HEALTH & SAFETY The main phases f the installatin f a tank are: Unlading & maneuvring the tank Grund wrks t prepare the grund fr the installatin f the tank and assciated drainage and service-duct runs Installatin and cnnectin f the tank All Health & Safety precautins applying t such wrks are t be implemented, with risk assessments and methd statements (examples attached) being prepared. UNLOADING THE TANK 1. Tank transprtatin t site is nrmally arranged by the supplier wh will crdinate assciated arrangements with site persnnel. Warning 2. Respnsibility fr the tank passes t the buyer nce unlading cmmences; it is therefre imprtant that the buyer accepts the cnditin f the tank n arrival befre they attempt t manhandle the tank (nt recmmended), mve it with machinery such as frk-lift arms, r attach lifting equipment. Warning 3. The Tanks are designed t be lifted and maneuvred nly when empty; they are nt therefre t be lifted when cntaining water under any circumstances as this will add cnsiderable weight. 4. It is recmmended that the tanks be unladed frm delivery lrries, mved arund site, and lwered int their installed psitin by attaching lifting chains and apprpriately sized D-shackles t the lifting pints prvided, r by use f lifting straps arund the whle tank; pints t nte are: As the centre f lift may nt cincide with the centre f gravity f the tank, sme initial swing shuld be anticipated; this must be stabilised befre the tank is mved further Similarly, the chain lengths selected may nt result in the tank establishing a true hrizntal psitin nce lifted clear f the transprt; if s, the tank shuld be relwered and the chain lengths adjusted accrdingly T stabilise the lad when mving arund site, guide-rpes shuld be attached t the chains, enabling peratives t cntrl the lad frm a safe distance 5. Example risk assessments and methd statements are attached cvering the abve activities. Warning 6. These examples are nt site-specific and must be replaced with their site-specific equivalents befre assciated wrk is undertaken.

INSTALLING THE TANK General Infrmatin 7. These instructins are designed t cver the cmplete range f tanks which cme in a range f nine cnvenient sizes frm 1,800-litres t 10,000-litres. The instructins relate t the handling and installatin f the tank nly, with any additinal fitments requested being the respnsibility f the buyer. 8. The tanks have been specifically designed t act as rainwater strage tanks; the tank is designed t be installed in accrdance with the instructins belw, taking additinal precautins nly in the special circumstances identified in the fllwing table: Exceptinal Cnditins Grund heavy clay High water table Traffic bearing Adjacent bank/raised pati Adjacent fundatins (2) Nn-standard install depth Added Precautins Required Minimum cver f 1m Minimum cver f 1m Apprved (1) arrangements Apprved arrangements Apprved arrangements Apprved arrangements Warnings 9. If site persnnel are faced with any f the cnditins nted in the table abve, they shuld seek supervisry advice befre cmmencing tank installatin. 10. The tank is designed t take pedestrian and light mwer lading nly, with a burial depth f between 700-mm and 1400-mm frm the crwn f the tank t finished grund level. The telescpic dme and neck extensin are adjustable within limits t assist with the finishingff prcess. 11. The custmer may, if wished, substitute their wn brick-cnstructin manhle and cver prvided these are s cnstructed that they d nt transfer any weight nt the bdy f the tank. 12. Pipe-falls must be a minimum f 1:100 in the directin f water-flw, ie rainwater pipe and service duct twards the tank, and the verflw away frm the tank External Wrks 13. The installatin f the rainwater strage tank, and its cnnectin t the water-supply, water-verflw and service-duct pipes shuld be undertaken at the same time as the verall undergrund wrks fr the prject.

14. The tank shuld be aligned t prvide the straightest pssible service duct run between the tank and the Cntrl Unit as ther pipe-wrk and cabling etc need t be fed thrugh this duct at a later stage; the figure belw shws this ideal relatinship. Warnings 15. The tank must be handled and installed strictly in accrdance with the instructins prvided t site; nce installed, the psitin f the tank is t be clearly marked and ver-driving by vehicles within 4-metres f a tank edge is strictly frbidden. Step-by-Step Guide 16. The fllwing is a step-by-step guide t the installatin f the tank when n added precautins (as identified in the Table abve) need t be taken: Arrangements shuld be made fr the tank t be delivered, cincident with the day it is due t be installed; with this in mind, when delivery is expected ensure: Suitable access and parking arrangements have been made fr the delivery vehicle Plant is available t unlad the tank A clear rute has been designated between the delivery vehicle and the installatin site A risk assessment and methd statement fr unlading and maneuvring the tank have been prepared and signed-ff The installatin site is level and clear f bstacles and site debris and, ideally: The water ingress pipewrk is cmplete and ready fr cnnectin The water verflw pipewrk is cmplete, ready fr cnnectin, and is itself cnnected t the surface water management system (sakaway, strm-drain r attenuatin as apprpriate) The service duct is ready fr cnnectin Befre starting the installatin, cnfirm n added precautins (see Table abve) apply; ie, there is n requirement t: Install in heavy clay (in which case minimum cver ver tank bdy f 1-metre Install in a high water table (in which case, again, 1-metre f cver) Carry the weight f vehicular traffic (in which case structural engineer s design required) Clser than 4-metres t adjacent fundatins (structural engineer needed)
