T H O R O U G H B R E D R A C I N G STEWARDS REPORT MEETING HELD AT GERALDTON TURF CLUB ON SUNDAY, 2 APRIL 2017 Meeting No: 189 Weather: Fine Track: Good (3) Rail: Out 4 Metres Stewards: Veterinary Surgeon: Medical Officer: M.L. Reedy Stewards conducted a number of stable inspections of trainer s with runners engaged at today s meeting as part of the Compliance Assurance raceday activities and no breaches of the rules were detected. A number of riders were randomly selected to be subjected to urine drug testing which will be analysed for the presence of banned substances. Further, all riders competing at today s meeting underwent routine breathalyser testing with all tests being negative. RACE 1: OWNERS ONLY MAIDEN - 1200M BONNY ANGEL was a late withdrawal at 12:04pm when the mare became fractious and slipped in its stall area receiving a laceration above its right eye. Trainer Ms T. Guy was advised that BONNY ANGEL would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness prior to racing or trialling again. STEVE Raced wide on straightening. Lay inwards in the straight with the rider having to correct his mount approaching the 200m. BANJO MAN Lay inwards in the straight. TRADE TALK - Commenced awkwardly. Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. HAND IT OVER Raced wide for the majority of the event. In relation to the gelding s performance, rider could offer no explanation other than it raced wide throughout which may have tolled on its performance. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. MILLY STAR Lay inwards in the straight. RACE 2: LEON BAKER JEWELLERS MAIDEN - 1400M MAGIC METEOR underwent a Veterinary examination behind the barriers and was found to be lame in the near hind and was subsequently withdrawn by Stewards at 1:26pm. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on MAGIC METEOR ($26) be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 1:26pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st ) MUSS GET IT less 0c win and 2c place 2 nd ) HECADANE S CHOICE less 3c place 3 rd ) BUSINESSAFTERHOURS less 4c place\ Trainer Ms R. JIMMY RAPID Raced greenly throughout. WHAT DAT SONG (NZ) Raced greenly throughout. Impeded for a short distance approaching the 200m. BUSINESSAFTERHOURS Returned having cast its near hind plate during running. RACE 3: DRENNAN O'MALLEY MOTORS HANDICAP (2D - 1600M SKY CLIP was a late withdrawal by Stewards acting on Veterinary advice at 2:02pm when it was found to be lame in the near fore. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on SKY CLIP ($31) be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 2:02pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st ) ERNIE BOY less 0c win and 3c place 2 nd ) MR LONELY less 3c place 3 rd ) BOYS BUSINESS less 2c place Trainer Ms K. Deane was advised that the SKY CLIP would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness prior to racing or trialling again. MADAM KENWORTHY Blundered passing the crossing with the rider becoming unbalanced. OPERATIONAL Raced wide throughout. Tightened and restrained near the 300m. BRONZE LIGHTNING Blundered passing the crossing with the rider becoming unbalanced. Held tight and bumped outwards near the 300m. FRIARGENT Impeded for a short distance on straightening. Angled outwards and as a result bumped with another runner. MARJESDEN Lay inwards in the straight. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for OPERATIONAL (M. Autier) being tightened and restrained near the 300m. It was established that through this section of the race FRIARGENT (F. Kersley) when impeded had shifted his mount outwards and in doing so has made contact to BRONZE LIGHTNING (B. Paterson) racing to its outside which was held tight, bumped and shifted outwards resulting in the above interference. After considering all evidence, Stewards were mindful that MARJESDEN (T. Turner) which was racing to the extreme outside with his mount laying inwards was a contributing factor to this incident however, Stewards strongly reminded Apprentice F. Kersley of his obligations to ensure that he is fully clear of other runners before shifting ground or further action may be taken. Following this race Stewards examined a section of track near the crossing and declared it safe to continue racing. RACE 4: DRENNAN O'MALLEY MOTORS HANDICAP - 1600M Routine specimens were taken from the winner VAN ISLAND. WING COMMANDER Slow into stride, losing two lengths. SEA TRYST Raced keenly through the early and middle stages and as a result steadied from heels near the 1350m. HUE AND CRY Raced wide throughout.
GERALDTON : 02.04.17 189/3 Race 4 Continued SHARREADA - Commenced awkwardly, losing one length. Impeded for a short distance on straightening. In relation to the mare racing further back in the field, rider advised that after commencing awkwardly the mare settled further back than anticipated. SENTOKI A post race Veterinary examination revealed the mare to have returned with low grade exertional heat illness and underwent treatment on course. NIGHTSHADE Raced wide throughout. RACE 5: XXXX GOLD HANDICAP - 1400M QUEEN OF CHOICE Lay outwards on straightening. Impeded from on straightening until approaching the 100m. AINIA Bounded on jumping and as a result lost two lengths. In relation to the performance, rider was of the opinion that after the mare had bounded on jumping it had felt uncomfortable in its action. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Ms F. Ducas advised that the mare had recovered well following its run with no abnormalities detected and would continue with is preparation. BY DECREE Held tight for a short distance near the 200m. CHAVINCA Angled outwards at the 300m to obtain clear running. FIRST EVENING STAR Slow into stride, losing one length. HUSSON MAID - Lay outwards on straightening. General: Jockey Robert Markou (HUSSON MAID) was questioned regarding his riding over the final 100m and in particular if he had relaxed when riding in a hand and heels manner passing the 75m to the 50m, rider stated that in his opinion he had ridden the mare out strongly in a hands and heels manner and had used the whip sparingly as in his opinion it was responding best to this riding style. After considering Jockey Markou statements Stewards reminded him of his obligations that he must ensure that he rides his mounts out vigorously to not leave himself open to questioning in future. RACE 6: BUNBURY APARTMENT MOTEL HANDICAP - 1200M BAY PUBLISHER Impeded from on straightening and when approaching the 150m was angled outwards across heels for clear running. MISHKEBAB Impeded for clear running from on straightening and angled inwards approaching the 200m to obtain clear running. DANCE MINDY DANCE In relation to the performance, rider could offer no explanations. Trainer Mr D. Harrison advised that the mare had come to the end of its preparation and will now be sent for a spell. NEWMARRACARRA Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. Lay inwards in the straight. MUSKETALIFE Squeezed on jumping. QUANTATIVE EASING Raced wide throughout. RACE 7: PURCHER INTERNATIONAL-BATAVIA SPRINT - 1300M Routine specimens were taken from the winner MAX ALMIGHTY. COMING BACK Co-Trainer Mr G. Williams advised that he would instruct for the gelding to be ridden in a mid to mid-rear position if possible from its wide barrier and this information was disseminated. Angled outwards for clear running at the 300m. RED PUBLISHER Raced wide throughout. BERNINA HEIGHTS Dwelt on jumping, losing two lengths.

Improved onto heels and steadied outwards on straightening. Shoeing Change: DIVASUN Pad On (Off fore) RACE 8: TABTOUCH-GERALDTON GOLD CUP - 2100M All runners engaged in this race were required to be on course 2 hours prior to the advertised starting time. Routine specimens were taken from the winner WAYSIDE. OUTLAW PETE In relation to the gelding s performance, rider advised that the gelding was under pressure from the 600m. A post race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have quartered its off fore heel and was subsequently treated. FALCON CREST Raced wide from the 800m. PRESELECTION Over-raced through the early and middle stages. FREEDOM BY CHOICE Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination behind the barriers which revealed it to have a minor abrasion to the near fore. HARDWOOD Mis-strode passing the crossing. STARRY DANE Impeded for clear running from on straightening until approaching the 150m. TRULY GOLD Slow into stride, losing one length. Crowded for a short distance near the 200m. WAYSIDE (NZ) Mis-strode making the crossing. Gear Change: WAYSIDE Nasal Strips Off RACE 9: GERALDTON HOTEL HANDICAP - 1300M DAM LUCKY was a late withdrawal by Stewards at 5:24pm when the gelding lunged forward striking its head on the barrier partition and after undergoing a Veterinary examination and declared unfit to race. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on DAM LUCKY ($6) be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 5:24pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st ) RIVERDANCE less 3c win and 7c place 2 nd ) GLOWING ROCK less 9c place 3 rd ) PETALS less 12c place Trainer Mr G. Spowart was advised that DAM LUCKY would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness prior to racing or trialling again. The start of this race was delayed approximately four minutes. RIVER DANCE Proved difficult to load. REMEMBER BILLY Raced wide throughout. ANNIE'S LUCK In relation to the performance, a post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr D. Harrison advised that in his opinion the gelding is better suited when leading which it was unable to do so today. BLUE FLAME Over-raced through the early and middle stages.
