Mozambique Rough Hunts 2012 Our RoughHunts all take place on close to 1 million acres of community hunting land in the Chiridzi, Chifunde and Macanga districts of the Tete Province. These are the old hunting grounds of Walter Karamojo Bell and we offer a hunting experience as close to the early exploration days as possible. In the middle of this vast tract of Africa, NiassaLand Safaris LDA owns the Pembe Private hunting reserve of around 65,000 acres with a permanent tented camp where we conduct our traditional safaris from. However it is the surrounding land that takes our interest and becomes the focus of these RoughHunts unopened land that holds the big 4 as well as a healthy selection of other plainsgame species. What we provide Traditionally the central African countries do not allow the Chasse Libre (self Guided Hunt) and you have to be accompanied by a professional hunter at all times. So your PH along with a reliable mode of transport in the form of a Land Cruiser, a complement of trackers and other staff and some basic equipment to survive on will meet you at the airport and assist with gun clearance. Your PH will have your hunting license in hand as well as the permits for the species you intend to hunt. Following in the tradition of the early safaris, as outfitters we provide the very basics which includes but is not limited to: classic canvas tents and cots, basic camp equipment and eating and cooking utensils, a supply of dry goods such as grits, rice, beans, flour for bread, potatoes etc. as well as canned food. Fresh meat will come from what we are able to shoot. We also will provide a supply of bottled water. In addition we are loaded up with the essentials for a remote safari diesel, salt for the skins, emergency medical kits and satellite phone. That s about it very much like the first safaris of the early explorers where camp was totally mobile and set up where the game was plentiful. Gearing Up We believe a lot of the fun of this safari can be your pre planning and gearing up and thus we are here for guidance and advice. Your essentials will be your guns and ammunition, suitable hard wearing clothes and shoes, all personal essentials such as toiletries, bathing soap, medications etc. as well as any new hunting toys that may seem appropriate and fun. If you want any special drinks or food then you will have a chance to purchase this in Tete prior to your departure for the bush. These hunts require a certain amount of time, patience and adaptability on your part as they are based upon breaking open new roads and un-hunted country and are in essence unpredictable the very reason that makes them a true hunting adventure!
