Dear Dance Parents, On Tuesday July 8, 2014-Sunday July 13 th, 2014 the Star Makers Competitive Dance Team will attend Revolution National Talent Competition to be held at Sandler Center for the Performing Arts 201 Market St, Virginia Beach, VA. We will compete 41 numbers at this competition Overview For those of you new to competitive dance or new to Star Makers, Nationals is an amazing event! At Nationals, our dancers will have an opportunity to compete with dancers from all over the country in a week long exciting event. This makes Nationals an extremely difficult event, as we are competing with the best of the best! Also at Nationals, the dancers also have the opportunity to take FREE MASTER CLASSES. This is an EXCELLENT opportunity for dancers to take classes and increase their technique. DANCERS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to attend these classes, as they are an EXCELLENT way for dancers to be challenged and to grow! Remember, although we are looking forward to exploring VA Beach and having some fun in the sun, OUR DANCERS PUPROSE FOR BEING AT THE COMPETITION IS TO DANCE!! On the last day of the competition, there will be the super exciting Battle At The Beach! At this event, the highest performing numbers from the entire week in the 11 and under and 12 and over age groups will re-compete for additional awards. Star Makers will have two numbers in the Battle. AS WITH ALL OF COMPETITION EVENTS, ALL PARENTS AND DANCERS ARE EXPECTED TO STAY FOR THE ENTIRE BATTLE, ALL THE WAY THROUGH AWARDS! PLEASE PLAN YOUR TRAVEL ACCORDINGLY SO THAT YOU ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE ENTIRE EVENT. On Saturday July 12, 2014, SPIRIT DAY will be held! On this day studios, that means dancers, parents, and teachers, are invited to dress in their best beach gear, with an awarding going out to the studio with showing the most team spirit! It is imperative that we as dancer, parents, and teachers take next few days of practice extremely serious. We need our dancers at all of their assigned rehearsals over the next few days. Do all that you can do to make sure your dancers are on time and prepared to dance! This preparation is VITAL to ensure that our dancers are ready to hit the stage! LET S GET IT STAR MAKERS! WERK! Please Read the Following Competition Guidelines Carefully. FAILURE TO COMPLY COULD RESULT IN EXPULSION FROM THE TEAM. Unsportsmanlike Behavior: Keep in mind that our team rules apply while out at competition, Anyone caught exhibiting unsportsmanlike behavior will be counseled by me and will also face
immediate expulsion from the team. This behavior includes gossiping, bullying, arguing with parents on our team or on anyone else s team, negative behavior and demeanor, booing another performance, or rude behavior to employees of the competition. At Star Makers we take this rule VERY seriously! This behavior will not be tolerated!! THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!! Polite behavior is to be demonstrated among dance parents, dancers, and guests of the team, as well as between parents and dancers among other teams at the competition. Parents please watch what you say and where and when you say it. As I always say, we can talk all we want when we get home. You never know who is sitting next to you or behind you. Please alert your guests of this ruling. You are responsible for your guests. 1) Please note that arrival times for each competition day are strict. All dancers MUST adhere to their arrival times as noted below. DO NOT ARRIVE LATE! LATE ARRIVAL CAN AFFECT OUR SCORE! 2) THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEO OF ANY KIND ALLOWED WITH IN THE AUDITORIUM. PICTURES MAY BE TAKEN IN THE DRESSING ROOM AND AROUND THE BUILDING. PLEASE ALERT YOUR GUESTS OF THIS RULE. FAILURE TO COMPLY COULD CAUSE OUR TEAM TO BE DISQUALIFED. 3) We are a small team, thus it is very important that we are there to support each other. Dancers are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to be present to cheer on their team makes even if they are not schedule to dance on a particular day. 4) Upon arrival, parents are to go directly to the dressing room and set up your dancers and get dressed. Dressing rooms are typically labeled. Check in at the registration table if you have any questions. Whom ever is to arrive first, if it s not Ms. Stephanie OR another Star Makers Staff please find the dressing room and stake out a good spot for our team. Dancers and Dance Moms should be the only ones in the dressing rooms. Please have all guests wait in the audience. 5) On each competition day, dancers MUST arrive with hair and make up complete and ready. All female dancers are to arrive dressed with Star Makers Jacket, Star Makers Dancer T-Shirt worn underneath, Black Leggings, and Ugg Boots (or similar). Our gentleman should wear any Star Makers gear that they have (Christian in his Sweatsuit). Team members will wear this uniform when they are not in costume and when they are going on stage for awards. 6) All dancers MUST remain at the competition until the the end of the award ceremonies for each of their numbers. 7) Audience support: When in the audience, Sit together and CHEER LOUDLY, throughout the entire dance. (Make Adjustments to this based on the size of the room and the type of dance) Particularly, when one of our dancer s does something difficult (many turns in a row, extensions, splits, jumps, flips) or when they are giving a lot of attitude. For the big group numbers (Carnival, Queen, Rip the Runway, Proud Mary) Literally go Crazy! For a lyrical routine, cheer during turn sequences, jump sequences, and at the start and finish of the
routine. When a judge hears how excited the crowd is for a number, they tend to score it higher!! DO NOT SIT CLOSE TO JUDGES OR GO NEAR THE JUDGES TABLE. 8) Keeping in Contact: Parents, please make sure that your phone number is stocked with each others phone numbers. During events, I m usually too busy to answer my phone, if you have any questions or concerns as you are traveling to competition, please call other parents first before trying to get me, as they may be able to help you before I can. 9) FEMALE DANCERS ARE NOT TO WEAR UNDERWEAR IS TO BE WORN BY FEMALE DANCERS, UNLESS YOUR DANCER HAS THEIR CYCLE, and even then it should be NUDE UNDERWEAR! 10) If your dancer suffers from exercise induced asthma and uses an inhaler, parents can give this inhaler to Ms. Stephanie or Ms. Courtney who are typically on the wings of the stage during performances.
