly versatile dancer that can seamlessly transition between dance genres. To instill a depth of performance that will consistently move an audience. PERFORMANCE TRACKS: New for Point A School of Dance is the umbrella school for three unique performance or competitive companies. Dancers may participate in one or all three companies, depending on time and cost commitment. Tuition discounts are available to dancers participating in more than one performance track. Performances: 1 Competition, 1 Showcase CONTEMPORARY COMPANY For the dancer who wants to expand their contemporary and ballet technique. This company will focus on the artistry of dance. This is a very special opportunity for the dancers to work personally with a professional, instead of in a crowded room at a convention. Tuition: $90 (Option for them to choreograph: $250 or higher, depending on the choreographer) Competition Fee: (Withdrawn on December 1st) We will attend 2 regional competitions. Solos and Duo/Trios can attend as many competitions as they would like. Competition Company and Contemporary Company offer a combined discount. To calculate this, take the corresponding Competition Company tuition and add $20 per month. Here are other examples: Suzie Q: First Hip Hop Crew ($72) and 2 Routines in Competition Company 3 ($140) = $212 per month Suzie R: 2 Routines in Competition Co 3 ($140) and Contemporary Co ($20) = $160 per month Suzie S: First HH Crew ($72), 2 Routines in Comp Co 3 ($140) and Contemp Co ($20) = $232 per month ADDITIONAL ROUTINES (SOLO/DUO/TRIO) POLICY In order to ensure quality routines, the following are guidelines for additional routines. If a dancer has taken a solo to competition before, they may skip one bullet down. These guidelines are for a maximum, not all routines need to be filled. Final decisions regarding additional routines are at the Director's discretion. First Year Competing with Competition Company: - Group Routines only. No additional routines. Second Year Competing with Competition Company: - 1 Duo/Trio Third Year Competing with Competition Company: - 1 Solo, 1 Duo/Trio Fourth Year Competing with Competition Company: - 3 Additional Routines (Any Combination of Solos/Duos/Trios) Fifth Year or Longer Competing with Competition: - 4 Additional Routines (Any Combination of Solos/Duos/Trios) Other Requirements for Additional Routines: Dancers may use any choreographer they wish, but that choreographer cannot be a director of another competition program. Dancers may work with their choreographer anytime between July and December. Starting in January, dancers must rehearse their additional routines with a member of Point A Faculty for 30 minutes, once a week at a cost of $10 per session. This ensures proper rehearsal and preparation for competition.
