North Atlanta Volleyball Club Frequently Asked Questions We know there are a number of volleyball clubs available and that choosing the right club is a big decision for players and families. NAVC is committed to providing exceptional training, in a positive, healthy and competitive environment. Our ultimate goal is to have our players finish the season having developed as a person, volleyball player, and athlete. Life lessons and character building opportunities are a focus. We work with student- athletes to be successful through strong work ethic, teamwork, and pursuing excellence in all facets of their lives. On the court, NAVC focuses on individual skill development, as well as team success. We feel strongly that solid, technical training is imperative for athletes at all levels and will ultimately lead each player to reach their full potential. While team success is a focus at NAVC we also know that the skills and knowledge each individual acquires during the club season will stay with them long after the club season concludes. NAVC offers club teams for our club volleyball season age levels 10-18 girls NAVC West o Practice on Sunday s Life U, Marietta o Practice on week nights LakePoint Champions Center, Emerson NAVC East o Practice on Sunday s Life U, Marietta o Practice on week nights at facilities (schools/church) Sandy Springs Dunwoody area.

Tryouts I. How can I determine my child s age group for tryouts? A. Click here http://hai3.srva.org/pbl/3h_utlagejr.c.php (Make sure you have the 2017-2018 Season in the Season drop down box. II. What will tryouts be like for my child? This season players will attend two tryout sessions. The first day of tryouts provides our evaluation staff an opportunity to evaluate the athletes volleyball fundamentals, physical attributes and other intangibles. The second day of tryouts will have players evaluated in a variety of physical, skill and team play aspects. We also consider intangibles during the tryouts process, including leadership qualities, how they interact with players and coaches, etc. We value training at NAVC, so a player s ability to take and apply instruction is considered in the tryout evaluation. Our 12 & U will be evaluated at one tryout session. We do not have cuts for our 12 & U program (exception would be lack of coaches or facilities which this has never happened in our 26 year history). The players will be evaluated and placed on appropriate team. III. Do you have anything prior to tryouts that players can attend? Yes! Ages 5-12 can attend our Youth Development Clinics August-September NAVC hosts multiple Open Gyms Sessions Information and Registration for our Open Gyms can be found at www.northatlantavolleyball.com click on Camps/Clinics

IV. How much will it cost to tryout at NAVC? $50 pre-registration, walk up is $65 Ages 13-18 $25 pre-registration, walk up $40 Ages 12 & U V. When will my child be placed on a team? Our coaching staff knows how nerve- wracking the tryout and team selection process can be, our goal at NAVC will be to announce the teams and Alternate list for each age group 30 minutes after the second day of tryouts. There may be rare situations when we tell you that we are still placing team members and need more time to finalize your placement. It is our hope to have 100% of our teams confirmed within 24 hours after the conclusion of tryouts and receiving commitments from the players. VI. Will my daughter make a team if she participates in tryouts? At NAVC our goal is to place all athletes that tryout on a team, however based on the number of players at tryouts and the number of teams NAVC will offer in that age group there may be some athletes that are not offered a position on a team. If you are not offered a position you will be placed on an Alternate list. 12& U teams: We do not cut players on our 12&U teams. We will do everything possible to place all girls and boys trying out for 12&U teams on a team. We will notify you as soon as we know that we may not be able to place your daughter on a club team, so you can explore alternative options.

Schedules I. How often will my team practice? (Tentative practice schedules posted week after Labor Day) This season we be working with a new practice schedule. Our practices will begin week of November 13 th. During the November 26th th -December practice weeks our 13 and older teams will practice three times per week, approximately 7 ½ hours of practice. Two of these practices Sunday and one week night will be fundamental/skills/position practices. One of the practices during the week will be team practice. January-April practices will only be held two times per week Sunday at Life U for NAVC East and one week night. Our NAVC West will have their practices on T & TH nights at Lakepoint. Teams will still receive 6 hours of practice time but with NAVC East the situation with traffic in the Atlanta area (285, 400, 85 and 75) we feel it is optimal for families to only have to fight the traffic one night per week for NAVC East teams. There may be additional practices for our 1 s and 2 s teams depending on Coaches feedback, tournament schedule and availability of facilities, these additional practices may be on a Saturday. There is also another aspect of why we are going to a two time per week practice schedule January-April, to limit injury and the wear and tear on the players body. Understand that in Club Volleyball most teams will have a 9-10 weekend tournament schedule with the teams playing 10-20 sets per weekend depending on three, two or one day tournaments. The two practices per week allows the player to have time to rest and mend the body and mind from the grueling schedule of tournaments and practices. Where do teams practice: NAVC East will practice at the following facilities, Kingswood United Methodist 5015 Tilly Mill Rd Dunwoody GA 30338 Map link Davis Academy (Lower School) 8105 Roberts Drive Atlanta GA 30350 Map link Davis Academy (Middle School) 7901 Roberts Drive Atlanta GA 30350 Map link Entry to Gym is in back of school near soccer field Brandon Hall School 1701 Brandon Hall Drive Atlanta GA 30350 Map link Saint James UMC 4400 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd NE Atlanta GA 30342 Map link

How many tournaments will my team participate in throughout the year? (Tentative tournament schedules posted on website week after Labor Day) Depending on the age and level of team, the number of events will vary from 6-10 tournaments per club season. These tournaments will vary between one, two or three day formats, ranging from local to moderate travel. Please refer to the Tentative Tournament Schedule for teams on our website. III. What is NAVC policy on attending a National Championship? As a club, we are committing to send the top team in our 13s 17s age groups to AAU Nationals this season. If a player on one of those teams is unable to participate, a player from another team will be added to their roster for the event. If a team qualifies for USAV GJNC a decision by the coaches and NAVC Staff will decide on accepting the invitation, USAV Nationals are held in June for ages 12-18 and in April for age 18. Other NAVC teams will have the opportunity to attend AAU Nationals, a minimum of 10 players must commit to attending.

IV. VI. VII. What events do you participate in? (Tentative tournament schedules posted on website week after Labor Day) Tournament schedules for our club teams include JVA, USAV, AAU events. There are many competitive events in the Southeast sanctioned by each of these organizations. By choosing individual tournaments that are best for our teams, instead of from a particular organization, we are able to provide a high- level and well- rounded experience for all of our teams. V. How long is your club season? The length of a team s season will vary depending the age and level. Our 1 s teams will conclude in June after AAU s or USAV Nationals. Our other teams will typically conclude mid to late April with SRVA Regional Championships. However each team will have the opportunity to continue through June if the team votes on attending AAU Nationals in Orlando in June or they receive a bid to USAV s held in June. If I have multiple athletes participating in club, will they practice on the same night? While we understand the desire to have siblings practice on the same night and same location or have carpooling options with friends NAVC does not create teams nor our schedules based on carpool, friend or sibling request. May my daughter play club if they also participate in other school activities or sports? Yes, athletes may participate in other activities outside of club volleyball. However NAVC expects if there is a conflict with NAVC and other sport that NAVC will receive your full commitment to NAVC team your daughter is placed on. It is important to communicate any potential conflicts ahead of time with your coach and make every effort to minimize conflicts.

Costs (Player Fees will be posted on website week after Labor Day) I. How much does it cost to play club volleyball at NAVC? II. Club dues will range depending on team placement and level. A more detailed breakdown can be found on our website What payment plans are available for my athlete? Option 1: Early Pay 3% Discount (payment in full on Commitment Night) Option 2: NAVC Payment Plan through payments are due 15th of each month usually Dec-March, refer to the Player Fee Chart for Payment Schedule. III. What is included in club dues? IV. When are club fees due? The first payment is due on Commitment Day. Monthly payments are due the 15th of the month and considered late by the 20 th. V. How do we pay our fees? This season NAVC will utilize which allows parents to make a payment via echeck, debit or credit card (no cash is accepted). VI. Do you offer Financial Assistance We do offer Financial Assistance, but the assistance is minimal due to the number of players at NAVC. However we do offer opportunities for you to earn money that will offset the Player Fee. If you require Financial Assistance you will need to complete our Financial Assistance Form. We will review and provide you opportunities to offset a portion of the Player Fee through working our tournaments. Parents and players may work during NAVC hosted events.

VII. Are discounts available if I have more than one child participating at NAVC? NAVC Absolutely! We offer 10% off club dues of the less- expensive player for families with two children participating. Those with more than two children playing club volleyball with us, will receive 10% off club dues for all children, except the most- expensive player. I. What makes training at NAVC so special? At NAVC, we believe there are four components that are conducive to a successful training environment: great coaching, positional training, consistent training at all age levels, efficient team play. At NAVC we have implemented a training program utilized by the most successful clubs, a systematic approach of training that has proven results. NAVC utilizes the Linear Model for our practices which will provides the greatest amount of individual development since the entire focus of training is geared towards the conclusion of the season for both the player and the team. This Linear training provides a real Long Term Development model where progressive training cycles can be implemented without fear of having change in mid-cycle or mid-season. Our coaches are given the resources to further their education in the evolving sport of volleyball, in order to best serve your athlete. Positional training, an often- neglected aspect of training, is extremely beneficial to players over an extended period of time and is included for athletes throughout the season. Consistency with terminology, defense systems, offense systems etc is taught from age 10-18. Finally, effective and efficient team play is a must in order to grow and succeed as a team in match play. Is Playing time Guaranteed? I. Play time is not guaranteed at any age or level at NAVC II. III. WE TRAVEL TO TOURNAMENTS TO COMPETE: everything else is secondary The team s Head Coach is responsible for the composition of the team and determining playing time.

IV. Equal Practice Time is what is being paid for in the fees. Each athlete will receive equal training time and repetitions in practice sessions, but we cannot and will not guarantee playing time to anyone. It is in the best interest of the team that we compete for championships and this involves some players not playing in some matches. The Head Coaches will make their decisions based on a player's attendance at practices, the importance of an event, the player s attitude, work ethic, and proficiency at required skills, and most importantly the team's needs. As parents, please understand that our coaches do their best do get everyone playing time, but their primary focus at tournaments is the teams success. V. NO PARENT WILL APPROACH A NAVC COACH, CLUB DIRECTOR OR NAVC LEADERSHIP TO ABOUT PLAYING TIME DURING THE TOURNAMENT WEEKEND! It is very disruptive to the team if a parent confronts a coach in this setting. Consequently, if a coach is confronted by a parent during a tournament, that parent s child must sit out the following match. In short, please save these discussions until after the tournament. What college recruiting resources are available to my athlete? We have a variety of services available to meet your recruiting needs. Steve Wilcosky is our Recruiting Coordinator. Coach Wilcosky has 14 years of experience as a college coach and is the current Head Coach at Life University. Players on our 15-1, 16-1, 17-1 and 18-1 will have an account with SportsRecruits, other players will have the option to register for SportsRecruits.
