GOD-GIVEN TALENT Our High School is filled with incredibly talented students. One of those students is a 10th grader, Joshua Guy. Joshua has been painting from the time he could hold a paint brush in his hand. He has displayed his artwork at the San Diego Fair where his painting won 1st place and Best of Show. Being the youngest member of a local watercolor society with over 700 members, his very first painting was accepted into a juried show & featured on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter.. Joshua currently has 3 paintings displayed at the Escondido Municipal Expressions Gallery, November 9-29, and his artwork will then be displayed at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, December 1 - January 3, 2019. He has also entered 2 paintings into a juried show with artists invited from Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas & Utah. Congratulations Joshua! God has gifted you with an amazing talent! Bottom right picture: Joshua with a renowned artist from Scotland (with happy smiles) critiquing his painting at the show.
OFF TO ITALY WE GO! Twenty-two of our High School students and chaperones departed for Italy on the 8th of this month. This is the 3rd year that our students have immersed themselves in the world of language, art and culture. We have received word that the trip has been amazing so far. The students have been going non-stop and are experiencing the richness of the culture and seeing many ancient structures! CIAO! FROM ITALIA
MOTION COMMOTION LAB Wind-up toys never go out of style! Here s a perfect example of how a toy that was originally created in the 1880 s is being used in Mrs. Vogel s science class. The study of physics can be daunting, but not when the subject is taught from a hands-on approach. Our 8th grade students had an opportunity to be introduced to physics concepts like motion, forces, and reference points. Now here s where the wind-up toys came in, students used them and the addition of mini skateboards to demonstrate these principles. It s all about matter and energy and how they interact!
PUMPED UP ABOUT ROBOTICS! The MCS Elementary Robotics team is staging themselves for a strong scrimmage in February at LEGO- LAND. Every Thursday the two teams of five come together to work on their robots to complete Into the Orbit tasks. Students are programming, taking notes, learning algorithms and working collaboratively. They are not only learning valuable robotics skills, but also how important it is to have patience when working on their formulas and, more importantly, working with one another. Kudos to all the Robotics Team members, their parents for their support and Mr. Martinez and Mr. Gill for their tireless help in getting these kids pumped up about Robotics. The 1st-3rd grade Robotics program will begin in late January/early February. Be on the lookout for details to come! If you have any questions contact Mrs. Pritchett, C-108 or by email: tara.pritchett@maranathachristianschools.org.
