PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Happy Spring, Glenview Members, It s hard to believe that we only have 2 more regular Friday night dances before our Dinner Dance on May 18. Our Dinner Dance Committee is busy working on plans and organizing our Raffle and Silent Auction. You will read more about that and find out how you can help later in this newsletter. But before our dinner dance there is one more important event for Glenview Squares. On Saturday, April 7, at 9:30am, at the Glenview Library, 1930 Glenview Road, we will have our yearly General meeting with elections for our Board for next year. This is an important meeting as several of the people presently on the board are stepping down or changing offices starting in June. The slate of candidates for next year is: President: James and Janice Cha Vice-President: Carol and Phil Moulden Treasurer: Vicki Jennings Recording Secretary: Judy Zaleske Co-Responding Secretary: Linda Warren Additional nominations can be taken from the floor that day. We hope you will come to this meeting to support our candidates, who devote time and effort to Glenview Squares, and to find out what's been happening behind the scenes. Then on May 18 we can celebrate a year of successful lessons and a growing, thriving square dance club. Carolyn & Bob Lopez President Glenview Squares 2

GVS DINNER DANCE MAY 18 Tickets for our May 18 Dinner Dance will be available at our regular Friday dances, all Tuesday night lessons and any other dances or events that there are Glenview members. You can purchase tickets from Joy Nachtrab, Fred Bruegmann and Carloyn Lopez. 3

GVS DINNER DANCE: SILENT AUCTION Our first Glenview Squares Silent Auction! We have secured several creative and practical donations for you to bid on. Items currently available include: A Caller for your very own Intro/Beginners Square Dance Party, A Fly- by Chicago Plane Excursion, A Summer Evening Sail for Two out of the Wilmette Harbor, A Massage Session, A Wine of the Month Wooden Crate (12 bottles!), A Taste of Italy Basket, and gift cards to Oberweis and Gail's Carriage Grove. The auction committee is in the process of seeking out more donations, but you can help! Do you know anyone that would donate a family photography session, an hour of in-home computer technical support, a handyman? When you dine out or visit the hair salon please ask for donations. We have included a Donation Request Form that you may leave with any business. With your help we can make this year s dinner dance Raffle and Auction so successful that all funds raised over our expenses will go to our scholarship fund to help foster square dancing in our community Be sure to let Kathy Tucker (kathy_tckr@yahoo.com) or Myrnice Ravitch (myrnicer@gmail.com) know what you will donate so we can put it in the program book. Myrnice will collect your donations at lessons and our dances. Mark your calendar, locate your checkbook and get excited! We are looking forward to enjoying this new event with you! 4

GVS DINNER DANCE : IN SEARCH Of Plenty of Pasta but Wanting Wine! Thanks so much to all who contributed to our Taste of Italy basket. It over flows with great Italian fare so we don t need anything else. If you haven t participated and would like to be a part of the action, we could still use a few bottles of wine to fill our Wine of The Month crate. Just seek out your favorite or something you might like to try. You can bring it to lessons or our next dance April 20. Myrnice or Kathy will happily take your donation and I m sure they won t taste test it but will get it into the crate! A Bench The Dinner Dance Committee is looking for a small (about 39 in.), light weight love seat/bench for our Garden Photo Booth. If you have something similar to the above pictures and are willing to share it with us for a night just let me know. Thanks, Joy joylmn@yahoo.com or text 847-262- 0000. 5

COMMUNITY: BENIFIT On Thursday, April 5, from 6:30 pm 9 pm, join us at The Book Market in Glenview for a special Benefit Dance for Community Animal Rescue Effort. Here are five reasons to attend this dance: 1. We ll have a national caller Ed Foote calling the shots. Ed, who lives in Pennsylvania, spends most of his mic time on the East and West coasts, so this will be a rare chance to dance to someone new. Dance levels will be Club 50 and Plus. 2. We ll be dancing for a Good Cause. C.A.R.E. is in the process of renovating a building in that will serve as Adoption & Shelter Center. All the money raised at the dance will go to help get that building open for business. 3. Our fabulous hosts at The Book Market have offered a 20% discount on purchases that night. 4. Glenview Squares will not repeat, NOT be dancing on Friday, so by dancing on Thursday, April 5, you ll get your week s dance time in. 5. The cutest dog in the world will be on hand to give out kisses. (A little dog, not the Big Dawg you may have seen before!) Why C.A.R.E.? Janice and James have both volunteered for this animal rescue organization for more than 15 years each. In fact, C.A.R.E. is where the two first met. When Janice and James aren t volunteering with square dance, they are working on behalf of homeless animals. Dosado, little doggie! 8

COMMUNITY: BENIFIT 9

GLENVIEW SQUARES T- SHIRT Our club color is green, our club motto is fun, and our club garb is... coming soon in the form of a T-shirt! The shirts will be used when we do outreach events, from dances to tabling at fairs, even angeling at lessons! The shirts would also be ideal to wear at State and National Square Dance Conventions, or even for stealing and retrieving. The T-shirt s details are being worked out the color will be either green, black or possibly gray. The logo will be our club s word square, placed on the back of the shirt with the words Glenview Squares on a sleeve. Shirts will come in two styles, male or female. Cost is TBD that s going to depend on how many we order. If you want to have input on the T Shirt color and design, please contact Janice ASAP to join the GVS T shirt Committee 10

TEST DANCERS APPRECIATION A heartfelt THANK YOU to all the Glenview Squares members who have stepped up to help our newest callers practice and learn during the Chicago Caller School workshops. Without you, our Test Dancers, the caller-trainees might have to resort to moving around dance chess pieces or dancing themselves while trying to learn. Thanks to your able assistance, caller-trainees can gain instant feedback as they practice the intricacies of calling. You really, really rock!! If you are interested in serving as a test dancer at an upcoming Caller Workshop, which take place every few months at The Book Market in Glenview, email Janice and ask her to add your name to her Test Dancer list.
