I P S W I C H H O C K E Y A S S O C I A T I O N I N C. Issue 15 May 2013 Around the Fields at IHA Inside this issue: Update 1 Bits n Pieces 2 RCD Report 3 Sponsors 4 Goodlife 5 Thank you 6 Newsletter May 2013 People play sport for many reasons; these include fitness, friendships, competition, to learn new skills, to meet new people...the list is endless really. Every person has their own reason to take to the field and their own personal goals to achieve. Ipswich Hockey is extremely proud of the number of talented hockey players we have across all our age groups juniors, seniors and masters alike. We currently have many players training for their respective State Championships, increasing their fitness and improving their skills ready to do their best for Ipswich. We are equally proud of the passionate and enthusiastic coaches we have who donate their time for club and rep teams. We have a fantastic, dedicated team working hard on recruitment and the promotion of our sport and that means we have junior teams with a vast difference in skills levels, with beginners, intermediate and experienced players all on the field together. This can cause some uneven scores which may look disturbing when scores are all you look at. If you have had a chance to watch these matches, you would be proud of these players who never give up and continue running and passing even if the score against them is ever building. Encouragement and positive messages from their coaches, managers, parents and supporters of these less experienced players is ensuring these boys and girls continue to smile and laugh as they walk onto the field and look forward to their next training session to work on their skills. Neil, our RCD, is more than happy to work with coaches and teams to ensure all players are benefitting from their training sessions. THANKS By buying a car or getting one serviced at LLEWELLYN MOTORS you can earn a donation back to IHA. Come and collect a token from the Purple Shed that you exchange for an Official Llewellyn Local Legends Key ring when you pop in to Llewellyn's for your next service or car purchase. Llewellyn Motors have a donation target of $1,000,000.00 to give back to the community, lets make sure we get some of it!!! As our junior players grow and develop their skills, some will move into senior levels earlier than their years. Often these players have been playing since they were extremely young, and for them to continue to develop they need to play stronger, faster competitors. It is a constant juggle for clubs and teams to be able to provide the necessary balance with such a vast range of skill levels and we encourage the teamwork being shown on and off the field by teams and clubs. Our umpires are in the same situation. We have beginners, intermediate and experienced umpires who are paid for their time, but without enough umpires prepared to take the fields, we would struggle to provide such a successful competition. Like players, umpires need to build on their skills, be shown how to improve and be provided with encouragement and at the end of the game, they should be thanked. Ipswich Hockey is known throughout Queensland for having some of the best umpires at junior and senior level, and that is something that we should all be proud of. Ipswich Hockey is just the name on the letterhead - players and clubs make up the heart and soul of Ipswich Hockey, and therefore drive its direction. If you would like to be involved in the direction we are taking, or provide some feedback on what you have seen or haven t seen, please take the time to talk to your club officials or member of the IHA Executive. Be aware ideas and suggestions are discussed at the IHA monthly meetings, where each club is represented. We are always looking for ways to improve but that can only happen with input from you.

RCD REPORT MAY 2013 Well representative hockey is well under way, with the Open Championships being played over the almost long weekend of 26th, 27th & 28th April There was great hockey played, lots of lessons learnt for some of our younger players competing at the Senior Representative level for the first time and some fantastic achievements for players and umpires. Well done to all coaches, managers, players and friends and family who supported our teams. Our Under 13 & 15 squads have all started training with Coulter Shield and Southern Cross games coming up over the next couple of weeks. Its great to see so many of our players taking advantage of the opportunity to learn new skills and techniques under different coaches, play with different players and strive to make our representative teams. Under 11 s nominations will be opening soon but before this can happen we need to secure coaches, please contact me if you require more info. We would like to get this program up & running this month. Ipswich Primary school hockey has commenced and we would so love to have these children enjoy the game and come and join our weekend competition. Ipswich hockey has also seen some TAS Secondary school games on Saturday mornings prior to Hook in 2 Hockey. Hook in2 Hockey & Rookey 7 s & 9s is becoming more interesting for all...new skills being learnt each week..everyone is having a good time whether it s the players or the coaches and that is what this is all about - Fun whilst learning!
