J U L Y 2 0 1 4 President s Message Dear Ladies, I miss Eagleglen. anyone else feeling that indescribable loss? I think anyone who has played golf here in Alaska for any length of time understands this feeling. It s difficult to explain, but perhaps the words water, bridges and foxes come close to describing it. Remember the thrill of having to carry the water (in two) on the first hole! It had the power to set your mood for the rest of the day. Such a risk-reward hole! Or coming around to the clubhouse on the 9th, then walking past the driving range spying great swings and/or friends. And of course how do you describe the anticipation of holes 14 and 15. Those two holes gave such a sense of accomplishment or decimation, depending on the day. And of course the skill set needed to master the infamous 18 th hole I just miss it! Change, yes it is upon us, manifested in ways we are not consciously aware of. However, the ladies of the Anchorage Women s Golf Association march on. Our organization is at the forefront of what is new and how the game is presented, played and competed. Here s a synapse of who is doing what in our organization in regard to these three fore mentioned aspects: ~Our handicap chairperson, Susie Macleod, is keeping us on our toes with our responsibility to adjust, post our scores in a timely manner, and keeping scores available for all to view. The handicap chairperson is an asset to all our tourney directors. ~Our web master, Terrie McEvoy, has been diligently getting information out in quick news blasts of emails to everyone. Additionally she is creating a technology users manual (instructions) for utilizing the GHIN eclubhouse website for future users. ~Our membership chairperson, Pam Chesla, has set a goal of setting up a GHIN user profile portal for all our members. She contacts all members to help them set it up. ~Nadine Dely and Tamara Sanderson coordinate continually throughout the summer Team Play and its perpetual accumulation of points per team. ~Jane Shaw and committee are ready to kick off the first round of Team Match Play with teams collaborating with rogue team names and colors! How cool is that! ~ Toyoko Hawkins has secured big donations for the Moose Run Tournament. It s expected to be a first class event. Have you signed up yet? ~ Terrie McEvoy and committee are seeing the fruits of all their efforts to create a summer long qualifying opportunity leading up to the big day on Aug. 28 th for the duel format of the Club Championship. It s new, it s exciting, it s challenging, it s different, and if I don t do well in the qualifiers, I still get the choice to play in The Fun tourney in the Club Championship. Your hard work and experimentation are appreciated. ~Karen Weaver has put out the Moose Race applications at the golf courses. ~Big thank you to the 2 Day Chair, Belle Johnson, and her committee for another event of fun playing golf. The goal of this tournament was met for me, as I got to play with new people and made new friends. This tournament was a great success. ~And finally, a big thank you to our Days Play Coordinators that are continuously on the computer or phone, coordinating tee times and players on their respective courses. They are under additional confinements this year with the loss of EG GC. They must get our tee time reservations in a week in advance. Have you played Days Play yet? This is another opportunity to learn the game with seasoned players, and to meet new golfing friends. Check the calendar to find the coordinator at each course. Life is good. Don t put off till tomorrow, what you can do today See you out there soon. Cecilia Hopper
