CELEBRATING 16 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Kalamazoo, MI - American Singles Golf Association May 2009 President s Message Happy May to everyone. GOLF SEASON IS HERE YEA!! I hope some of you have been out on the course so far. I am looking forward to the kickoff of Nine and Dine on May 1st. We have two outings scheduled in May. Carol is our host on May 9th and Judy is our host on May 17th. Contact them ASAP to confirm playing in these chapter outings. Many kudos go out to chef Mike Diljak for preparing the gourmet dinner and to Judy Claflin for hosting the event on Saturday April 18th. Everyone in attendance had a great time and a very full belly. Attention to everyone who is going on the trip up north in September. A $100 deposit by each person is due by June 1st. Keep in mind that we do not have an outing scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend and anyone who would like to organize some golf and dinner please contact the Golf chair or myself. I hope everyone can get out and enjoy some golf as weather permits. ~Keith Milhiem Tip from the President- To help make more short putts 3-4 ft in length. On the practice green place a few balls 3 to 4 ft from the hole, place the putter behind the ball as to make a stroke and push the ball into the hole without making a backstroke. This practice will help with the follow through and you will help to not leave putts short and build confidence. First tee off time is 5:30. Northern Michigan Golf Trip- Keith Millhiem- is organizing this trip. Lakewood Shores is the course at Oscoda Michigan. Dates Sept 20 th 23 rd. 2009. New Business- A discussion was held, that for our Northern Michigan Golf Outing for 2010, that we send a deposit to Crystal Mountain of $250.00 to secure our reservation for next year. A Good Time At The Dome Several of us met at the Dome, in Schoolcraft, and worked on improving our golf skills for the 2009 season, either by playing golf on the Simulator, or hitting balls on the driving range. After a couple of hours we all met at Schaunzers for dinner. Waiting for Spring, and Golf! Many wintery Sundays found Carol Leigh and Marcia Kolinske donning their snowshoes and spending the afternoon traversing through the beautiful terrain of Woodbridge Hills this past winter. They were able to enjoy the natural beauty of the area, and also got some first hand looks at the wild life, which reside there. Of course, after their afternoons of fitness exercise, they often found it necessary to stop in the Black Swan Inn for a welldeserved repast! ~Pat Golf Chair Report I hope everyone is getting out their cherished clubs and shaking off the snow. CELEBRATING 16 YEARS OF SINGLESGOLF IN AMERICA AMERICAN SINGLES GOLF ASSOCIATION MAY, 2009 Event Dates: May 22-25, 2009 A Great Weekend Planned at Homestead Resort And We re Looking for a Few Good Men We cannot complain, we re living the lives of professional golfers, touring beautiful cities and playing courses only the rich and famous could afford to play then we wake up...oh, we re back to dreaming again Homestead Resort... is this a dream or a reality? It s totally up to you. You can hang with your friends this Memorial Day Weekend or you can make new ones at one of our nation s premier resorts. Countless U.S. Presidents have visited this historic venue in the rolling hills of Virginia and countless ASGA Chapter Presidents have teed-off there as well. Why Homestead? It s convenient to our membership base to the extent that probably 50% of our membership can drive there but most importantly, we feel home there. It s just our kind of place. Are you man enough to attend? It seems we ve got ourselves into a bit of a predicament. We know women love these spa resorts but when do we SCREAM out loud and tell the MEN to sign-up as well? Women tend to register in pairs and the men register alone. But we re definitely seeing a shortage of men for this event. So men, we ask the question again: Are you man enough to attend? If you joined this organization to play golf, okay, we ve taken care of that. If it was to meet women and you haven t done it yet, what are you waiting for? We don t roll out the red carpet, that s why we re at the Homestead. You ve got to take it upon yourself and stop second guessing yourself in front of life s mirror. Pick-up the phone, give us a call. Register now before another woman registers! We can t tell the women they can t register any longer simply because they re a woman (we like staying out of jail!).
