* Minnesota over *Chicago by 17 Injuries had something to do with it, but Minnesota s defense didn t look right during the first quarter of the season. That s changed now. The well-rested Vikings come in off their bye in excellent shape with Dalvin Cook back to 100 percent and key defenders Anthony Barr and Andrew Sendejo expected to play after being hurt. The Vikings are 4-1 in their last five games. They ve given up the fifth-fewest points per game and ranked in the top-five in first downs per play, turnover percentage and scoring rate among defenses during their last four games. Minnesota sacked Matthew Stafford 10 times in its last game. Danielle Hunter ranks No. 2 in sacks with 11.5 and Everson Griffen is back terrorizing quarterbacks, too, after missing games due to psychological problems. Don t look for Mitchell Trubisky to do much against this caliber of defense. He s not in the class of Kirk Cousins, who has thrown for the seventh-most yards in the NFL, nor can the Bears match the Vikings star wide receiver tandem of Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. There may not be a more dependable wideout than Thielen, who has had more than 100 receiving yards in eight of nine games this season. Cook s return now gives the Vikings the home-run threat they ve been missing along with an outside speed dimension. The Bears are much improved this season. Minnesota, though, is the class of the NFC North Division. The Vikings have begun to play their best ball as they continue to get healthy. Look for it all to come together here. The Vikings took care of their kicking problems by signing Dan Bailey. The Bears have questions with their kicker after Cody Parkey missed four kicks, including two extra points, this past Sunday. MINNESOTA 27-10. *Jacksonville over Pittsburgh by 5 The Steelers still may be steaming mad about losing twice to the Jaguars last season, both times at Heinz Field with the last being 45-42 in the playoffs. Truth be told, though, the Jaguars are a tough matchup for Pittsburgh with their elite defense and ground-and-pound attack. Jacksonville still has nearly all of its players from its defense of a year ago, which yielded the second fewest points and yards. The Jaguars just haven t come up with as many takeaways. That should start to change given their personnel. Le Veon Bell now is expected to sit out the entire season. James Conner has exceeded expectations taking Bell s spot. But Conner is in concussion protocol. He may not gain clearance. The Steelers haven t been able to slow down Leonard Fournette, who rushed for 290 yards and scored five touchdowns versus Pittsburgh last season. Fournette returned last Sunday against the Colts. Fournette s presence takes the pressure off Blake Bortles, who is most effective as a game-manager when he s not asked to win games. This line is inflated because of Pittsburgh s impressive 52-21 Thursday home victory against the Panthers on national television. JACK- SONVILLE 27-22. *Seattle over Green Bay by 4 (Thursday) These stand alone Thursday night games have not been kind to the road team. Home favorites have won nearly 62 percent of the time since they began 13 years ago. Green Bay has yet to win on the road this season. Unless the Packers begin to make more explosive plays on offense and gain consistency on their error-prone defense they will be in trouble on this short week at one of the toughest road venues even though Seattle is 4-7 ATS at home since last season. The Seahawks have rushed 211 times for 1,119 yards in their last six games, an average of 5.3 yards per carry. Green Bay is 7-12-1 since Aaron Rodgers was injured early last season with a broken collarbone. SEATTLE 27-23. NFL *CLOSE CALLS Houston over *Washington by 18 If you looked up the term Winning Ugly there would be a team picture of the Redskins. Washington can get away with defeating the self-destructing Buccaneers, despite being outgained 501-286 yards this past Sunday, but not against Houston. The Texans have surrendered an average of just 15.2 points during their last five games. That was missing cornerbacks Jonathan Joseph and Aaron Colvin. Both are aiming to return here following the Texans bye this past week. It s an added bonus if cornerback Kevin Johnson also is able to return. He s been sidelined with a concussion. Houston s strength is an imposing defensive line featuring J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney that should dominate the line of scrimmage against a Washington offensive line missing three starters left tackle Trent Williams and guards Shawn Lauvao and Brandon Scherff. In addition, right tackle Morgan Moses is dealing with a knee injury and not playing well. The Redskins also have been without three key skill position weapons as wide receivers Paul Richardson and Jamison Crowder along with pass-catching running back Chris Thompson all missed last Sunday. You know the injury situation in Washington is extremely bad when Jordan Reed is one of its healthier players. Alex Smith can t succeed without weapons. The Redskins have failed to score more than 20 points five of their past six games. They rank among the bottom-eight in points, yards and passing yards. Smith is not a dynamic quarterback. DeShaun Watson is. Watson has an 8-to-0 touchdown-tointerception ratio in his last three games. Lamar Miller is running better and the Texans traded for Demaryious Thomas to pair with all-world wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. HOUSTON 31-13. Carolina over *Detroit by 14 The Lions may think they are a run-first team, but they are not. Their ground attack isn t strong enough to be relied upon. Neither is their passing attack with Golden Tate sent packing. Detroit s offense is dysfunctional. Matthew Stafford s numbers are down because of it with a 16-to-8 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Stafford has been sacked 16 times in the last two games. Detroit is 0-3 SU and ATS in its past three games, losing by double-digits to the Seahawks, Vikings and Bears. Detroit s task isn t easier this week. Carolina starts seven players on defense who have made the Pro Bowl. The Panthers are out for redemption after being embarrassed on national television this past Thursday, losing 52-21 to the Steelers. The Panthers allowed five sacks in that defeat. That was an aberration. Carolina s offensive line had not given up that many sacks during their previous four games combined. Cam Newton still managed to extend his franchise-record streak to eight consecutive games of multiple touchdown passes. The Lions have surrendered 19 touchdown passes while picking off only three passes and could be minus star cornerback Darius Slay another week. CAROLINA 30-16. *Baltimore over Cincinnati by 8 The Bengals have defeated the Ravens in eight of the last 10 meetings, including 34-23 in Week 2. Cincinnati may have a hard team continuing that domination. The Ravens are 13-3 SU and ATS following their bye. Baltimore didn t have its top cornerback, Jimmy Smith, in that first game. Smith is back from a suspension and A.J. Green is out with a toe injury. The Bengals yield the most yards in the NFL. They have been without their two best linebackers, Vontaze Burfict and Nick Vigil, along with cornerback Darqueze Dennard. Joe Flacco s hip flared up during the Ravens bye so there s a chance rookie Lamar Jackson could make his NFL starting debut, or veteran Robert Griffin III starts. BALTIMORE 28-20. *Atlanta over Dallas by 1 The Falcons are back home for the first time in four weeks. Atlanta averages 32.2 points in five games inside their dome stadium. Dallas is minus difference-making linebacker Sean Lee although rookie linebacker Leighton Vander Esch has made a big impact. The Falcons hope recently signed Bruce Irvin can upgrade their pass rush. The Falcons rank 30th in yards given up. They were just gashed for 176 rushing yards on 20 carries by Browns rookie Nick Chubb. Now they have to deal with Ezekiel Elliott, the No. 2 rusher in the league. The Cowboys need to maintain focus in a division sandwich spot having just upset the Eagles and hosting the Redskins the following week. ATLANTA 25-24. *New Orleans over Philadelphia by 3 The spread is slightly inflated here based on how well the Saints played on Sunday in blowing out the Bengals on the road and the Eagles getting upset by the Cowboys on Sunday night. The Saints are winners of eight in a row. The Eagles, however, have lost by more than seven points only once in their last 31 games. Philadelphia s five losses this season have come by an average of 4.4 points. Carson Wentz can hang with Drew Brees having thrown multiple touchdown passes in six straight games. Eagles newcomer Golden Tate leads the NFL in yards after catch since entering the league in 2010. The Saints may be without offensive left tackle Terron Armstead, who suffered a shoulder injury on Sunday. NEW ORLEANS 34-31.

*Indianapolis over Tennessee by 6 It s not surprising the Colts have strung together three straight victories with a healthy Andrew Luck regaining his elite form and being protected well. Rookie guard Quenton Nelson has been especially impressive. Luck has thrown three plus touchdown passes in six consecutive games. He also hasn t been sacked on his last 189 attempts. Indy has never lost to Tennessee at home with Luck under center. The Titans stopped a nine-game road losing streak to the Colts last season, but that was when Jacoby Brissett was Indy s quarterback with Luck out the entire season due to a shoulder injury. Tennessee is 4-8 SU, 5-7 ATS in its past 12 away matchups. INDIANAPOLIS 22-16. Tampa Bay over *New York Giants by 3 Tampa Bay struggles to put together two good halves. Turnovers are an issue, too. Still, the Buccaneers have produced 26 or more points in seven of their nine games, while ranking among the leaders in passing yards and total yards. The Giants, by contrast, entered their Monday game against the 49ers failing to top the 20-point mark in six of eight games. Eli Manning is in the midst of a second straight horrendous season. So it soon could be Kyle Lauletta time in New York. The Buccaneers give up more points than any other team. However, this is a huge step down in class for the Bucs after taking on the offenses of the Falcons, Panthers, Steelers and Saints. TAMPA BAY 26-23. *Los Angeles Chargers over Denver by 11 If it weren t for Patrick Mahomes, Philip Rivers would be drawing a lot of quarterback MVP talk. Rivers may be having the best season of his 15-year career. He has the third-highest passer rating in the league at 115.4. Rivers is averaging around nine yards per pass attempt and has a 21-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio. The Chargers didn t play that well but still rolled past the Raiders, 20-6, last week. Now they play their first true home game in six weeks. LA is 7-1 at its temporary home at StubHub Center. Case Keenum has a 5-to-4 touchdown-to-interception road ratio and has been sacked 14 times and fumbled four times in four away games. LA CHARGERS 29-18. *Arizona over Oakland by 7 Jon Gruden may be down to two hours of sleep per night with his Raiders on a fivegame losing skid, all of which have been by 14 points or more. At least the Cardinals are showing a pulse and can be counted on to provide a full effort. They are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games. New Arizona offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich figured out the Cardinals are at their most effective fully utilizing David Johnson by getting him in space. Johnson had his best game of the season against the Chiefs this past Sunday putting up 183 yards from scrimmage with two touchdowns. The Raiders are yielding 30.2 points a game and 6.7 yards per play, the most at this stage of any defense since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. ARIZONA 24-17. Los Angeles Rams over Kansas City by 3 (Monday) There are two things most unusual about this matchup: It s a Monday night game that is being played in Mexico City and it also is the highest total of the season pitting perhaps the two top MVP candidates, Patrick Mahomes and Todd Gurley. Mahomes leads the NFL in passing yards and touchdown throws with 31. Gurley is the NFL s leading scorer with 17 touchdowns and the NFL s leading rusher. This large total is justified considering the Chiefs are No. 2 in scoring at 35.3 points, while the Rams are third averaging 33.5 points. But since the game is being playing in Mexico City, it remains to be seen if competing in extremely high altitude will have a tiring, uncomfortable effect on the players. LA RAMS 33-30. NFL OVER/UNDER **Under: Minnesota at Chicago - The Vikings have gotten healthy on defense while the Bears have held four of their last seven foes to fewer than 15 points. Over: Philadelphia at New Orleans The Eagles added Golden Tate to their list of receiving weapons, while the Saints lead the NFL in scoring at 36.7 points a game. Under: Tennessee at Indianapolis The Colts defense is much improved while the Titans are holding foes to an NFL-low 16.8 points a game. HISTORICAL TRENDS Green Bay at Seattle Green Bay defeated Seattle, 17-9, at home opening week of last year. The Packers are 3-0 SU and ATS the past three years versus the Seahawks with all the victories coming at home. Carolina at Detroit The Panthers nipped the Lions, 27-24, on the road last season. Dallas at Atlanta The Falcons whipped the Cowboys, 27-7, at home last year. Cincinnati at Baltimore The Bengals beat the Ravens, 34-23, in Week 2. Cincinnati is 8-2 SU, 7-3 ATS during the past 10 meetings. Minnesota at Chicago The Vikings swept the Bears last season winning 20-17 on the road and 23-10 at home. The Vikings are 6-1 SU, 3-3-1 ATS in their last seven meetings against the Bears. Chicago is 8-2 SU and ATS the past 10 times hosting the Vikings. Philadelphia at New Orleans The Eagles rolled past the Saints, 39-17, at home in 2015. Tennessee at Indianapolis The Titans defeated the Colts, 36-22, at home and 20-16 on the road last year. The Colts are 9-1 SU, 8-1-1 ATS hosting the Titans the past 10 seasons. Houston at Washington The Texans trimmed the Redskins, 17-6, at home in 2014. Tampa Bay at New York Giants The Buccaneers edged the Giants, 25-23, at home last season. Denver at Los Angeles Chargers The teams split last season with the Chargers winning 21-0 at home and losing 24-21 on the road. The Broncos are 0-2 SU and ATS in their last two road games against the Chargers. Oakland at Arizona The Cardinals whipped the Raiders, 24-13, on the road in 2014. Pittsburgh at Jacksonville The Jaguars defeated the Steelers twice last season, beating them 30-9 during the regular season and 45-42 in the playoffs with both victories coming on the road. Kansas City vs. Los Angeles Rams (Mexico City) The Chiefs buried the Rams, 34-7, at home in 2014. EXEC FOOTBALL & HOOPS +$8,250 so far in 2018 Call Today: 877 808-0878

COLLEGE FOOTBALL * Navy* over Tulsa by 24 Simply put, Navy is showing some fight and are overdue to get into the win column. It s been a trying year in Annapolis as the Midshipmen are in the midst of a seven-game losing streak. But they ve competed hard of late, pushing Houston, Notre Dame and Central Florida over their last four outings. None of those opponents will be confused with lowly 2-8 Tulsa, whose only wins have come against Central Arkansas and Connecticut. They rank 120th against the rush, holding their opponents under 200 yards just three times to date. There should be little doubt as to Navy s ability to move the ball, and the clock burning nature of the option offense will limit Tulsa s offensive opportunities. This is the third lowest spread against Tulsa to date, and the opponents have covered in the other two by a combined 14 points. Navy finally seems settled under center with Zach Abbey, which has allowed Malcolm Perry to play off the ball a bit more and maximize his playmaking abilities in space and with an element of surprise since he s not touching it on every snap. It has led to 5.1 yards per carry or better in four of their last five. Defensively, Navy is only marginally better statistically against the rush, but they have held five opponents under 163 yards to date, which is Tulsa s bread and butter. Per usual, when playing against the option, scoring on every possession is paramount, and the Hurricanes won t. Navy gets a spirited effort on senior day. NAVY 44-20. S.M.U.* over Memphis by 2 (Friday) The Mustangs have found a groove offensively. After rotating between William Brown and Ben Hicks under center, Hicks has regained his job, having thrown for 276 yards or more in four straight with 10 TDs and only two interceptions in that span. They ve scored 107 points in their last two outings, and shouldn t have trouble moving the ball against Memphis 86th ranked scoring defense. In four of the Tigers six wins, they ve held their opponent to 22 points or less. The Mustangs are confidently going over that figure, and while SMU s defense leaves plenty to be desired, the offense will pick them up and match the Tigers score for score. The Mustangs have been great at home, upsetting Houston while covering against Cincinnati (losing by six) and beating Navy. Points will come freely here, but this looks like a spot for a competitive matchup as opposed to a Memphis route. Getting points looks promising, and an outright win seems very possible. SMU 48-46. Minnesota* over Northwestern by 8 Despite a not so special 6-4 record, the Wildcats have locked up the Big Ten West division. This is a nice letdown spot for them vs. a Minnesota team looking for their own sixth win. The Golden Gophers showed a lot of life last week in a blowout win over Purdue, particularly on defense under new defensive coordinator Jim Rossi. Whether it was a better gameplan or a team responding to a new voice, it doesn t matter. Holding the Boilermakers to 88 rushing yards on 30 carries and 145 passing yards is impressive. We don t expect Northwestern to quit, but nothing that happens in this game will affect their date with Michigan or Ohio. St. in a few weeks. Northwestern is hardly special and has benefitted from being in a terrible division. We like teams that have something to play for and only one of the teams in this games has one. MINNESOTA 28-20. *CLOSE CALLS Baylor* over T.C.U. by 19 This TCU collection of misfits is a dead team walking and it really shows. They have now lost six of their last eight games and haven t beaten a point-spread since a half-point cover in a 12-point loss to Ohio St. Since that game, they have suffered a mountain of season ending injuries that have left them depleted. The only upside left for this team is to win here vs. Baylor and against Oklahoma St. next week to go to a low level bowl. Unfortunately for them, we see that dream ending here. Baylor s 14-point loss to Iowa St. will be remembered for an ugly fight, but the stats show a team that moved the ball quite well but just couldn t finish drives. They put up 505 yards off offense while holding Iowa St. to just 355 without turning the ball over. That was a very good effort for a Baylor defense that hasn t had a lot of positives this year. This is a good spot for them as they have not only played better at home, but the Horned Frogs offense is in a bad place right now. In their last three games against West Virginia, Kansas St., and Kansas, they have scored just 16.7 points per game with 333.7 yards per game. They have rushed for only 67.7 yards per game and it is not just a matter of having to throw more in losing efforts as they are doing so at a rate of 2.3 yards per carry. Baylor can secure a bowl bid here which is a real accomplishment for them after winning a single game in Matt Rhule s first season. BAYLOR 36-17. Ohio St. over Maryland* by 7 (Maryland plus the points) The Buckeyes have covered only four games against nine SU wins and they should drop another one in a lookahead spot here with Michigan on deck next week. They picked up a nice win for us last week as they took advantage of field position all day against an MSU squad that had trouble moving the ball. Maryland came up short last week against Indiana, but they played hard and that matters. It has been a tumultuous season for them and we see them bringing it again with a chance to lock up a bowl game. Expect them to slow the game down and rely on their hugely productive run game which averages 234.9 ypg at 5.8 ypc. It is very likely that Ohio St. will try to coast to a win so they are at their healthiest against Michigan. Even beyond that, they aren t scoring points like they did early on, having been held to 30 or fewer in three of four games. OHIO ST. 31-24. N.C. State over Louisville* by 25 A coaching change for Louisville is not going to fix their defense. The Cardinals have allowed 56, 77 and 54 points in their last three outings, and at least 38 in each of their last five games. It s primarily been done against them on the ground, where they ve allowed a whopping 32 touchdowns overall, with five in each of their last three games. Further, they ve surrendered at least 251 yards in each of the last five weeks, four times allowing more than 325 yards. Those huge yards keep the clock running, and in turn, the Cardinals offense from getting into rhythm and/or pushing back. Following the Wolfpack s surprise loss to Wake Forest, there should be little doubt as to their focus. A spirited, long week of practice has surely ensued, and max effort should be expected from State. That loss also put this line at a much friendlier number. The Pack average 36 points in their wins, and should have no trouble eclipsing that here. N.C. STATE 41-16. Western Michigan over Ball St.* by 7 (Tuesday) Both teams are on losing streaks and are likely to be without their starting quarterbacks. Points may be hard to come by, but we ll assume WMU simply remains the better side. WESTERN MICHIGAN 20-13. Buffalo over Ohio* by 3 (Wednesday) Points will come freely here, but Buffalo makes a statement in route to clinching the MAC East division. BUFFALO 51-48. Northern Illinois* over Miami-Ohio by 10 (Wednesday) NIU proves weekly they have the best defense in the MAC by a wide margin. They ll keep forging their way towards a conference championship game. NORTHERN ILLINOIS 27-17. Toledo over Kent St.* by 17 (Thursday) Kent s only wins are against Howard and Bowling Green. Toledo has feasted on inferior opponents, putting up 45 or more in all league wins. They should be able to name their score here. TOLEDO 44-27. Houston* over Tulane by 5 (Thursday) Houston s two-game skid has resulted from a non-existent defense, though Tulane s three-game winning streak has come against far less competition. Houston just squeaks by the Green Wave here. HOUSTON 36-31. North Texas* over Florida Atlantic by 7 (Thursday) FAU won both matchups last year so revenge is in order. The Owls allow 37.8 ppg on the road while North Texas scores 40.4 at home. NORTH TEXAS 31-24. Boise St. over New Mexico by 21 (Friday) After taking down a very good Fresno St. team last Friday, Boise St. should have little trouble with a 3-7 New Mexico squad that can t stop anyone. BOISE ST. 39-18. Michigan* over Indiana by 24 The Wolverines have to win out to play in the playoffs, but they won t care about style points here with the rival Buckeyes on deck. MICHIGAN 42-18. Pittsburgh over Wake Forest* by 10 Pitt is on a tremendous run in conference, and we re not putting much stock in last week s surprise defensive showing for the Deacons, a unit that still allows 7.2 ypc and 27 rushing scores. PITTSBURGH 38-28. Iowa over Illinois* by 16 Iowa s season fell apart quite quickly with three straight wins, but this Illini team is one they can handle. Illinois struggles to play any real defense. IOWA 35-19. Purdue* over Wisconsin by 2 The Boilermakers were bulldozed by Minnesota last week so we ll have to downgrade them here against a great Badger rushing attack. PURDUE 27-25.
