Villanova Four-Out Motion Offense - "Spread" Table of Contents. Ball & Player Movement Rules. Ballscreen Scenarios. Drive & Space 9. Post & Rip

Ball & Player Movement Rules Spacing and Alignment WING PRIMETIME WING WING PORCH Spacing and Alignment PORCH WING SLOT SLOT SLOT SLOT SPACING with post - Two baseline spots (wings), first mark above the block extended - Two slot perimeter spots, two to three feet off the pt line SPACING without post Without a truly capable post player, can play in the porch and stay opposite the ball PORCH = halfway between lane line and three point line with back to baseline - 8 feet between spots - Two post positions (one on each side) - Straddle the first marker above the block = primetime; can make baseline moves and moves to the middle; also allows for cutting opportunities for feeder (to cut baseline = speed cut) On any SLOT TO SLOT pass = interchange sprints to corner, sprints to slot Any SLOT TO WING pass = shallow cut away Other players square the top by filling to the ball If you have a capable post player, they follow the ball - first marker to first marker Don't cut too deep on closed post side. Cut through the "logo" "LEAVE A SPOT, FILL A SPOT"

Ball & Player Movement Rules Check post then change it slot to wing pass = shallow cut away On the slot-to-slot pass = interchange Porch Player Rules The perimeter player rules for player movement are the same with the porch concept for the post EXCEPT after the pass from the slot to wing the cutter can make a deeper basket cut before filling away because the open block on the ball side. Reverse and interchange Slot to slot pass = interchange A return pass on the basket cut is an option now as well. slot to wing pass = cut and fill away. Leave a spot, fill a spot

Ball & Player Movement Rules slot to wing = cut and fill away leave a spot, fill a spot slot to slot pass = interchange banana cuts behind the backboard to get opposite the ball Pos Description G, F Perimeter passes - Any slot-to-slot pass = interchange G, F Perimeter passes - Any slot-to-wing pass = shallow cut away P If posted, follow the ball on the first marker P If in porch, stay opposite the ball

Ballscreen Scenarios Ball Screens ROLL Always want ball screens off of movement first Reverse and interchage passes to wing (by rule they shallow cut away through the logo Other players fill towards the ball ROLL Roll Roll Pass to wing and shallow cut away A "roll" is a wing ball screen where the screener rolls to the basket Villanova sets ball screens for the guard to score! They are think drive and finish then pass. the player in the near slot ( as shown) gets to the weakside of the midline weakside players (& as shown) exchange

Ballscreen Scenarios DUECE DUECE A duece can arise at anytime when the post sets the inside high slot ball screen Always want ball screens off of movement first changes it to who reverses By rule, on the slot to slot pass there is an interchange passes to wing (by rule they shallow cut away through the logo Other players fill towards the ball DUECE Duece On 's catch, sprints into the inside slot ball screen (arrive alone). drives it looking to score Villanova sets ball screens for the guard to score! They are think drive and finish then pass. The players away from the ball screen automatically exchange when the see a duece. Wing on the ball screen side rises. "Duece" = two perimeter players on the side below the ball screen

Ballscreen Scenarios ACE ACE Always want ball screens off of movement first Reverse and interchage passes to wing (by rule they shallow cut away through the logo Post is following the ball Other players fill towards the ball Leave a spot fill a spot ACE ACE ACE Pass to wing and shallow cut away ACE = one guard "below" the ballscreen; single guard as the cutter is going away As is leaving we "get an ace" with ball screening on the wing On an ACE the screener pops, slot player ( as shown) gets to the weakside of the midline, weakside players exchange

Ballscreen Scenarios FLAT FLAT x In transition Anytime the defense extends their pickup point this is an automatic flat ball screen. If the defense want to extend and play in a greater space, take it! When there is a flat ball screen, th top player on the weakside gets at or below FTLE and then interchanges with the player below him If the ball gets in the paint, drive and space rules take over

Drive & Space Drive & Space - Baseline Drive & Space - Slot Drive Drift Fill Behind Fill between slots Fill Behind Drive & Space - Baseline Post "logo cuts" Drive & Space - Slot Gap Fill corners Post gets to baseline opposite the ball Drive & Space - Middle Drive & Space Fill Behind Fill between slots Fill between slots Drive & Space - Middle If you cannot get to the rim, jumpstop to score Drive & Space - Slot-Wing Gap Fill the corners, post gets opposite the ball on the baseline Post gets opposite the ball on the baseline

Drive & Space Drive & Space Drive & Space Fill between slots SECOND CUT Drive & Space - Slot-Wing Gap (open block) Fill the corners and fill between the slots Post stays on baseline opposite the ball The concept of the SECOND CUT is vital to this offense! Anytime a driving player picks up their dribble in the lane you much SECOND CUT. The seconds cuts are random and unpredictable by design. Your "drive & space" cuts are your first cuts. After the dribble is picked up make a SECOND CUT. Get away from the ball and one another!

Post & Rip Post & Rip Post & Rip On the post entry turn baseline to score, never go baseline to pass Post & Rip Ballside wing ( as shown) sets flare for player in slot ( as shown) Weakside players exchange. If post does have a quick kick, SECOND CUT
