1 COMPETITION TEAM/COMPANY RULES & POLICES Dancers Ink takes pride in providing all dancers and parents with a high level of dance training in a positive environment. Our structured rules and policies will result in a positive and successful competitive dance education experience. Below is an outline of our expectations from our competition team dancers and parents. Any questions, please contact Miss Katie prior to signing and returning. DANCERS: Congratulations! Be proud of your accomplishments as a DI team/company member. Stay committed and present in all your classes, dance full out (100% effort and energy), and pay attention to your teachers. Corrections are provided to better your dancing. Show respect to all teachers and teammates. Be a positive role model and support all our dancers on DI teams. PARENTS: Competition is a family commitment from support at home to competitions themselves. Cooperation, respect and a positive outlook is important for your dancer and their teams progress and success. **Communication regarding competition team/company information is done through . Please be sure to check your regularly throughout the dance season for information and updates. Texting is also a means for communication. s are sent in group s and not blindcopied** All competition schedule information is posted to our website under the competition team tab. A. Mandatory Components A.1 CLASS BEHAVIOR Be prepared for class (hair, shoes, positive attitude, BE PRESENT) Jazz team dancers should have their journals for class Give effort and energy to your teacher and your teammates throughout season Try and be challenged Encouragement and support for each other and other team members o Negative behavior towards one another will not be tolerated. If team dancer does not attend weekly team classes with positive behavior & attitude, effort and energy, the team dancer can and will be placed on probation and can be removed from team for the season. Be dressed for class 1
2 o Jazz Team Dancers leotard is required for jazz team class, musical theater, ballet tech and ballet class. Hair must be in bun. o Jazz Team Dancers: Leotard styles and sizes will be selected in end of September/early Oct during class o Jazz team dancers: leotard and hair dress code will be enforced and consequences such as probation and being removed from team can occur. 1 st time warning, 2 nd time sits for class, 3 rd time sits in waiting room and discussion with parent A.2 COSTUMES AND ACCESSORIES All dancers will be required to purchase one costume per competition routine. (included in your team fee) o If the costume is too large upon arrival, alterations may be required at a minimal cost if needed to be made by a seamstress. Costume pieces cannot be replaced if lost. Only entire costumes can be ordered in the event of a misplaced item. Dancers must have all costume pieces, shoes, makeup, hair accessories, and hairstyle to compete. If a dancer forgets an accessory or part of their costume to competition, THEY WILL NOT PERFORM AT THE COMPETITION AND NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN. All female dancers are required to wear dance makeup, earrings and any other accessory necessary for the performance. (make up kit including earrings is separate fee, orders to be placed Nov/Dec) Hairpiece to be determined per team/company (additional fee average $15) 2 Shoes o Jazz team dancers- tan or black jazz slip on shoes. Color of shoe will be determined once costume is selected. Fitting and orders will be placed at studio. (additional fee) o Jazz team dancers (musical theater) style of shoe will be determined once costume is selected. (additional fee) o Production Team dancers style of shoe will be determined once costume is selected. (additional fee) o Hip Hop company/team dancers style of sneaker for costume will be decided once costume is picked. Orders & fitting will be placed with the studio. (included in team fee) o Company lyrical tan lyrical pirouette shoes. Fitting & orders will be placed at studio (included in team fee) o Tap Team a specific brand/style tap shoe will be required and shared after auditions. (additional fee)
3 A.3 TEAM APPAREL AND WARM UPS Dancers are required to have DI team jacket o New jacket style for 2019 season, dancers who have a team jacket from 2018 season are not required to purchase a new team jacket o Orders to be placed October at studio o Jacket $62.00 (plus tax 6.35%) Dance bags with dancers name/team embroidered (optional) o Orders to be placed October/November at studio o Large black duffle bag $42.00 (plus tax 6.35%) o Small pink duffle bag $42.00 (plus tax 6.35%) B. ATTENDANCE POLICY Total allowed class absences for each required company or team class for the dance season (Sept May): FIVE (5). o This is due to the following: illness, school event, religious holiday/event, family, and injury. It is imperative that dancers attend their regularly scheduled competition class in order to rehearse choreography and continue to develop in technique/skills. o This applies to each Team/Company your dancer is a member of and each required class for their team. o A dancer is considered present in class if they are injured or not feeling well but sitting and observing their class in the studio. o A dancer is considered present in a class if they attend a minimum of ½ the class time. IE. If class is 1 hr, they must be present for at least 30 minutes to be counted as present in class. o If a dancer is absent a 6 (sixth) time, consequences can and will be implemented with team members not allowed to compete even if payment was submitted. All dancers have MANDATORY attendance for company/team class for the week of competitions. If the week of competition falls on a holiday an additional rehearsal may be held and presence at rehearsal is mandatory. If no additional rehearsal is held, the class prior to competition weekend is mandatory attendance. If a dancer DOES NOT attend rehearsal/class the week of competition, dancer will observe that competition and not compete. NO EXCEPTION. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN. This will be strictly enforced. 3
4 All Jazz Team Dancers are required to take ballet technique on Thursdays. There is no costume fee or recital dance for this class. If additional rehearsals are needed outside of the regularly weekly scheduled team class, notification will be given. Dancers are required to attend extra practices prior to a performance if necessary to better prepare them for their event. If a dancer must observe a competition, recital or other performance, the cost for performing, travel costs, and other expenses will not be reimbursed. Production Team A total of rehearsals will be scheduled Fridays 4:30 6:30 pm or Saturdays for teammates to learn choreography for Production routine (Nov April). A schedule will be provided 1 month prior with Teams needed for each rehearsal. Some teams will be present for the entire rehearsal or part of the rehearsal based on what section of choreography is being taught that week. Full attendance is desired for the best success for the team and moving forward with choreography and cleaning at each rehearsal. Total allowed rehearsal absences for production team: TWO (2) C. COMPETITION GUIDELINES Dancers and their families should take competition seriously. Be prepared for competitions by eating well, getting rest, stretching and maintaining a positive mindset prior and at performances. All dancers must be available and plan to attend competition on any of the dates noted for each competition. Each team will only perform their routine on 1 of the days however we do not know which day/time until schedule is provided. o Dancers on multiple teams IE jazz, hip hop, production. It is not guaranteed that they will perform all on the same day of a competition weekend. o All competition scheduling is set by the competition company, NOT OUR STUDIO. o No special request for days or time can be made. o As soon as I receive competition schedule you will be ed and schedule posted to competition team tab on website. Please do not ask Miss Katie in advance. 4
5 If a dancer is not ready and prepared by the call time noted for their team, the team will perform without them. Competition fees will not be refunded in this instance. Please make sure they have all of their pieces for their costume packed in their dance bag including tights, shoes and accessories. All dancers must be present for the awards ceremony for every dance they perform. It is mandatory for all Team Members to wear DI team jacket at awards ceremony. All DI team members will be supportive to all our teams as well as other studio competitors at competitions. Demonstrate good sportsmanship. Competition fees are not refunded once a dancer has been registered to perform unless the competition has been cancelled due to low enrollment. D. OTHER Miss Katie s Cell # (text or call) D.1 TEAM/COMPANY CAPTAINS For Junior/Teen Team & Company as well as Production and Musical Theater a Captain will be chosen by the Team Teacher for the season. Captains selected will demonstrate strong leadership skills for their team, be a helping hand to the Team Teacher in weekly classes as well as at competitions. Team Captains responsibilities include communication to team members, positive role model, respectful and reliable. While all teammates on the team may demonstrate these characteristics, only 1 captain will be selected for each team. If the captain does not fulfill their responsibilities or the teammate chosen does not wish to be the captain, a new captain will be chosen. D.2 COMMUNITY EVENT PERFORMANCES Team dancers will have the opportunity to perform at community events and appearances throughout the year. Team dancers are the first dancers at Dancers Ink to be asked to participate. Attendance is strongly requested. D.3 FUNDRAISER OPPORTUNITIES Any collaboration among team parents to conduct a fundraiser event is welcomed and encouraged to assist with team expenses. Miss Katie will provide banners and information if needed however she will not coordinate nor spearhead fundraisers. D.4 MANDATORY ATTENDANCE AT DRESS REHEARSAL & RECITAL 5 TBD dates and # of shows
6 D.5 CONVENTIONS (optional and encouraged for development in training) Spirit of Dance Awards Convention o Foxwoods Resort & Casino o Sunday, November 4 (8:00 4:00 pm, improv is 4 6pm) o Five 1 hr classes plus improv class and improve challenge, meet & greet with faculty & faculty showcase o 2 levels of classes Junior/Intermediate ages 8-13 Senior/Advanced ages 13+ o Styles of Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary/Lyrical and Broadway Jazz can be offered. Showcase at end of day of master teachers dancing. o Free improv class after meet & greet o Exact schedule of classes to be provided 10 days prior to event. Faculty may include dancers from So You Think You Can Dance o Payment due by Fri, Oct 5 Cost: $140 per dancer (5 classes plus improv class and improv challenge) $20 per observer band Turn it Up Dance Challenge Convention o Mystic Marriott Mystic, CT o Sunday, November 18 (8:30-4:00 pm) o Payment due by Fri, Oct 19 Advanced ages 12+ (5 classes) = $ Intermediate ages 9-14 (5 classes) = $ Beginner ages 6-8 (3 classes ) = $90.00 (includes 1 observer band) $20.00 per observer band o Styles of Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary/Lyrical, Broadway, Tap, and Technique can be offered. Showcase at end of day of master teachers dancing. o Exact schedule of classes to be provided 10 days prior to event. E. COMPETITION TEAM FEE & ENTRY FEES E.1 Competition TEAM Fees The Team Fee for each team your dancer is a member of will post to your account Oct 1 Team Fee for each company/team your dancer is a member of due in full by October 12 After October 12, $10 late fee per team per dancer will be added to your account 6

Exact dates/schedule is noted in section F Competition Schedule Competition Entry Fees per dancer/per team will post to your account on January 16 Competition Entry Fees are due in full by Friday, February 1, After Feb 1, a $10 late fee will be applied to your account. Payments may be made towards entry fees during the season up to Feb 1. An itemized receipt will be ed via the online portal if payments are made.
