National Corvette Museum News CRUZIN Page 3 TWO NEW COLORS INTRODUCED FOR 2019 CORVETTE On Friday, April 27 as part of the Michelin NCM Bash, General Motors held their annual event seminar providing an update on Corvette. With the 2019 model year starting earlier than usual, most of the details had already been released. But the team at Chevrolet saved one fun piece of news for the event attendees. Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter and Corvette Product Marketing Manager Harlan Charles were joined on stage by GM Bowling Green Assembly Body and Paint Manager Chuck Valentini who brought two surprise show and tell items to accompany the announcement of two new colors. Displayed were rear quarter panels featuring the new blue exterior color, Elkhart Lake Blue, and the new Shadow Gray. Elkhart Lake replaces Admiral Blue while Shadow replaces Watkins Glen Gray. Watkins Glen Gray, as of April 3, 2018, was the third most popular color for 2019 Corvettes with 15%. Admiral Blue was the 7th with 5 % of the 7070 produced. Timing for the color swaps is as follows: GJ1 Shadow Gray (replacing G7Q Watkins Glen Gray) May 17: G7Q Watkins Glen Gray Last Day to Order June 18: Last Day of Production June 28: GJ1 Shadow Gray Available to Order August 6: First Day of Production There are no more allocations of Watkins Glen Gray for ZR1 GS7 Elkhart Lake Blue (replacing GTR Admiral Blue) June 28: GTR Admiral Blue Last Day to Order August 13: Last Day of Production August 30: GS7 Elkhart Lake Blue Available to Order October 1: First Day of Production In an interview with WBKO Television, Chuck shared some information on the new paint shop, explaining how it enables the Plant to create colors like the new hues. The new paint shop we just installed certainly is a key enabler to it. We have a lot better technology and are able to control the spray a lot better than what we used to do in the past. When the Corvette was introduced in 1953, Campbell-Ewald produced mostly mundane ads for Chevrolet s new sports car. This changed when Corvette started building more following by participating, and winning, road races, Arthur B. Barney Clark of Campbell-Ewald used a photo of a race prepared, and rather grimy looking 1956 Corvette shown in the race pit area of the 1956 12- Hours of Sebring race. Using the title The Real McCoy, it was a hit ad campaign. Other Corvette ad campaigns, such as the 1957 Fuel Injected optioned Corvettes, were also well received. For the overall Chevrolet program, Campbell-Ewald was also the originator of the very successful Baseball and Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Chevrolet ad campaign in the mid-1970s.
Member Spotlight ~ Denise & Ray Aubrey CRUZIN Page 19 Denise and Ray Aubrey have been RCCC members for three years. Ray was born in Paola, Kansas and Denise was born in Newark, NJ. The Aubrey s current Corvette is a 2008 Crystal Red convertible (HTSCRLT = Hot Scarlet). Their first Corvette was a 2003 Torch Red coupe, which they purchased in 2015. Denise and Ray have three grown children, Jennifer (35), Patrick (31) and Nathan (27). The Aubrey s first Corvette, a 2003 coupe When asked how they got into Corvettes, Ray replied, I went to a dealership to look at a Dodge Challenger and spotted an 03 Corvette on the sales lot. I talked with the sales guy and took the Vette out for a test drive. Returning to the dealership, I took it home the same day. When I got to the house, I asked my wife to come out and see what I had brought home with me. She was gracious enough to ask me, What are you getting for yourself? Needless to say, she let me keep her and we have been active Vette owners ever since. I joined the Cleveland Corvette Club the same year I came to the River City Corvette Club. My time here at RCCC has been great with many activities and such that we enjoy. I have discontinued my membership with the Cleveland club. My trips include Bloomington Gold, the NCM Corvette Bash, Corvette Expo, Vettes for Vets, Corvettes at Carlisle, Corvette FunFest and many local events. My granddaughter (Abigail) has already laid claim to the Vette, once I get too old to drive anymore! The River City Corvette Club is the second Corvette club for Ray and Denise. Ray is the current National Corvette Museum Ambassador for the RCCC. Denise and Ray s favorite Corvette activity is taking her out on a sunny day with the top down or taking her out anytime? The Aubrey s current ride, a 2008 convertible
