Joanne Kokalj President July - August 2013 Rockin' Times Hotline 773.467.0177 * E-mail: cwcjc@jitterbugchicago.com * Website: www.jitterbugchicago.com As you read this newsletter we will all be at Sweet Home Chicago. Or perhaps if your mail is really slow, we could all be at home recovering from a very long weekend. Sweet Home Chicago is great fun and it is also a lot of work. I want to say a great big thank you to the entire board for all of the time and effort that they have put into our event this year. I also want to thank Mike and Debbe Lapina and Gloria Medel for all that they do to make this a successful and fun weekend. Summer is finally here and it s time for our annual picnic. This year it takes place on July 28th at Pottawatomie Park. We will be having BBQ on Wheels cater the picnic again this year; if you were with us last year then you know they have really good picnic food. Bill will again be playing his best picnic music and Linda will be running her egg toss and water balloon games. It is always a fun day, so save the date and come on out and join us. See the flyer inside for details. On Saturday, August 3rd, we will be having our annual open board meeting. This is an opportunity for you to come and express your ideas, complaints or just ask questions. The decisions that we make are influenced by what we hear from you so please take the time to come to this meeting. On Saturday, August 17th, Mike Hartman will be our guest DJ for oldies night. This is always a fun dance and of course we get to hear all of that great music from the 50s and 60s. With summer now here I just want to remind everyone that we have a no shorts policy, shorts are considered anything that is above the knee. In this newsletter is the annual profit and loss statement for the club, please take the time to look this over as this is our annual accounting of the club s money. If you should have any questions please see our Treasurer, Janet Campeotto at one of the dances. Finally, I want to say a great big thank you to our 1st Vice-President, Ralph Dahma. Ralph has chosen not to run for office again and will leave the board on June 30th. While he is leaving the board he will certainly be around at the dances and of course has offered his help to the board whenever we may need it. Our meetings won t be the same without him, he has a very quick wit and he can be really funny not to mention that he has more ideas than all the rest of us put together. And, it is all of those ideas that has led him to leave the board, so that he can go on and pursue some new interests. On behalf of all of the members, thank you for the 5½ years that you have given to the club. continued on page 2

Wednesday, June 19th was a sad day for CWCJC. Founding board member, Frank Orseno passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. While many of our newer members may not have known Frank personally, I know that if you did, you would have liked him. I will miss him and I will miss the big bear hug he gave me every time he came to the dance. Frank loved the jitterbug club and the music from the 50s and 60s. When one of those great oldies is being played at the dance, I am sure many of us will think of Frank, he will surely be missed by all of his friends. See you at the dance, Joanne MAY 2013 RECAP May 8, 2013 Meeting: Ending April 30th balances - Checking Account $13,984.23 (Does not include CCCC Invoice), Money Market Account $11,889.64, 25th BD Account $5,601.87. First Vice President Ralph Dahma has decided not to seek re-election. The Sales Director position remains vacant, with Mary Pat handling those duties for the time being. We appreciate all those members who choose to help the club by volunteering to be on the Board. For Sale Electric Cash Register with paper roles for $100.00. A Note From 1st Vice President Ralph Dahma I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the CWCJC Board as 1st Vice President and Secretary. I hope that my contributions over the past 5 & 1/2 years, however modest, have been beneficial to the club and our members. After much thought, I have decided to not seek re-election as 1st VP, and to pursue other interests, as well as getting back to doing a little more dancing. I have told Joanne that I will help her and the Board in any way I can, and I encourage everybody else to do the same. Thanks for all of your support and encouragement, see you on the dance floor! Sincerely, Ralph
