Happy Friday WCV MS Families Lohse s Lowdown 9/8/17 Edition # 3 West Central Valley School District prepares students for success. D.R.E.A.M Dedicated to meet challenges Responsible for learning Empowered to lead Achieve excellence Motivated to succeed Happy Friday! Four more days in the books and all is well and good at the middle school. I think the routines are starting to kick in for the 6 th graders and I am even starting to wake up before my early alarm clock goes off (not sure if I like that though). Lots of good things again happening here at WCV that the Lowdown will catch you up with
First, a quick reminder that there is a 12:30 early dismissal scheduled for this Wednesday, September 13 th. During our professional development time this month the teachers and administrators will be working k-12 with an organization called MISIC on our state standard alignment and preparing for new state initiatives. We will be working hard to get better for our kids! A quick reminder as well that WCV School board elections are this upcoming Tuesday, September 12 th Today we are having our first PBIS assembly of the year. What is PBIS you might be asking? Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports is the fancy way of saying it. The better way of saying it is focusing on the good over the bad. We concentrate our efforts as a whole school on the positive behaviors that our kids show each and every day. We know kids want attention, whether it negative or positive I for one would prefer that they look for it in positive ways. Kids always respond better to praise than criticism. Have fun and reward kids for acting right rather than yelling and disciplining makes more sense to me. We have seen over the years that this approach works. As a principal it is awesome. I have very few discipline issues that I need to handle because our teachers and other adults work with our kids in positive ways and make learning engaging and enjoyable. We have these assemblies about once a month and it is a blast.
We just received this notice please be aware of this inconvenience. F60 (Old Highway 6) will be closed south of Redfield at the bridge over the South Raccoon River beginning September 18th. Dallas County has contracted with Jasper Construction Services to perform repairs to the bridge. The road will be closed to all traffic during the project and is expected to reopen early November, depending on weather. Please follow the marked detour routes of F59 and P48 through Redfield and Dexter. P58 will also be marked as an alternative route to and from Interstate 80. Questions about this project may be directed to the Dallas County Road Department at 515-993-4289 Friday Night Lights Go Cats! Tonight is our first home varsity football game. It is an exciting time of year. Coach Addy is confident about this game but needs our support. We d love to see as many of the middle schoolers at the game as possible cheering on the Wildcats. I emphasis CHEERING ON THE WILDCATS. That means we are not running around chasing our friends or throwing things around. We are in middle school now and our maturity and behavior should show that. We have a middle school section that we sit in on the far side of the bleachers above the band. I d love to see us rocking the stands with our cheers tonight. GO CATS!
