Current Rookey Program Registration and Fees 3 tier fee system: Hockey Qld fee Townsville Hockey Fee Club Fee Must register with Hockey Qld and club. Confusing for new parents Program Club based and run Currently seen as U7 s and U9 s Players attend 1 hour training on a weekday Game day Saturday Different programs and skills delivered by each club Competing with other sports that run a consistent and simple modified junior program
Why Change? Declining participation rates Competition from other sports 65% of our Rookey players are not from existing hockey families: Most are sport samplers and make their decision on their full time sport by the age of 9-10. These parents generally do not wish to engage in club land and are just looking for the delivery of a good service for their child.. If they can t find it at hockey they will move to the next sport. Consistency of product delivered every player counts and has the same experience Parents of players new to our sport are looking for a time efficient option (i.e. 1 hour commitment once a week)
New Program Age generally 8-9 years Age generally under 7 s Progression of skill development Development of fundamental Identified players will play skills Representative Hockey for Townsville at 5 aside game play Mackay Festival 1/8 field size 7 aside game play ¼ field size Players are transitioned to the next level as skill develops during the program

What Happens to U11 s? U11 s to be a 9 aside competition (8 players + 1 GK) on a ¾ field as discussed at the Junior Hockey Forum in December. As per projected numbers below there are only 2 teams that are at risk under this 9 aside competition and we would look at the skill level of the 2009 born players if no new sign ons are achieved Female Male U11 Rookey 9 U11 Rookey 9 Brothers Hockey Club (Townsville) 2007 6 2009 9 4 4 2008 4 2010 7 3 3 Commercials Hockey Club 2007 6 2009 4 6 5 2008 6 2010 2 8 3 Parks Hockey Club 2007 3 2009 3 4 3 2008 2 2010 4 6 2 Wests Hockey Club 2007 7 2009 3 5 7 2008 6 2010 4 5 1 TOTAL PLAYERS 40 36 41 28
