2 CVCC President s Corner January 2012 So how did it first begin for you? Did you hitch a ride with a friend who was driving a Vette back in the 50 s or 60 s or 70 s? Did you first watch Route 66 (which is now on daily reruns on Charter Communications here in Brookfield)? Was it being passed by a beautiful Corvette and finally you made the decision to save up for that SOMEDAY purchase? How long did that take? Mine started when I was 8 years old and I have told the story many times. My Aunt Betty brought home a model of a 53 Corvette to me when I was home from school and sick. She said to me One day you are going to own one of these cars. I was in shock! It was the winter of 1953 and I believed her, and she was right! What would you like the next one to be? There are lots of interesting events being developed for the club for the 2012 driving season. Please attend the dinner on January 19 at Armando s Restaurant in Bethel. We are looking forward to sharing the calendar to date for the 2012 season. 3 The Vice President: January 2012 I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. My family and I wish all of you a very healthy, happy prosperous New Year. We are in the beginning of winter, the Corvettes are tucked away in their garages nice and comfy, so far we have been very lucky the weather hasn t been bad at all. I probably shouldn't have said that. Our next meeting will be at Armando s in Bethel. Please call Linda if you will be attending, so she has a head count. Try to attend. We are trying to plan a lot of fun cruises and outings, which is what the club is all about. Everyone s input is important, so we have good ideas on what to do. I want to welcome Vince Quartararo, as our new News Letter Editor. Thank you Vince for stepping forward you filled a very important position in the club. Again I want to wish everyone a very happy and healthy New Year John Oliva Treasurer s Notes from the Vault: January 2012 As we wrap up 2011, I am pleased to report that our Club is on sound financial footing. The success of the Car Show, the Membership Campaign, and Sponsor Donations contributed greatly to our ability to face the financial demands of 2012 confidently. In addition to funding the Car Show and Club Memorial video projects, we made donations to two local food banks and a teen driver education program. The CT. State Police Toys For Kids drive was a huge success, with Club Members and the Club making a record donation of children s gifts. (If we could just get those metal cars to keep pace on the road ) We do this in support of the needs of our greater community and our future companions on the road. As discussed in the January Executive Committee Meeting, I shall present a detailed Treasurer s Report at our first Club meeting in January, and subsequently at the first Club meeting of each Calendar quarter. As your Treasurer, I do not feel it is prudent for our Club Finances to be available on the Internet, but I am always pleased to respond to inquiries from Members. 4 Activities Calendar News The club is planning a busy 2012 with activities penciled in for every month. Below is a look at the tentative schedule. If there are other events you would like to see added please contact one of our officers or bring up the subject at one of the meetings. This is your club and we want to be sure we are planning activities that are of interest to our members. As in years past we will hold our executive meeting on the first Thursday of each month and the general membership meeting on the third Thursday of every month. Everyone is encouraged to attend these meetings. In addition, every Tuesday night is a cruise to Burgeritaville in Newtown and Sunday morning coffee runs and Brunches will be added as we move forward. The 2012 Centennial Edition package will be available on all Corvette models including GrandSport, Z06 and ZR1 starting this summer. The special package was inspired by Chevrolet s racing-bred foundation, which continues withcorvette s international racing excellence and production sports car prominence. Racing and performance are the roots of Chevrolet, a tradition carried forward today bycorvette, said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. The Centennial Edition notonly celebrates our 100 years, it once again pushes Corvette forward for a new generation ofsports car fans. The Chevrolet Centennial Edition Corvette expresses racing heritage, but does so with a sleek, modern, even sinister-looking appearance. The Centennial Edition package comes exclusivelyin Carbon Flash Metallic, with satin-black graphics and unique Centennial Satin Black wheelsand red brake calipers. The wheels are constructed of lightweight cast-spun aluminum andinclude a thin red outline around the perimeter of its surface on the Z06. The wheels are specificto the respective Corvette models, including 18-inch/19-inch for Coupe, Convertible and GrandSport; and 19-inch/20-inch for Z06 and ZR1. Magnetic Selective Ride Control, the world s fastest-reacting suspension and a technologyadvance initiated by Corvette, is included on all Chevrolet

10 Centennial Edition Corvette models. The Centennial Edition also features special badges that signify Chevrolet s racing history. Agraphic logo featuring an iconic image of Louis Chevrolet appears on the B-pillars, the centercaps of the wheels, and the center of the steering wheel. The seat headrests also carry anembossed centennial logo. Aficionados will note one other small detail: The historic crossed flags badge contains a smalladaptation, with 100 in place of the traditional fleurde-lis symbol, only for the CentennialEdition. The exterior color scheme is reinforced inside the car, with the Ebony leather-wrappedinstrument panel and doors complimented by red stitching also on the steering wheel, seats, console and shifter. The seats feature microfiber suede accents on seats, steering wheel, shifterand armrests, which were first used on the 2011 Z06 Carbon Limited Edition. The Chevrolet Centennial Edition will be available on all Corvette models via order code ZLC. Pricing will be released this summer prior to the start of availability. Louis Chevrolet was a fearless racing pioneer who also designed our first car, Scheidt said. Corvette is a natural fit to honor that legacy, while creating a compelling new package forsports car drivers. Gary VETTE Technical Sweet Dreams I wish I was, I wish I was. a ZR1 Storing your car away for the Winter is more than parking it in the garage and forgetting about it until Spring. The car has to be prepared correctly to prevent things such as moisture and rodents from damaging your pride and joy. Your car should always be stored in an insulated building with a concrete floor, but sometimes you just have to take what you can get. Try to stay away from uninsulated garages because in colder climates the severe changes in temperature in unheated garages promote moisture and moisture causes problems. You can help to prevent this by placing pie pans containing charcoal briquettes around on the floor. Also, commercial absorbents used for closets and damp rooms will help but remember you will have to change these approximately every 30 days. Always use a quality Corvette car cover from Zip Corvette Parts, 8067 Fast Lane, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, (800) Never use a plastic, rubber, canvas or waterproof cover. These all trap moisture.
