Memberships have been mailed out to all 2013 members. I hope everyone is enjoying the New Year! The Junior Foundation is looking forward to the upcoming 2014 Season. I am sure most of you are tired of this Polar Vortex thing hanging around Wisconsin. I can assure you that the weather will turn and summer is around the corner. Thank you to all participants of our junior tournaments, clinics and camps. We could not have had these great venues to play at without the support of PGA Professionals, golf course owners, superintendents and facility managers who support junior golf. We will be adding a few new events for the 2014 season. The Sherri Steinhauer girls only event will be a 36-hole event at Blackhawk CC. We are adding an additional Players Tour 36-hole event to have four 36-hole events on the schedule. College players ages 21 and under can participate in these events. You will also see some fall junior tour events. These will be played on weekends at courses around Milwaukee open to everyone. The dates can courses are on the next page. The junior membership has some new changes this year. Memberships will include a Junior Tour Member Hat ($15 value), personalized bag tag, Culver s coupon ($4 value) & membership card. We will continue to run an Adult/Junior event in 2014. This event will allow juniors and an adult/parent to play together in a fun format. It will be an afternoon shotgun with lunch before the event. More details will be available online. Junior Tour Players of the Year - 2013 The 2013 WPGA Junior Foundation Player of the Year Awards Girls Player of the Year: Rebecca Klongland The WPGA Junior Foundation is pleased to announce Rebecca Klongland as the Junior Girls Player of the Year for 2013. This is her second Player of the Year award, she also won in 2011. She won the Lake Arrowhead Invite, Lawsonia Players Tour and finished 2 nd at WPGA Jr Champ. She went on to have 6 top 5 finishes. Rebecca is from Stoughton will be playing for the UW Badgers this fall. Boys Player of the Year: Charlie Maleki The WPGA Junior Foundation is pleased to announce Charlie Maleki as the Junior Boys Player of the Year for 2013. Charlie is an 17 year-old from Mequon. Charlie started to turn up his game in July as he went onto win the Lake Arrowhead Invite and finished 2 nd at the WSGA State Junior. His 7th place finish at The Bog Players Tour event gave him an edge over Trevor Thomas. Charlie won a close player points race with last years POY Trevor Thomas by 135 points. Future Tour Players of the Year 2013 Future Tour Boys Player of the Year: Zak Kulka The WPGA Junior Foundation is pleased to announce Zak Kulka as the Future Tour Boys Player of the Year for 2013. He won four Future tour events in 2013 and had three finishes in second place. Zak won the season points total by an outstanding 231 points. Jacob Smith finished in second place. Kulka is a Beaver Dam native and also plays on the Junior Tour. Future Tour Girls Player of the Year: Ashley Kulka The WPGA Junior Foundation is pleased to announce Ashley Kulka as the Future Tour Girls Player of the Year for 2013. Ashley also won this award last year. Ashley played in all ten Future Tour events and finished with six wins just like she did in 2012. She even surpassed her point total of 432 last year with a staggering 472 points this year. Ashley is 14 and lives in Beaver Dam. Her brother is also the Boys Future Tour Player of the Year.
Aces Wild in Junior Events The Junior Foundation had a record 8 hole in 2012. We had another 7 hole in ones in 2013. Congratulations, Juniors!! We hope to see more Aces in 2014! The first day of four-ball match play concluded with Team Wisconsin leading 7-5. Day 2 of the Cup Matches was another great day for Team Wisconsin. They won 14 of 24 singles matches to win the cup with a score of 21-15. Last years tie is long forgotten as the Cup returns to Wisconsin. Team WI leads the overall series at 10-5-1. Lets start another win streak in 2014! We would like to thank New Richmond GC for hosting this years event. The Junior Foundation would also like to thank the sales reps that donated tee gifts to each player. Thanks to Ted Robbins, Tom Cranwell, Michael Chase, Matt Flaten and Rob Hurab. The team consists of the top 12 boys and 12 girls in our great state of Wisconsin. 2013 participants included Hallie Kent, Jessica Reinecke, Lexi Greytak, Abby Chase, Rachel Morris, Grace Dunn, Anika Hitt, Gabby Curtis, Sienna Chapman, Rebecca Klongland, Emily Joers, Brooke Ferrell, Ricky Kuiper, Michael Immekus, James Christian, Kaylor Steger, Phillip Johnson, Josh Smith, Eddie Wajda III, Johnny Decker, Henry Klongland, Trevor Thomas, Ben Skogen and Peter Webb. The team captain is Junior Tour Director. Wisconsin will host the 2014 Cup Matches on June 29-30. The host course will be Blackwolf Run Meadow Valley & Whistling Straits Irish Course. The 2014 team will be announced in February with letters sent out to those who qualify for the team.
2014 Scholarship Application coming soon Attention Parents/Juniors The 2014 Scholarship application will be on the website soon. Look for it under the Membership tab then Scholarships. Last year we awarded fifteen individuals scholarships totaling $10,000. Please submit you application before the May 10 deadline. We have broken down the scholarship application into two categories. One is for High School Seniors and the other is for current College Students. Make sure to apply for the appropriate scholarship. More scholarship applications online for girls through the LPGA. Alumni teaming up with Golf Coaches of WI for event We are asking high school golf coaches to reach out to alumni and bring a team to help raise money for the scholarship programs for the GCAW and WPGA Jr. Foundation. This fun event is for coaches to bring a team of 3 alumni players and or parents. Teams must include one coach. Where & When: Trappers Turn GC on August 3, 2014. 1 p.m. shotgun start. Format: 4 person scramble. 18-hole event with some fun rules during play. Entry Fee: $100 per player if paid by June 25 ($400 per team) If paid after June 25 - $120 per player ($480 per team) Includes green fees, carts, range balls, awards and food after play.
