LAST TIME OUT Alysha Womack tied her career high with 27 points as the Hawks knocked off league-leading Sacred Heart, 70-50, Monday night at the MAC. Freshman forward Erika Livermore is second on the team at 11.0 points per game to go along with a team-best 7.0 rebounds per game. Danielle Pankey provides a third scoring option at 10.8 points per game. The Knights defense has held opponents to the second-lowest field-goal percentage (.362) in the league, despite allowing the second-highest three-point field goal percentage (.329) in the NEC. Buoying the Knights interior defense have been Livermore, Desiree Crawford, Esther Wallace and Torrie Childs, all of whom average at least one block per game en route to the Knights NEC-leading 5.13 blocks per game. ALL-TIME SERIES VS. FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON The Hawks have played the Knights more often than any other team in program Division I history, with Monmouth taking a 41-20 lead in the all-time series. Junior Alysha Womack stands 29 points shy of 1,000 for her Monmouth career, while senior Alexis Canady is 104 points away. Just 14 players in Monmouth s Division I history have reached the 1,000-point plateau, with just four (Michelle Cappadona, Amanda Rosato, Michelle Allen, Linda Wilson) reaching the mark by the end of their junior seasons. SERIOUSLY? SHE S NEVER WON IT BEFORE NOW? Alysha Womack was named the Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week for the first time in her career after averaging 23.0 points per game on 60 percent shooting (18-30) against league leaders Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac. The two-time All-NEC Second Team selection earned 2010 NEC Rookie of the Year as a freshman, but had never been honored as NEC Player of the Week prior to Feb. 7, 2012. RUNNING SHU OUT OF THE GYM The Hawks started the second half against Sacred Heart on a 14-0 run, turning a one-point deficit at the half into a 13-point lead. Sacred Heart got no closer than nine points the rest of the way. The Hawks held the Pioneers to just 21.7 percent shooting (5-23) in the second half, and kept SHU without a point for the first 6:37 of the period, another 4:57 in the middle portion of the stanza, and without a field goal for the final 6:02 of regulation. sticky talons Led by three steals apiece from Gena Broadus, Alexis Canady and Betsy Gadziala, Monmouth made a season-high 15 steals against Sacred Heart on Feb. 6. Alysha Womack and Gabby Singer added two thefts apiece, while Abby Martin and Chevannah Paalvast added one steal each. half ain t bad Monmouth shot 51.0 percent (25-49) from the floor against Sacred Heart, the second time the Hawks have eclipsed 50 percent this season. Leading the way was Alysha Womack, who made 78.6 percent (11-14) of her shots against the Pioneers. martin s matching numbers Abby Martin went for 12 points and 12 rebounds on Feb. 4 against Quinnipiac, signifying the junior forward s third double-double of the year and the eighth of her career. Big shot womack Alysha Womack hit a pair of big shots in the final minute of the Hawks 59-56 road win at Central Connecticut on Jan. 30. Womack knocked down a jumper with her toe on the three-point arc with 31 seconds remaining to tie the game at 56-56, before calmly nailing the game-winning three-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining. flying back into the game Despite trailing by 12 points, 36-24, early in the second half on Jan. 30 at Central Connecticut, the Hawks overcame the deficit to defeat the Blue Devils, 59-56, in regulation. Alysha Womack led the way with 13 second-half points, including the game-winning three-pointer with 1.2 seconds left. Alexis Canady also scored eight second-half points, including a pair of three-pointers. WE RE GOING STREAKING THROUGH THE QUAD and to the gymnasium. With wins over Robert Morris and Saint Francis (Pa.), the Hawks ran their winning streak to eight games, tying last year s squad for the longest winning streak the program has seen since the 1993-94 season. The streak was snapped Jan. 28 at Bryant. In 93-94, from January 8 to February 10, MU won 10 straight contests. In the 1986-87 season, the Hawks had winning streaks of 10 games in a row twice, and finished perfect in Northeast Conference play at 16-0. The second streak ran to 11 games with a win to open the 1987-88 season. The longest winning streak in program history came in 1985-86, when the Hawks ran off 13 straight victories.

reduced to a flicker Following an 82-69 defeat to the Saint Francis (Pa.) Red Flash on Dec. 5, the Hawks turned the tables with a 66-45 victory over Saint Francis on Jan. 23. Monmouth forced 22 Red Flash turnovers while committing just 10 giveaways on the night. GETTING DEFENSIVE The Hawks held opponents to just 52.0 points per game in their recent eight-game winning streak. In a stretch of five wins against Villanova, Wagner, Mount St. Mary s and LIU Brooklyn, opponents averaged 48.6 points per game while shooting just 33.1 percent (88-266) from the floor. MR. BELDING APPROVED Alexis A.C. Canady has been a catalyst in the Hawks 13 victories this season, contributing 10.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in the wins. CARLY three-bault Carly Thibault has made a team-best 40.2 percent (41-102) from long range this season, including 5-of-7 in the season opener against UMBC on Nov. 13. PURE PERFECTION Carly Thibault shot a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor, including 4-for-4 from long range, in scoring a game-high 14 points in the Hawks victory at LIU Brooklyn on Jan. 14. The junior guard opened the season shooting 49.0 percent (24-49) but suffered through a 2-for-23 (.087) stretch in the following seven games. Her 15-for-30 performance in the last eight games push her season percentage to a team-best 40.2 percent (41-102). she s baaaaaaaaaack If Alysha Womack s 22 points at St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 16 didn t pronounce her fully back to speed from a knee injury that claimed the season s first 11 games, her career-high 27 points on 7-for-11 shooting, 2-for-3 from long range and 11-for-13 from the free-throw against Robert Morris on Jan. 21 line surely did. Her previous career high was 25, achieved twice in her first two seasons in the Blue and White. thibault mania Carly Thibault made 11 of 12 attempts (.917) from the floor, covering three games against LIU Brooklyn, St. Francis (N.Y.) and Robert Morris. Included in the mark were 8-of-9 three-point attempts (.889). CHANEL NO. 35 Senior forward/center Chanel Gomez returned to the line-up Jan. 14 at LIU Brooklyn and returned to form Jan. 21 against Robert Morris. In just eight minutes played against the Colonials, Gomez was a difference maker with six points, four rebounds and two steals. not playing like reserves Led by Alysha Womack s 27 points and nine more from Carly Thibault, the Monmouth bench produced a season-high 47 points against Robert Morris on Jan. 21. The duo did their damage while shooting a combined 10-of-14 (.714) from the floor and 4-of-5 from long range (.800). The game prior, Womack and Thibault combined for all of Monmouth s 30 bench points, then a season high. TURNOVER TURNABOUT The Hawks scored a season-high 28 points off turnovers, Jan. 16 at St. Francis (N.Y.), while holding the Terriers to seven points off their own turnovers, second only to the six points off turnovers that Monmouth held Lafayette to in victory on Nov. 27. do your hawks have large talons? The hot shooting propelled Monmouth from an eight-point deficit to a 14-point edge. GENA GENA BROADUS BROADUS Senior forward Gena Broadus compiled her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Jan. 14 at LIU Brooklyn. The numbers were one off of Broadus career highs of 14 points last season against Columbia and 12 rebounds last season at Marquette. NO FLY ZONE While the Hawks were shooting 67.9 percent (19-28) in the second half against LIU Brooklyn on Jan. 14, Monmouth was also playing stifling defense on the Blackbirds. The Hawks held LIU to just 32.0 percent (8-25) in the second half to hand the Blackbirds their first home loss in eight tries this season. Of those eight made field goals, five came in the final minutes, when MU had established a double-digit advantage. The Monmouth defense held LIU to just 15.8 percent (3-19) in more than 14 minutes to open the second half. Included in the effort were two stretches of nearly five minutes in which LIU was held without a made field goal. Monster performance Abby Martin compiled her second double-double fo the season with 22 points and 14 rebounds against Mount St. Mary s on Jan. 9. The juinor forward made 9-of- 18 attempts from the floor and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. Martin pulled down eight defensive rebounds and battled for six offensive caroms. THUNDER FROM DOWN UNDER Chevannah Paalvast scored in double figures in four of five games, Dec. 29-Jan. 14, all Monmouth victories, after establishing a previous season high of eight points. Paalvast averaged a team-high 13.0 points per game during the Hawk Holiday Classic. She doubled her previous season high with 16 points, also eclipsing her previous career high of 11 points, in a 69-62 victory over Norfolk State on Dec. 29. She then connected for 10 points, including several clutch shots against Villanova on Dec. 30. She also blocked three shots on the two-day tournament. The New Zealand native then scored 10 points against Wagner on Jan. 7 and added 12 points at LIU Brooklyn on Jan. 14. Paalvast s previous season high of eight points came at East Carolina, while her previous career high of 11 points came last season against Quinnipiac. BENEFICIAL BENCH Led by Alysha Womack s 17 points and nine more from Betsy Gadziala, the Monmouth bench scored a then-season-high 29 points against Mount St. Mary s on Jan. 9. WHOA-MACK Alysha Womack is blossoming in her return from injury, as evidenced by her 17-point performance against Mount St. Mary s on Jan. 9. In her fourth game since returning from a knee injury, Womack connected on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH Betsy Gadziala narrowly missed her first-career double-double with nine points and a career-high 10 rebounds, Jan. 9 against Mount St. Mary s. The junior forward efficiently knocked down 4-of-7 attempts from the floor and made 1-of-2 free throws. She also dished out three assists in the 59-52 victory. Balanced Attack Six Hawks scored at least eight points in Monmouth s 65-42 victory over Wagner on Jan. 7. Alexis Canady led the way with 15 points, while Chevannah Paalvast added 10 points. Betsy Gadziala, Alysha Womack and Shira Shecht contributed nine points apiece, while Gena Broadus had eight points.

GAD-WOW-A In nine games started this season, Betsy Gadziala has rewarded Coach Jenny Palmateer for her confidence. Gadziala averaged 9.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals while shooting 46.3 percent (37-80) in 27.4 minutes per game. Gadziala scored 11 points and added six rebounds in 30 minutes to help the Hawks to a 75-73 victory over Lehigh on Nov. 25, before adding a career-high 14 points and six rebounds on 7-of-11 shooting against Lafayette on Nov. 27. Gadziala matched her career-highs of 14 points and six rebounds on 6-of-11 shooting at Robert Morris on Dec. 3, before setting a new career best with eight rebounds against Winthrop. On Dec. 17, Gadziala scored a career-high 16 points at Manhattan. BIG WIN VS. BIG EAST The Hawks earned their first win against a Big East team since 1987 when they defeated Villanova on Dec. 30. With the 49-48 victory against the Wildcats in the Hawk Holiday Classic Championship, Monmouth defeated a Big East team for the first time since taking down Georgetown on Dec. 1, 1987. The Hawks are now 6-40 since the 1982-83 season against current Big East teams, including two wins each against Villanova and Seton Hall, as well as one each against Georgetown and Connecticut. The Hawks held the Wildcats to a season-low 28.6 percent (16-56) from the floor. A.C. - Another Championship, Another MVP Alexis Canady was named the 2011 Hawk Holiday Classic MVP for the second time after leading Monmouth to its second tournament title in the three-year history of the event. The senior floor general averaged 11.0 points per game in wins over Norfolk State and Villanova.
