2 President s Corner We are finally starting to see some seasonable temperatures in our weather and that makes us want to get out on the road again in our 'Vettes. On the weekend of June 4th and 5th, a number of us traveled to Epping, New Hampshire for the NHRA New England Nationals Drag Races. Because the weather forecast was for rain on Sunday, we changed our plans and left really early on Saturday to attend the races that day. It was a good choice because Sunday was a wash-out with rain all day. Our next outing will be "Back 2 the Beach" in Old Orchard Beach, Maine from Friday, June 10 to Sunday, June 12. This will be a Corvette Cruise event. We will be leaving Friday morning and returning on Sunday. The weather report has been improving from what was originally a rainy weekend to just some overnight rain Saturday night into early Sunday so it sounds promising Linda O. has reserved the pavilion at Macedonia State Park in Kent for our annual picnic to be held on Sunday, August 14. Please save the date for this well-attended annual event. There is always good food and great company for all to enjoy. Some other upcoming events include: - July 4 parade in New Fairfield - Private fireworks display on July 4 in Bridgewater - Ferry trip from Bridgeport to Port Jefferson 7/17/16 (see flyer for more info) - The Adirondacks 'Vette Fest 9/9-9/11/16 - 'Vettes to Vets 9/24-9/25/16 - Cruise to and lunch at West Point, date TBD - Essex Steam Train on River cruise, date TBD - Cruise to Gillette Castle, date TBD - No-Car-Show-Party at Joe and Sui's House, date TBD This month's meeting will be held on Thursday, June 16th at the Sycamore Drive-in at 282 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, CT at 6:30 PM. Attendees may order food or dessert or both (or not) as they wish. Menu is available online at and there are also discount coupons available at that site. Hope to see all of you on the 16th. 3 Vice President s Corner Another month has gone by and we are getting ready to start cruising. If anyone has recommendations on some day or overnight trips please get in touch with me. Also any Corvette or club related apparel can be purchased through Gallishirts.com. Jim Vitetta Executive Secretary s Corner Our trip to New Hampshire to watch the National Drag Racing Championships was memorable, as usual. We convoyed up to Epping with Sui and Joe, Nina and Dave, Vince and Denise, Linda and Gene, and Bob M. The races may not be everybody s cup of tea, but they sure were exciting and LOUD, especially the top fuel and funny cars. We witnessed a shocking accident when one of the cars burst into flames and the shell and other parts flew off the track and over the wall. Happily, the driver walked away from the wreck. I saw the instant replay on a couple of TV channels on the Sunday news back in Connecticut. 3

4 It turns out that Portsmouth is a real happening place on Saturday night and we couldn t find a parking space. Dave led us around until we ended up at a seafood place on the river. We didn t believe the posted sign in the parking lot that said DANGER, FLOODING MAY OCCUR AT HIGH TIDE. The seaweed next to my car should have been a tipoff, but it was ignored. After a lovely, if not raucous dinner, we were lingering over coffee when someone noticed water in the parking lot. Then we noticed how quickly it was moving. The men bolted out to the cars to move them; luckily the only damage done was wet shoes happy ending to a happy time. Paula T. 5 From the Editor/Corresponding Secretary We are doing an oldie but goodie for this month s meeting. Years ago, during the summer months the club would hold shorter meetings and cruise to a local place for ice cream and conversation. So, this month, we are planning to hold a short meeting at the Sycamore and enjoy an old fashioned Malt Shop experience with some excellent burgers, home-made root beer and perhaps some hot fudge sundaes (the hot fudge is sinful, and actually served HOT what a concept!) 6 2016 ACTIVITIES CALENDAR EVENTS The club has a very busy 2016 planned with activities in every month! If there are events you would like to see added, please contact one of our officers or bring up the subject at one of the meetings. This is your club and we want to be sure we are planning activities that are of interest to our members. As in years past we will hold our executive meeting on the first Thursday of each month and the general membership meeting on the third Thursday of every month.
